Andrew D.

Andy has two Master’s degrees in History from the University of Glasgow and the University of Alabama. Most recently he was the Rothermere American Scholar at the University of Oxford’s Rothermere American Institute, with a research focus on the development of Scottish American identity in the long nineteenth century.

Andy has taught both American History and World History at the graduate level. He leans heavily into the Scottish university tradition, which employs a dialectical, discussion-led approach that encourages students to engage critically with historical interpretations, develop evidence-based arguments, and refine their thinking and writing through vigorous debate and scholarly dialogue.
