Marcus M.

Marcus has a Master’s degree in Physics from McGill University, and a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Victoria. Marcus has a wide variety of experience as a Teaching Assistant in 100 to 500 level Physics courses at McGill, and an extensive higher level Math education (including upper level Calculus and Linear Algebra). Through his research experience at McGill, Marcus also has a variety of computational skills, including extensive experience programming in Python. Marcus can offer advice on what an academic path in science might look like as a career, particularly in Physics and Astronomy.

With plans to obtain further credentials in the education sector, Marcus hopes to become a secondary school instructor. He believes that any concept can be understood when working to break complex ideas down into their fundamental building blocks. He has experience working with children aged 5-14 through STEM based Summer Camps, and has found there is nothing more gratifying than seeing someone come to understand a concept they were having difficulty with.

Augustin P.

Augustin is a recent graduate (with distinction) from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Science in Honours Psychology. After completing his honours thesis on the neurobiology of opioid addiction, he is eager to apply his knowledge and passion for science through teaching.

He is passionate about an interdisciplinary approach to science and research. In the past he has worked as a personal tutor for students with learning difficulties (SEGPA) at the Externat des Enfants Nantais high school (EDEN) in France. Having studied in three different school systems and lived in multiple countries he understands diverse perspectives, teaching styles. He also recognizes the challenges that come with learning in a second language.

His approach to teaching is focused on nourishing curiosity, imagination and intrinsic interest in the student. He sees that difficulty can often arise from the apparent dryness and irrelevance of concepts that students begin to be confronted with at the end of high school and CEGEP. He emphasizes the logic behind equations and methods rather than focusing on memorization. With the emphasis he places on linking knowledge across classes he aims to foster an understanding of science as a unified discipline. This approach not only facilitates learning and memorization but also helps reduce workload.

He is fully fluent in both French and English, proactive and committed to offering different perspectives that enhance course content and student engagement.

Hajrah M.

Hajrah is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at McGill University. She has completed CEGEP in Pure and Applies Sciences as well as the High School science pathway. Hajrah has 4+ years of tutoring between the ages of 5-20.

Ollie J.

Ollie is currently studying Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (Biology) at Concordia University. He graduated John Abbott College on the honour roll, having completed two internships in environmental science research. He has experience tutoring learners from the elementary to the CEGEP level across a wide variety of subjects.

Ollie is committed to making every student feel welcome. As someone who has struggled with executive functioning, he has personal experience learning how to build routines and study effectively. Ollie believes that teaching learners to work with their unique brains is key to building long-lasting academic habits.

In his free time, Ollie enjoys crocheting, sewing, and embroidery. He also plays the drums!

Lance F.

I’m a mechanical engineer working in the musculoskeletal biomechanics section at Southwest Research Institute. I’ve always enjoyed teaching and tutoring and have been doing it for nearly a decade. I cover all things STEM and bring a unique working experience to tutoring.

Alex D-P

Through tutoring and mentorship, he aims to inspire resilience and confidence in each student, helping them navigate challenges and reach their fullest potential.

Daniel S.

Daniel is a third-year undergraduate student at UBC studying the Neuromechanical and Physiological Sciences under the School of Kinesiology. His academic pursuits encompass the disciplines of biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, and developmental psychology. Over the past 3 years, Daniel has had independent tutoring experience with kids as young as 10 and as old as 17, guiding students through junior-level subjects such as introductory paragraph formation and fraction addition, all the way to senior-level sciences, pre-calculus, and analytical essay writing.

Daniel’s teaching style focuses on building the student’s confidence in navigating new material, with the ultimate goal of student independence. Through comprehensive communication and goal planning, Daniel aims to be reliable and trustworthy as an academic resource for his students.

Daniel enjoys playing baseball, silversmithing, and watching sad movies in his spare time. His current professional ambitions include kinesthetic research, and personal training/ coaching.

He completed his schooling and attained his Bachelors of Science and Education from Western University and U of T in 2013 and 2015, respectively. He is confident that he has the skills and qualifications as well as the passion to work with high school students. Having worked as a high school teacher since 2016, from private schools such as Blyth Academy and Burlington Royal Arts Academy, and several international high schools while abroad in the U.K., followed by securing a position as a teacher within the York Region and Simcoe County district school boards where he works currently, Haisam feels that his past work experience would make him an ideal candidate to provide one on one instruction as a high school tutor. Haisam has continually tutored high schoolers which has further helped him realize the beauty of inspiring and motivating others to be the best they can be, and it has convinced him that the teaching profession is his passion. As a teacher, Haisam seeks to ignite the passion and innate curiosity within the students to want to learn by instilling within them the desire for self-discovery. Once instilled and the interest is developed, he guides and facilitates the students’ personal journey of self-discovery. This passion is what would drive them towards an enduring learning experience. Furthermore, he’s a firm believer in developing a rapport with students to make every moment of their time during his teaching as comfortable and welcoming as possible.
