PAOLA S.
Paola is a seasoned educator with a heart for helping students thrive. With over 25 years of experience in education, she has a strong background in Special Education, Reading Education, ELL, and FSL instruction. Paola has taught children one on one and in small groups for more than 15 years. Paola has also worked to develop IEP’s with students and parents.
After a successful teaching career, Paola has decided to pursue her passion for teaching by transitioning into tutoring. She still loves teaching but wants to focus on providing personalized support to children with diverse needs. Paola has a warm and welcoming personality that shines through in her approach to teaching, creating safe and supportive environments where students feel valued and motivated to learn. She believes in fostering a love for learning in each of her students.
In addition to her teaching experience, Paola has a rich personal life. She has traveled extensively and lived overseas. When she’s not teaching, Paola enjoys spending time outdoors, walking her adorable Aussie Shepherd puppy, swimming, and hiking. She also loves to cook and create a warm and inviting home for her friends and family. Paola’s passion for education and student success is evident in everything she does.
Melanie S.
Melanie is a teacher candidate pursuing her Bachelor of Education in the Intermediate/Senior stream. She holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Global Development Studies. Melanie has extensive experience working as an emergency supply teacher with the TDSB, as well as a Teaching Assistant and ESL instructor. Upon completing her degree, she will be qualified to teach History and Social Sciences, however she also has experience teaching English, ESL, World Studies, and primary-level classes.
Melanie’s teaching philosophy centres on creating engaging, student-focused learning experiences. She loves designing fun, unique activities that help students feel motivated, confident, and excited to learn.
In her free time, Melanie enjoys drawing, travelling, and spending time outdoors.
Sally P.
Sally is a dedicated tutor and fourth-year University of Toronto student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with minors in Computer Science and Mathematics.
She specializes in tutoring Math, Computer Science, Psychology, English, French (beginner–intermediate), and Spanish (all levels). With over five years of experience supporting children and teens in both tutoring and childcare settings, Sally has worked extensively with neurodivergent learners, including students with ASD, ADHD, and diverse learning needs.
Sally creates individualized learning plans tailored to each student’s strengths, interests, and goals, and she collaborates closely with families to monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed. Her teaching style is flexible and inclusive; she adapts lessons for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners using clear routines, visual supports, meaningful practice, and positive encouragement. Above all, she strives to help students feel safe, understood, and confident.
Whether a student needs help catching up, staying motivated, or being challenged beyond the classroom, Sally focuses on building skills and self-belief, not just grades. Her goal is for every learner to leave each session thinking, “I can do this,” and to feel proud of their progress.
Sally is passionate about partnering with families to support each child’s academic growth, emotional well-being, and long-term love of learning through warm, structured, and personalized tutoring.
Sheridan D.
Sheridan graduated from the University of Alberta with a Secondary Education degree and has since taught Grades 7–12 English Language Arts and Social Studies. She also has experience supporting students with specialized learning needs, including Autism, ADHD, and ODD. Through this work, she has learned that building strong relationships is key to understanding each student’s academic needs and helping them thrive. Teaching is both enjoyable and deeply rewarding for her, and she is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all learners.
BERNADETTE M.
Bernadette is an ELA teacher at P.S. 19 in the Bronx. She has worked at P.S. 19 for 28 years as a Special Education/Literacy Specialist. She currently teaches 6th – 8th grade ICT in English Language Arts. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Plattsburgh. She received a master’s degree in Literacy/Special Education K-12 from College of New Rochelle. In her free time, Bernadette enjoys reading and listening to music. She truly enjoys seeing her students excel both inside and outside of the classroom.
Jessica N.
Jessica is a certified teacher with a passion for History and the humanities. She tutors History as well as other literacy-based subjects, including English, Philosophy, and Geography. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Contemporary Studies, majoring in History, at Toronto Metropolitan University and went on to earn her Bachelor of Education in Wales, UK.
Jessica’s teaching style is warm, supportive, and student-centered. She focuses on building confidence, strengthening writing and analytical skills, and breaking down big ideas in a clear, approachable way. Jessica loves helping students make connections, ask thoughtful questions, and feel proud of their progress.
