Fanwei (Mary) Z.
Fanwei (Mary) is a dedicated Mandarin tutor and former university professor with over 20 years of teaching and academic leadership experience. Before moving to the US, she served as a Professor and Director of the Engineering Management Department at Shandong Technology and Business University in China, where she taught courses in both Mandarin and English and led major academic research programs. For the past five years, Fanwei has been teaching Mandarin in the U.S., working with students of all ages—from kindergarten through college, as well as adults. She specializes in teaching Mandarin for beginners to advanced learners, helping students develop confidence in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Chinese. Her teaching style is interactive, engaging, and highly adaptable to each learner’s goals. Fanwei integrates authentic materials and multimedia tools—including videos, audio clips, PowerPoint, and textbooks such as Easy Steps to Chinese, HSK, and YCT—to make lessons dynamic and effective. She focuses on three key strategies to help students succeed. 1. Connecting learning to daily life. 2. Starting with interesting and relatable topics 3. Using multimedia to deepen understanding and retention. She also supports students preparing for AP Chinese, HSK, and YCT exams. As a bilingual educator fluent in Mandarin and English, Fanwei ensures her students feel comfortable and supported as they navigate the language and culture. Her background as a lead author of a nationally recognized textbook and provincial-level research award recipient reflects her dedication to excellence in education. Abigail B.
Abigail has been working with children of all ages as a teacher’s assistant for the past 2 years. She has over 5 plus years of tutoring experience where she has been able to nurture her student’s skills. Abigail believes in meeting the students where they’re at and helping them learn and grow from there. As no struggle is too small or too big to conquer. As well as in using the students own interests and curiosity to convey an interest and understanding of the material being studied. As a published author Abigail believes in the importance of literacy and the understanding of it. However history is her true passion and what she is getting her degree in. Being able to help her students understand those subjects is very rewarding. In her free time, Abigail enjoys spending time with her family, friends and cats. As well researching/ studying history, and writing/ illustrating for her family’s small business.
DANIELLE D. P.
Danielle is an OCT Certified Teacher who graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Western University in 2020, before moving to Nova Scotia to complete her Bachelor of Education at Acadia University. She has spent the past 5 years in Nova Scotia, where she taught a range of subjects including Music and Band, Health, Drama, English, and Social Studies with students in grade levels K-12.
Danielle always knew she wanted to be a teacher, but her love of teaching was solidified in her grade 12 year, when she did a co-op placement in her local elementary school. She firmly believes that building strong relationships with students is essential in order to help them to succeed. In her spare time, Danielle loves to cook, listen to music, and has been enjoying getting to know the various neighbourhoods around Toronto.
Kaitlan N.
Kaitlan is passionate about motivating students to believe in themselves and thrive academically. She holds a K–5 multiple subject credential as well as a single-subject English credential, and she earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from Point Loma Nazarene University.
Warm, encouraging, patient, and structured in her approach, Kaitlan brings a steady presence that helps students feel comfortable and confident. She has experience supporting students with attention and focus challenges.
Outside of tutoring, Kaitlan volunteers with the Girl Scouts, mentoring girls in leadership and creative projects. She also helps facilitate artist panels at the Chicano Park Cultural Center and Museum. Her community-minded focus, mentorship background, and interest in the arts help her connect quickly with students and make her an especially strong fit for creative, relationship-driven learners.
Monica G.
Monica recently graduated from the University of Toronto, where she completed a Bachelor’s degree with a double major in French Language and Linguistics, and Economics.
Throughout her undergraduate degree, she participated in two French immersion programs through the Canadian government’s Explore program to further develop her language proficiency. Through these programs at the Université Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia and Université Laval in Québec, Monica not only enriched her French language skills but also deepened her understanding of Francophone culture across different provinces.
