Courtney P.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science from the University of Texas at Austin. Currently, I am pursuing a Doctorate of Pharmacy at the same institution, having successfully completed three out of four years of the program. Last year, I took a break from my studies to teach mathematics and science to 4th and 5th graders at Prairie Lea ISD. In addition to my teaching role, I provided after-school tutoring for students ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade in subjects tested by the STAAR exam.

I possess considerable experience in delivering small-group and individualized interventions for students in need of remedial support, as well as those who are bilingual emergent or have special educational needs. While my formal educational experience is less extensive, I have a rich and varied background in tutoring that dates back to my freshman year in high school. Over the years, I have assisted students in navigating challenging Advanced Placement courses, including Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, U.S. History, and World History.

In my leisure time, I enjoy managing the 35-acre farm where I reside, engaging in kickboxing, playing with my two dogs, and sketching. I consider myself a skilled cook and a passionate baker. Additionally, I have developed a strong knowledge base in war and military collectibles, antique firearms, sports card trading, and coin collecting, largely influenced by my fiancée’s business in these areas.

With plans to obtain further credentials in the education sector, Marcus hopes to become a secondary school instructor. He believes that any concept can be understood when working to break complex ideas down into their fundamental building blocks. He has experience working with children aged 5-14 through STEM based Summer Camps, and has found there is nothing more gratifying than seeing someone come to understand a concept they were having difficulty with.

Augustin P.

Augustin is a recent graduate (with distinction) from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Science in Honours Psychology. After completing his honours thesis on the neurobiology of opioid addiction, he is eager to apply his knowledge and passion for science through teaching.

He is passionate about an interdisciplinary approach to science and research. In the past he has worked as a personal tutor for students with learning difficulties (SEGPA) at the Externat des Enfants Nantais high school (EDEN) in France. Having studied in three different school systems and lived in multiple countries he understands diverse perspectives, teaching styles. He also recognizes the challenges that come with learning in a second language.

His approach to teaching is focused on nourishing curiosity, imagination and intrinsic interest in the student. He sees that difficulty can often arise from the apparent dryness and irrelevance of concepts that students begin to be confronted with at the end of high school and CEGEP. He emphasizes the logic behind equations and methods rather than focusing on memorization. With the emphasis he places on linking knowledge across classes he aims to foster an understanding of science as a unified discipline. This approach not only facilitates learning and memorization but also helps reduce workload.

He is fully fluent in both French and English, proactive and committed to offering different perspectives that enhance course content and student engagement.
