One-on-one tutoring in-home and online
We understand that every student learns differently, which is why we work closely with your child to provide them with a personalized educational experience. We offer one-on-one tutoring in-home so that your child can learn in an atmosphere that is comfortable and familiar.
Our in-home services are flexible; we work around your schedule — and your child’s schedule — to ensure you can maintain your daily routine without disruption. We prefer to act more like a “smart friend” for your child who can explain things in a familiar setting, in a way that is easier for them to retain and understand.
Semi-private tutoring
We offer semi-private tutoring services for children who learn best when they have other students to learn from
and work with.
Our semi-private tutoring allows us to provide personalized education, while also providing your child with the support of another student who’s at a similar learning stage.
Group tutoring
We offer group tutoring services for groups of 3-6 students to suit those who thrive in a collaborative setting rather than a one-on-one environment.
Everyone learns differently — while some learn well in a one-on-one setting, others thrive in a group setting where they can learn from fellow students. Identify the tutoring program that best suits your child’s needs.
All subjects
Every child experiences subject material differently based on their personal strengths and interests. We offer tutoring for a wide variety of subjects to help fill any gaps in knowledge or understanding.
The tutoring subjects we offer are:
- Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Computer Science)
- Social Studies (Philosophy, History, Geography, Civics)
- Mathematics (General Mathematics, Algebra & Geometry, Calculus & Vectors, Data Management, Advanced Functions)
- English (Essay Writing, Reading, Literature, Writing Skills)
- Languages (Spanish, Mandarin, French, Italian)
Curriculum-based learning
Our certified teachers provide private tutoring that aligns with the current Calgary curriculum. We have upper-level tutors on staff that specialize in all subjects, which enables them to teach professionally and specifically.
We provide a personalized approach to best help your child understand curriculum material. It’s important to us that we are able to introduce curriculum elements to your child before they are taught in the classroom.
When your child can see the parallels between what they are learning with us, and what they are learning in the classroom, it helps them to approach new topics with confidence and ease. After mastering the current curriculum, we revisit topics to fill in the gaps. Instead of skimming over difficult areas, we always return to more difficult topics to ensure comprehension.
Test preparation
Tests can be a source of anxiety and struggle for many students. Our private tutoring services include test preparation to help ensure your child is prepared for their next examination.
Enrichment and remedial programs
Enrichment programs
Tutoring can be an enriching experience for students who want to get ahead or learn more about a subject that interests them. We offer enrichment programs for students between the ages of 4 and 24.
Our enrichment program is ideal for students who need a new challenge, want to get ahead, are interested in a specific course, or want to learn a new language.
Remedial Programs
Is your child being challenged by a specific subject or finding it difficult to keep up with their classmates? Consider our remedial programs. Our remedial programs are specially designed with the common struggles children face in the classroom in mind.
Remedial programs
Our remedial programs are designed to help struggling students get back on track to meet their academic goals. We fill your child’s gaps in knowledge with personalized attention that improves comprehension and provides encouragement in the form of moral and educational support. Our remedial programs include:
- Direct Instruction Reading Mastery Program: This program is geared towards children struggling with reading and literacy. This program includes lesson plans that are fully scripted and keep material clear and controlled.
- The Wilson Reading System: Our Wilson Reading Program is designed to help students with dyslexia or language-based learning disabilities retain information and develop comprehension. In this program, we focus on sensory understanding through reading, sound, and listening to improve fluency and literacy.
Summer Camps
We believe in setting kids up for success and that includes helping them see how to be entrepreneurial with their lives. Just like social skills, business and life skills can and should be taught and kids can easily learn them. Financial literacy goes hand in hand with that – it’s never too early to learn how to make money and what to do with it.
The curriculums for our entrepreneurship and financial literacy camps have been created by entrepreneurs and encompass skills like taking initiative, solving problems, interacting with people confidently, effective time management, and others. They will become more responsible with money as they learn its’ value.
Participants will emerge with an enhanced workplace readiness and sense of personal control regarding future career choices. Email us today at calgary@prepacademytutors.com for a list of partner schools and organizations offering our summer camps focused on entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

Tonia Brown
Tonia started her career teaching French Immersion, where she also assisted in the development of multi school sports programs and coached several teams. She tutored for many years both while earning her education degree as well as while teaching. A firm believer in lifelong learning and in always challenging oneself, she stepped away from teaching toward a career in business after obtaining her Commerce degree and jumped into the business world in a variety of roles including co-founding several businesses. Eager to hone her business skills among like-minded entrepreneurs, she joined the Calgary chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) and served as a Board member holding several positions both at the local as well as the Global board levels.
Passionate about providing varying opportunities for her son, she found herself combining her two passions, Education and Business, more recently by founding MiniPreneursYYC. In the short time between the first classes in September 2018 and the Pandemic-induced immediate pause in March of 2020, over 300 kids in Calgary were able to learn skills required to start their own businesses.
In her spare time Tonia enjoys spending quality time with her son, painting, traveling, hiking, and spending time with great friends.
