Richard F.

Richard F. is a STEM educator and, since 2023, a one-to-one learning specialist at Fusion Academy, a premier 1-to-1 private school in Malvern, PA. There, he delivers highly personalized instruction in math, science, and executive-function skills, including extensive experience supporting neurodivergent learners. He holds a biotechnology degree from Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ), where he won multiple scholarships and earned Deans List honors. He served as a teaching assistant for Ethics in Science under Julie Fagan and as a research assistant in social psychology under Stephen Kilianski and in biochemistry under William Belden. Before entering education, Richard worked as a scientist and engineer in the pharmaceutical and biomedical sector for companies including Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Sanofi, and Penn Medicine. Richard served as the Environmental Monitoring Program Lead for UPenn’s CRISPR immunotherapy laboratories under Carl June and Bruce Levine and supported the COVID-19 vaccine emergency release at Johnson & Johnson. He also completed Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training with Lockheed Martin and served as Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Northern New Jersey Chapter of APICS.

Outside of the classroom, Richard is an award-winning competitive powerlifter and poker player. He has competed against some of the world’s top professional poker players on internationally viewed live-stream broadcasts, including Doug Polk’s The Lodge (2022), applying performance psychology, probability-based thinking, and disciplined decision-making to his teaching approach. He also plays piano and sings, having performed internationally and at Carnegie Hall on multiple occasions with the Nutley High School music program. Richard has appeared in several amateur high school and college stage productions including The Wiz, Pirates of Penzance, and Made in the Philippines. He has also appeared as a guest musician featured on Hong Kong’s Regal Airport social media channels.

Alessandra S.

Alessandra is a Teacher Candidate completing her first year of the Bachelors of Education program at Lakehead University. She holds an undergraduate degree in English Literature with a specialization in Education, providing her with a strong academic foundation in literary studies as well as a solid pedagogical foundation.

Alessandra is deeply committed to literacy education and believes that strong reading, writing, and communication skills are fundamental to student success across all subject areas and in everyday life. She views literacy not only as an academic skill, but as a tool for empowerment, critical thinking, and meaningful participation in society. Her goal is to support students in reaching their full academic potential while fostering confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

She understands that meaningful learning occurs when students are actively engaged and see relevance in what they are studying. As such, Alessandra prioritizes student-centered instruction, differentiated learning opportunities, and creative approaches that make complex concepts accessible and engaging. She strives to build supportive learning environments where students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and grow.

In addition to her studies, Alessandra works as an Occasional Supply Teacher with the Durham Catholic District School Board. Through this role, she has gained valuable experience implementing the Ontario Curriculum across diverse classroom settings. She is committed to inclusive education and aims to ensure that instruction is accessible, equitable, and responsive to the different strengths and needs of all learners.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Alessandra enjoys listening to rock music, travelling, knitting sweaters, and ice skating. She has had two of her short stories published, and aspires to one day write and publish her own novel, continuing to cultivate and share her passion for storytelling and literature.

Umar A.

Umar is a certified teacher with over three years of classroom experience and is qualified to teach across all elementary divisions. He has taught students in every elementary grade and previously taught science and mathematics at a private high school, where he developed a strong ability to explain complex concepts in clear and engaging ways.

Umar holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education from Tyndale University. His teaching philosophy focuses on building confidence, fostering curiosity, and creating a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to take risks and grow as learners.

Umar was drawn to tutoring after seeing the powerful impact personalized academic support can have on student success. He works closely with students to strengthen foundational skills, deepen their understanding of key concepts, and develop effective study habits. Whether helping students catch up, keep up, or get ahead, Umar strives to make learning both meaningful and enjoyable.

Outside of teaching, Umar enjoys staying active, working out with his brother, and spending time with his two young children while embracing the adventures of new dad life.

Quinn B.

Graduating in the of Spring 2026 from the University of Toronto, Quinn B. is pursuing a Honours Bachelor’s of Arts Degree with a double major in Political Science and Art History, as well as a minor in Sociology. Oringinally from Scarborough, Ontario, Quinn has nearly four years of tutoring experience and is passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve academic success. She focuses on developing strong relationships with her students and adapting her strategies to ensure they meet every students individual needs.

During high school, Quinn co-founded her school’s Peer Tutoring Program and received seven academic awards, including the Lamp of Learning Award and the award for highest academic standing in Grade 12 English. In her spare time, Quinn loves to play volleyball, play with her cat Kippy, workout, and spend time with her friends and family.

