The owner
Lindsay Wotherspoon
Lindsay grew up in Toronto. She received a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from Western University and completed a Bachelor of Education at Brock University. She worked in the Independent School Community for just under two decades. As a teacher and a mother of three children, Lindsay understands that each child learns differently and has employed her knowledge of teaching and learning in her own home. The power of listening and empathy are critical elements of Lindsay’s skills.
Lindsay’s career in education spanned over 15 years at a preeminent, independent girls school in Toronto. She was as a primary teacher in Grades 2, 3 and 4, eventually taking on the role as Lead Teacher in an inquiry based environment. Lindsay transitioned from teaching to Enrolment Management. She applied her skills to Student Recruiting; working with students and their families to help them navigate the independent school environment. This role encompassed developing assessments as well as interviewing students and their parents to facilitate a smooth transition to the school.
Lindsay believes that teaching and learning is a collaboration between students, teachers and parents. In order for students to grow into confident and independent learners they must first be known by their teachers. Building relationships with her students and parents is a particular strength of hers. Additionally, she recognizes the importance of timely and effective communication with families in order to build a safe and trusting relationship.

Alexandra T. is in the process of receiving her OCT after completing a Master of Teaching at OISE in the University of Toronto in 2024. In 2022, she completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto in Cinema Studies, English and Philosophy. Alexandra grew up loving movies, and initially wanted to pursue a career in film. However, when COVID-19 derailed the lives of many, Alexandra found herself pursuing prior teaching goals. Growing up, she trained as a ski instructor and worked to teach children how to ski at Craigleith Ski Club, in addition to spending many summers volunteering at McMichael summer camp teaching art. Thus far, Alexandra has worked with many junior and intermediate aged students in both one-on-one tutoring sessions and in-classroom teaching placements in a wide array of subjects. Alexandra truly believes that student success comes from a willingness to learn and by engaging this desire through fun and creative activities, students maintain that desire to grow further. One of the pinch points of growth, in her opinion, is through reading. Reading develops many skills within students of all ages, but first and foremost it develops the imagination! In her spare time, Alexandra works on writing her own fantasy novel, in hopes of one day bringing the joy of reading to many others.

About
Anthony Mayadunne is a multi-disciplinary educator up to the university level in Mathematics (ALM, Harvard), English (MA, UBC), and Business (MBA, U of T). He is passionate about delivering a focused and exciting learning experience to his students—whether they are in Grade 6 … or pursuing their PhD. He is also a SAT trainer (integrating both English and Mathematics sections), and University Admissions Coach for undergraduate and graduate programs, having placed many students in leading universities around the world. When invited to teach Calculus in Engineering Outreach programs (Gr 9 – 12) at U of T Engineering, he developed an engaging approach to teach a famously challenging subject: Calculus. Later, completing his Masters in Mathematics for Teaching, he specialized in teaching Calculus to meet rigorous standards: AP/IB Calculus, Engineering Mathematics, and Mathematics in Arts & Science. His warm and engaging manner has led him to mentor many students in their academic and professional careers. He hopes to persuade the world that all people (including parents) are innate mathematicians, and that Calculus can bring as profound joy as Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, or Maurice Sendak’s Night Kitchen. So far, he has succeeded with about 50 people, and optimistically looks forward to the still 8 billion more people to go.
He has traveled extensively, living for many years in Japan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, and uses these experiences to write short stories, essays and poems. He describes himself in four verbs: I teach, I travel, I read, and sometimes, I write.

About
Idi M. has turned his passion for outreach and community service into a career of education and recreational programming. His work with children started with running soccer programs, various camps, and instructional programs such as Kids Can-Bike. His desire to become a teacher was intensified through soccer programs he coordinated between 2006 and 2013. In 2013, shortly after completing his Bachelor of Education at University of Toronto (OISE) and becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher, Idi entered into the world of education as a primary teacher in Kuwait. Teaching in the middle east proved to be a highly rewarding experience. Working in the private school sector, you meet students who are expats like yourself. Primarily Idi delivered the Ontario curriculum with the support and leadership of Ontario trained and experienced principals and colleagues. Teaching in a K-12 school allowed him to increase his love of teaching Language Arts and Math. But there was more to the work than delivering instruction, assessments and support in the classroom.
The most rewarding part of the work is always to engage students in a manner that meets their learning needs. The goal is always to foster or maintain their joy of learning. Idi’s greatest strength is his ability to create an open line of communication with parents and students. Hearing and empathizing with the needs of others is essential in creating a positive learning environment. This philosophy comes from years of working with children with vast learning needs. It also comes from the ample one-on-one tuition that comes with overseas teaching. Students were often able to improve in their class work after having their learning challenges addressed through greater dialogue and a more appropriate pace. Subjects and concepts can seem overwhelming until the better method is employed to make the material more attainable. This is where his patient approach proves vital. He has spent the last four years teaching and travelling. Exploring various countries in Africa, Asia and the Gulf has broadened his world view. It helped cultivate his belief that no two students are alike and everyone can learn. Idi’s interests include basketball, reading, travel and spending time with family and friends. All this is to say that Idi M. has the skills, experience and insight to serve as a great contributor in the role of educator.

