DAVE M.

Hello! I’m Mr.Dave, and I’ve been helping students understand physics, math, and science for over 30 years. I started my tutoring career by answering an ad when I was in university, and I was amazed at how much fun it was to watch a student suddenly understand concepts they had been struggling with for months.
That first experience changed the course of my life, and led me into a lot more tutoring work, and a second Bachelor’s degree. Eventually, I found myself teaching physics, mathematics, and general science in a private high school for 25 years.
Now I’m transitioning my teaching to a more online medium, and I still love helping young people overcome their challenges in those tough courses.
My focus, especially in physics and science, is to help students really grasp the material conceptually first. Once they have a “gut feeling” about how things really work, students can quickly understand the deeper levels of what is going on.
I have developed a logical, step-by-step approach that really applies to all physics problems. I want to help students learn to know intuitively what to try next. I use a similar approach in teaching math – and in both subjects, I like using several different ways of explaining each idea; different students perceive and learn in different ways, and I love to figure out which approach will work best with each individual.
After 25 years of teaching high school and designing courses, I have gigabytes of images, video clips, handouts, practice problems, and lesson ideas. I’m ready to share those resources to help students not only get unstuck, but also re-discover how much fun learning can be.
I’ve found that once a student is able to overcome a few key points of frustration, their natural curiosity and interest in the subject can be rekindled – and once that happens, the sky is the limit!
If you’re feeling frustrated and confused, it’s time to get connected, get a nudge in the right direction, and get back to enjoying your courses!

She is passionate and knowledgeable yet approachable and friendly. Aiyana hopes to help her students gain confidence in their academics by breaking down concepts, adopting healthy study habits and having a positive mindset. In her free time, Aiyana enjoys exploring the city, spending time with friends and family, and walking her cockapoo, Leo.

CAROL ANN C.

Carol Ann is an Ontario Certified Teacher. She has focused her more than 25 year career on two distinct curriculum areas: Special Education (Grades 6,7,8, all subjects) and English as a Second Language (Grade 7 through University). She has also been a School Librarian for grades K-5. Teaching in these areas has taken Carol Ann to many parts of the world. Her classroom in the Bahamas sometimes had goats walking through. In Greece, the siesta meant she started work at 4:00 pm and finished at 10. In New Zealand, kea birds pulled the rubber windshield wipers off her car in school parking lots. Along the way, she earned a Masters of Education degree (in Toronto) lectured at several universities (Monash and University of Sydney in Australia). She earned her PhD. while traveling regularly between Rhodes and the University of Toronto. Her students were her very best teachers. Everywhere she went students, despite differences in culture and language, responded positively to to her belief in them as capable learners.

Luke C.

Previously the Principal of Blyth Academy and the Vice Principal of The Sterling Hall School, Luke is now ‘coaching’ the stuff that he feels school often misses.

Luke will often start with some tutoring, but he hopes to get into the ‘how’ more than the ‘what’. Luke focuses on how to prioritize, how to time manage, how to overcome blocks and frustrations, and ultimately, how to feel better while tackling tasks. Luke is certified through the International Coaching Federation, and he is almost through his Psychotherapy accreditation. Over the last three years, over 100 students have tackled Structuring for Success, a program Luke has built since leaving formal education. Luke would  love to tell you more about it!

I have taught grade 11 and 12 English numerous times, meaning that I have developed lessons, activities and worksheets specifically designed to help and improve a student’s essay writing.

Having 3 years experience working with international students, I am confident in my ability to help your child if English is their second language.