 

Miriam H.

Miriam is an educator with a strong academic foundation and growing experience in both English and French‑language science education. She holds a Master of Education from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, and she will begin the Professional Development Program (PDP) at Simon Fraser University this fall as she works toward becoming a certified secondary teacher in British Columbia. She has C1 proficiency in French and is preparing to teach secondary science in French Immersion, combining her scientific background with advanced language skills to support bilingual learners.
In Vancouver, Miriam has been volunteering in a Grade 9 Science classroom at a public high school, where she supports students in developing confidence, curiosity, and clear understanding of foundational scientific concepts. Working closely with learners in both English and French has strengthened her ability to explain complex ideas in accessible, engaging ways.

Seema M.

Seema brings forth a wealth of teaching experience. With over 25 years of service for the TDSB and private tutoring institutions, Seema has worked with students of varying levels in both elementary and secondary capacities. Graduating from UofT with an honours specialist degree in Chemistry and French, and a Bachelor’s of Education degree from Queen’s University Seema seamlessly moves between subjects within the Ontario curriculum. In her spare time she is a freelance writer and director who has contributed articles to literary journals and produced documentary films for the National Film Board of Canada.

 

Martine H.

She is a native French speaker and speaks Spanish too. She has 20 years of experience tutoring all levels of French and beginning Spanish. She has relatives in both France and Switzerland and friends all over Europe. She spent 2 years in Madrid, Spain, living with a Spanish family there during her university years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from San Francisco State University and she has an Emergency Teaching Credential from the state of California.

Her teaching approach emphasizes real world communication, cultural understanding, and personalized instruction tailored to each student’s goals, whether for academic achievement, travel, professional advancement or personal enrichment.

She creates her own lessons tailored for the students’ needs. She believes language learning should be fun, supportive, and empowering, and she strives to create an environment where each student feels comfortable taking risks and growing their abilities every day. SARA W.

Sara is an Ontario Certified Teacher, Reading Specialist, award-winning YA author of White Lies and Defy, and most importantly, an educator who truly understands kids. With over 20 years of junior/intermediate teaching experience with the District School Board of Niagara, she brings deep knowledge of the Ontario curriculum. She has supported students across a wide range of abilities and learning styles, and is known for building strong, genuine relationships that help children feel both supported and capable.

As the mother of two young adults in post-secondary concurrent education programs who continue to compete in high-level sports, Sara understands firsthand the intensity of demanding schedules, travel, and the constant juggle between performance and academics. She appreciates how easily schoolwork can feel overwhelming and how vital strong grades can be for opportunities and scholarships.

Sara believes that meaningful progress starts with connection. Before diving into academics, she takes the time to understand who a child is: their strengths, frustrations, interests, goals, and even the pressures they may be carrying. Currently, she works as an Educational Quality Evaluator in early childhood services.

Océane is trilingual in French, English, and Spanish, allowing her to support students from a variety of backgrounds.

She is known for her warm, patient, and structured approach, tailoring each session to the child’s unique needs.

She loves helping children build confidence, discover a love of learning, and she enjoys reading, traveling, and working closely with families and kids.

Jonathan H.

Jonathan is an enthusiastic and dedicated emerging educator currently studying at Ontario Tech University in the Intermediate/Senior division, with teachable subjects in Physics and Mathematics. He holds an undergraduate degree in Physics from Trent University and a Master’s degree in Astroparticle Physics from Queen’s University, where his research focused on the luminescent behaviour of various materials.

Jonathan brings both strong academic expertise and genuine curiosity to his teaching. Beyond physics and math, he has a keen interest in astronomy and enjoys spending his free time hiking, canoeing, and baking.

His passion for education began while working as a summer camp counsellor at Arrowhead Camp, where he taught outdoor skills such as canoeing and kayaking, while also fostering teamwork, collaboration, and communication among campers. This experience helped shape his belief that meaningful learning happens when students feel engaged, supported, and confident.

Jonathan’s teaching approach is rooted in inquiry-based learning. Rather than emphasizing rote memorization, he encourages students to ask thoughtful questions and deepen their understanding through prediction, observation, and reflection. His goal is to spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire students to develop a lasting appreciation for the world around them.