French Teacher
About
Ilana is an Ontario Certified Teacher who is currently the French teacher for students in grades 4-8 at Danforth Gardens Public School in Scarborough. Before becoming a teacher, she began her love for learning when she attended Ottawa’s Carleton University in the Journalism Program. From there, she moved to Montreal and fell in love with the vibrant culture and the immersion in a language other than English.
When she finished her studies, she decided to explore more of the world and other languages, and backpacked through South America for 7 months with her then-boyfriend, now-husband. When they returned to Canada, they kept up their explorations and moved across the country to Victoria, British Columbia where she completed a diploma in Environmental Restoration. For the final piece of the diploma program, she wrote a children’s novel. She connected with teachers so that she could read excerpts from her book and teach young people about the importance of the environment. This is when she realized that she wanted to become a teacher!
As we know, Victoria is far from Ottawa and Montreal which is where Ilana’s family is from. So, she applied to OISE’s (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) Master of Teaching program so that she could be closer to home and become a teacher. Two short years later, she was hired as a permanent teacher, and she could not be happier!
As the French teacher, co-lead of the Green Team and Student Council, and coach of various sports, everyday is a busy one. However, her initiative, strong communication skills and ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks, make it a very enjoyable workplace. Her co-workers tell her that her outgoing personality and sense of humour make it a pleasure to work with her. She is a positive, solution-oriented person with excellent writing and communications skills, in both English and French.
Outside of work, she volunteers with environmental organizations, such as Rain Gardens United. In this role, she attends community farmers’ markets to do outreach work. When she is not working and volunteering, she is either hitting her peers with foam balls in her dodgeball league, or exploring Ontario’s rivers and hiking trails with her husband.

About
Zoya received an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from the University of Toronto with a double major in English Literature and Geography and a Minor in Political Science. Zoya is currently pursuing her Master of Teaching degree at University of Toronto, where she is focusing on becoming an Intermediate/Senor teacher in English and Geography. Zoya’s passion for teaching and education shows through her teaching practices where she approaches every student as individuals who have unlimited potential for growth and success.
Zoya has over nine years of tutoring experience, with two years of teaching experience through summer camps, and teaching in the TDSB and HDSB. Zoya’s strengths lies in her belief in ensuring every student has an individualised lesson plan where they can flourish in their learning and improve their own confidence. Throughout Zoya’s life she grew up in China, Indonesia, Switzerland, and Singapore before deciding to continue her education in Toronto. Thus, Zoya truly believes that fostering an inclusive and open environment that is grounded in trust is of the upmost importance for all students. One of Zoya’s strengths is her experience with academic coaching and learning strategies, where she as a teacher focuses not only on subject related content but also on teaching students what different test/assignment tools and strategies they can use to excel in and outside of the classroom.
When Zoya is not teaching or learning herself, you can find her enjoying whichever book she is currently emersed in, travelling to visit her family, or listening to music. Zoya love for music started when she was three years old, and since then you cannot find her in any relaxing moment where she is not humming a random tune to a random song that is stuck in her head that day.
Prep Academy Tutors listened carefully to our specific needs and paired my son up with two perfectly matched Tudors (Rebecca & Harris). This is our second year with them & the help and support has been second too none. I am beyond grateful and my son is always ready to get to work because of the great support they’ve given him. It is because of Lindsay that things have run so smoothly. Thank you

Excellent! This is the third school year my daughter has been receiving tutoring from Prep Academy. It has been a very positive experience. My daughter’s tutor (Crystal) is personable, punctual, extremely knowledgeable, flexible and consistent. My daughter is tutored in various subjects and her grades have vastly improved. Additionally, she has been taught how to effectively study and much-needed organization skills. I would highly recommend without hesitation.

My son went from not reading at all in the summer before grade one to reading at an advanced grade three level in grade two. I credit our Prep Academy Tutors with this huge jump. He’s also more confident and happy in school in general. He loves having his tutor come and looks forward to it each week.