Monica is passionate about education and aspires to teach French at the high school level. Through her tutoring experience, she specializes in tutoring French students and new learners, where she shares her enthusiasm for language learning. She has always enjoyed working with children and has gained significant experience in this area over the years. Additionally, she volunteers with the Polish Scouting Association, working with children aged 4 to 18. Each summer, she spends two weeks with the organization leading youth on canoeing and backpacking trips through Algonquin Park, where participants develop teamwork, leadership, and outdoor skills. This experience has strengthened her ability to engage, mentor, and support children in diverse learning and developmental contexts. In her free time, Monica enjoys hiking, canoeing and travelling.
Yvonne T.
Yvonne is a compassionate and energetic tutor with over seven years of experience working with children in schools, daycare, programs, and home settings. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Junior) after completing a B.A. Honours in Educational Studies – provides a strong foundation in early childhood development and the Ontario curriculum.
Yvonne has extensive experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including in specialized classrooms for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and behavioural support programs. She is First Aid/CPR certified, bilingual in English and Vietnamese, and skilled in program/lesson planning, creating safe and engaging learning environments.
Yvonne is passionate about helping children reach their full potential by tailoring lessons to their unique strengths, learning styles, and interests. She believes learning should be hands-on, playful, interactive, and positive, building both academic skills and confidence.
In addition to her tutoring experience, Yvonne values fostering a love of learning and promoting personal growth in every student she works with. Outside of teaching, she enjoys reading, dancing, exercising, journaling, and spending quality time with friends and family.
JOANNA R.
Joanna is a passionate, experienced tutor who supports kids with Math and Writing skills. She has a Graduate Diploma of Teaching from the University of Otago in New Zealand, and a Honours BA in Canadian Studies (Geography and History) from Trent University. She brings her background working in outdoor education, traditional classroom teaching and summer camps to her teaching approach. She has a special touch with students who suffer from ADHD and/or executive dysfunction with much experience providing them the support they need.
Maria D.
Dr. Maria, Ph.D., LDT-C, OG-T, is a highly experienced educator, evaluator, and learning specialist with over 18 years of service in New Jersey’s public and private schools. She earned her Doctorate in Teaching, Learning, Leadership, and Curriculum from Montclair State University, where her research explored the connection between cognitive function and learning challenges. Maria also holds dual master’s degrees in Special Education and Reading Literacy and a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
As a Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDT-C) and independent contractor, Maria partners with multiple school districts to provide comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, consultations, and individualized learning plans. She is a certified Orton-Gillingham Dyslexia Therapist and a Certified Clinician through the Center for Cognitive Enhancement (COGx), with advanced expertise in cognitive skills training, executive function development, and evidence-based literacy instruction.
Maria’s extensive background includes creating executive function curricula, coaching parents and teachers, and providing professional development workshops. Passionate and empathetic, she is committed to helping students reach their full potential through personalized, research-driven instruction.
Elias A.
Elias Allen graduated from the University of Oxford in 2017 with a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He worked as an SAT prep teacher and tutor for AP US History, AP World History, and AP Literature in DC and Maryland from 2018 to 2019. Elias served as a Peace Corps TEFL Volunteer in Kosovo from 2019-2020 and from 2022-2023, teaching English to K-12 students. In 2020 and 2021 he worked as a tutor in Oregon for elementary and middle school students, tutoring English, reading comprehension, writing, math, and coding. In 2021 Elias taught English and critical thinking skills to students in Kosovo virtually in the Peace Corps Virtual Service Pilot Program. He graduated from Columbia University with an MA in 2025. In his free time Elias enjoys playing basketball, ping pong, and tennis.
Pablo G.
Pablo is a native Spanish teacher. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting and a Master’s Degree in Teacher Training, making him the ideal choice for learning French and Spanish. Pablo is curious by nature, attentive, and quite adept at connecting with younger people. He recently arrived from France, where he spent two years of his life perfecting his French and working as a Spanish language assistant at a high school. In his free time, he loves spending hours reading novels, watching romantic films and preparing for his next half marathon.
