TINA M.

Tina recently graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelors in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. She is now pursuing a Master’s
with a focus in clinical engineering, in hopes to pursue work in industry or academia. Her appreciation for teaching was cultivated when she began
tutoring in her high-schools academic help program. She went on to teach professionally throughout her university degree, serving as a course
teaching assistant, as well as a private tutor in a variety of academic subjects. Her areas of expertise lie in the sciences, math and technology at a primary to first-year university level. She also has experience tutoring the CARS section of the MCAT after scoring in the 98th percentile herself. Tina believes in a teaching style that focuses on catering to the students’ needs and uses feedback in order to improve. She also believes in fostering long-term learning habits and strategies that are applicable beyond the subject being taught. In her spare time, Tina likes to do graphic design and play the piano.

Raemyn C.

Raemyn graduated the Concurrent Education Program at York University and specializes in the intermediate/senior division for English and Social Sciences. Her dedication and passion for education helps her create an engaging learning environment for students of various learning styles. She is a great organizational coach and can help your child in becoming more organized and feel more confident in accomplishing their work in a timely manner. Raemyn has experience working one-on-one with students. She has worked in the PAWS Program at York University where she helped at-risk university athletes enhance their organizational skills and keep their grades up to ensure their success in both school, and their chosen sports. Raemyn also has experience working in a high school alongside a mentor teacher to gain first-hand experience within a classroom setting. In her free time Raemyn enjoys watching hockey, spending time with friends and family, and travelling.

 

SHABNAM S.

Shabnam is a theoretical physicist with a PhD from Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, Italy. She has worked as a researcher in different universities and countries. Before moving to Toronto, she lived in Singapore for more than six years and worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Technologies. She has taught undergrad students at universities such as Bilkent University, National University of Singapore and Yale-NUS college. In early 2019 she transitioned from academia to entrepreneurship. Currently she is a Co-Founder and Director of a start-up in Toronto.

In addition to her teaching experience at university level, she was a Math and Physics tutor right after finishing her high school until she became a PhD student. She has her way of simplifying scientific subjects for students to help them learn gradually and develop their logical thinking and problem solving abilities. Even in her entrepreneurial role she enjoys working with the interns a lot.

Shabnam has travelled to several countries and has friends from many different nationalities. Canada is the fifth country that she lives in. In her free time she enjoys cooking, exercising and dancing. When music plays she cannot stand still.

SHEENA G.

Sheena holds a B.Sc. honours in Biochemistry and an M.Sc. in Bioscience, Technology, and Public Policy. She is extremely passionate about teaching, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree. Sheena has over 10 years of experience teaching and mentoring K-12 and university students in various roles, including that of a course instructor, research assistant, career advisor, tutor, and STEM educator. Owing to her achievements in academia and in the community, Sheena has received many prestigious awards, including a Governor General’s Gold Medal. In addition to classroom instruction, she also has extensive experience tutoring distance education students through platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. She is also multilingual and fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English, Punjabi, and Hindi.

IRA B.

Ira brings twenty years of experience teaching literature, writing, and grammar to students at the Horace Mann School in Riverdale, NY. His teaching practice (MA, New York University, English Education) has been informed by his background in theater and writing. He received a BA in Theater Studies from George Washington University and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from Brandeis. He has studied with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company on ways to use rehearsal techniques to engage students’ emotional and kinetic intelligence. Ira’s interest in languages and world cultures drew him to the study of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Teachers College, Columbia University. As an instructor at Westchester Community College, he has taught ESL to students at all levels of English proficiency. He has tutored students in the US and China via Zoom in ESL and TOEFL preparation. Ira brings deep knowledge of his subject areas along with dedication to finding the best mix of techniques to help each student thrive. He knows that students learn best when they feel seen and prized as individuals with interests and skills beyond the work at hand. Ira helps students to see and understand their academic growth so they can develop confidence in their ability to learn independently.

LUKE Z.

Luke is a tutor and learner who values breadth, experimentation and interdisciplinary knowledge, having radically changed majors, schools and career goals many a time. Ultimately earning an MA in Linguistics and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, he has tutored mathematics, French, physics, chemistry and computer programming since 2016, with stints working as a university teaching assistant, dialect researcher, and even a professional web developer. He has worked with students of all ages, from elementary to post-secondary, and with diverse learning needs, such as ADHD and giftedness. Luke believes in maintaining a non-judgemental space where students are encouraged to identify and articulate their difficulties and strengths, formulate goals, and develop a sense of self-efficacy through subject mastery. Grateful to have savoured quite the cheese platter of educational opportunities, he continues to sample new ones, dabbling in theatrical clown, improv, voice acting, and the aerial arts.