Whether a student needs help with reading, writing, essay skills, organizational skills, or general skill-building, Jessica tailor’s each session to their needs and learning style. She is committed to making learning engaging, manageable, and genuinely enjoyable. Her goal is to help students feel proud of their progress and build skills for success in school and beyond.
Outside of teaching, Jessica enjoys spending time outdoors, practicing mindfulness, and meditation, which helps her support students in managing stress during busy exam periods.
Micaela F.
Micaela is an enthusiastic and student-centered educator with several years of experience in education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a focus in English and has worked in a wide range of educational environments supporting learners of all ages.
In addition to Micaela’s five years of classroom experience teaching grades 1st through 4th, she has spent several years tutoring students from 1st grade through the college level. She has also been deeply involved in youth mentorship—volunteering with local elementary school programs, working as a camp counselor, and most recently serving as a STEM camp director. Her recent work as an Activities Coordinator at an international language school further allowed her to support students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and strengthen her understanding of how to build inclusive learning communities.
Micaela’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that students learn best when they feel seen, valued, and safe. She is committed to creating learning spaces that honor each student’s background and learning style, and she designs lessons that are engaging, collaborative, and curiosity-driven. She encourages students to take risks, ask questions, and actively shape their own learning. Her goal is always to empower students to grow with confidence and feel supported both academically and personally.
Outside of teaching, Micaela enjoys spending time outdoors, whether at the beach or in the mountains, trying new restaurants around the city or experimenting with recipes at home, and enjoying quality time with friends and family. Sophie G.
Sophie G. is an educator with a strong background in teaching, mentorship, and student support across K-12 and higher education settings. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Hamilton College, where she graduated cum laude with minors in French and Government, and she is currently completing her M.S.Ed. in Education Policy at the University of Pennsylvania.
Sophie has taught writing to incoming high school students through Breakthrough Collaborative and AmeriCorps, supported Algebra II learners as an Ignite Fellow with Teach For America, and served as a Teaching Assistant in Hamilton College’s Archaeology Department, where she led labs, supported student learning, and facilitated hands-on instruction.
Her work in admissions at both Hamilton College and Penn GSE has strengthened her communication skills, public speaking abilities, and commitment to educational access. Sophie prioritizes building confidence through individualized instruction and focuses on helping students connect classroom material to their own interests and motivations, fostering deeper engagement and genuine understanding.
Outside of teaching, she enjoys cooking, creative writing, and searching for four-leaf clovers.
Courtney Z.
Courtney is a dynamic, student-focused mathematics educator with over 15 years of classroom experience supporting middle and high school learners. With a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Master’s in Teaching, she brings deep content knowledge and a passion for making math accessible, meaningful, and engaging for all students.
Outside of teaching, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and hitting the tennis courts. She is also a music enthusiast and devoted Red Sox fan, and strives to weave students’ personal interests into her lessons to make learning more engaging and meaningful.
Dr. S. Cuevas
Dr. S. Cuevas is an experienced educator and higher-education professional with more than a decade of success supporting students’ academic growth, confidence, and career readiness. As a first-generation college graduate originally from South Texas’s Rio Grande Valley, and an individual with hearing loss, Dr. Cuevas brings a deep personal understanding of perseverance, inclusive learning, and the power of individualized support. He holds a Ph.D. and a master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling, a bachelor’s in English, and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist (CVE) through CRCC. With a strong foundation in English and literacy instruction, he has taught university courses, supported interdisciplinary research, and guided hundreds of learners in writing, critical thinking, academic planning, and career development. His early experience as a high school English Language Arts, literacy-intervention teacher, tutor for entering college students with disabilities, as well as a writing tutor at the university level, further strengthened his ability to tailor instruction to diverse learning needs. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Dr. Cuevas is known for his warm, patient, and student-centered approach, helping learners build confidence as they master challenging material. He believes students thrive when they feel understood and supported, and he prioritizes building meaningful learning relationships. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring inclusive design projects and mentoring student organizations about raising disability awareness.
