ANTHONY M.

Anthony Mayadunne is a multi-disciplinary educator up to the university level in Mathematics (ALM, Harvard), English (MA, UBC), and Business (MBA, U of T). He is passionate about delivering a focused and exciting learning experience to his students—whether they are in Grade 6 … or pursuing their PhD. He is also a SAT trainer (integrating both English and Mathematics sections), and University Admissions Coach for undergraduate and graduate programs, having placed many students in leading universities around the world. When invited to teach Calculus in Engineering Outreach programs (Gr 9 – 12) at U of T Engineering, he developed an engaging approach to teach a famously challenging subject: Calculus. Later, completing his Masters in Mathematics for Teaching, he specialized in teaching Calculus to meet rigorous standards: AP/IB Calculus, Engineering Mathematics, and Mathematics in Arts & Science. His warm and engaging manner has led him to mentor many students in their academic and professional careers. He hopes to persuade the world that all people (including parents) are innate mathematicians, and that Calculus can bring as profound joy as Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, or Maurice Sendak’s Night Kitchen. So far, he has succeeded with about 50 people, and optimistically looks forward to the still 8 billion more people to go.
He has traveled extensively, living for many years in Japan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, and uses these experiences to write short stories, essays and poems. He describes himself in four verbs: I teach, I travel, I read, and sometimes, I write.

CHRISTINE D.

Christine Duff is a very experienced Special Education Teacher who is passionate about empowering students to excel in school. Christine brings to her lessons lots of colorful hands-on learning materials and games, as well as an infectious attitude that makes learning much more fun! Christine loves working with individual students – as well as their families – to better understand how learning differences can impact experiences in the classroom, as well as academic performance. Christine spends 1-1 time with each student to ensure that they are equipped with the kinds of skills and strategies that will help them to gain more confidence and independence – and improve their overall grades!

Christine is qualified to lead academic tutoring and coaching programs for students in Elementary School, Middle School, and High School, as well as those in college and university. She strongly believes that experiencing school success is closely tied to quality of life, and that all students should have access to fair and appropriate educational opportunities.

MAN L.

Man Lu holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. With a strong background in both chemistry and engineering, she has developed a deep understanding of these fields, which she effectively imparts to her students. Specializing in high school education, Man focuses on teaching calculus and chemistry, helping students grasp complex concepts with clarity and confidence. She is deeply passionate about education, always striving to encourage and motivate her students.

In addition to her work with high school students, Man has three years of experience teaching university-level courses in calculus, engineering mathematics, and chemistry. Her experience at the university level has honed her ability to address diverse learning needs, ensuring that her students not only learn but also excel.

EMILY F.

Emily has a Ph.D. in the Humanities and Social Sciences graduating from the Program in Social and Political Thought at York University. She has been teaching at the university level for over 30 years working closely with students to help them realize their academic potential through interactive and engaging methods of delivery. She has taught at the University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University and Laurentian University.

Emily enjoys in-person tutoring and has experience with online support where necessary. She can work with students on homework assignments, test preparation, and exam review while providing frequent monitoring and feedback to both students and parents. With a B.A. in the performing arts as well as a professional background in film writing and production Emily is able to use creative and experiential teaching strategies in conjunction with technology.

Emily believes and takes pleasure in tailoring her teaching approach to the unique needs and learning styles of each student. She is able to work with visual, auditory or other approaches according to the student’s strengths. She assesses student challenges precisely and comprehensively and, in keeping with student goals, is able to develop personalized lesson plans that promote a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Critical thinking and problem solving are crucial to professional and personal success. These forms of thinking are the foundation of academic work and are the backbone of Emily’s approach to facilitating student success while enjoying the process of learning!

Alice I.

Alice has been a teacher for 26 years. She loves helping children reach their full potential! She has experience as an English as a second language teacher, kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grade teacher. Her favorite subject to teach is math and she is also a certified reading specialist. In her free time, she likes to read, garden, spend time with her 3 children, and hike outside with her 2 dogs.

LOVISA F.

Lovisa is an award-winning educator (Toronto Metropolitan University’s Dean’s Teaching Award and the Sue Williams Excellence in Teaching Award) with a doctorate from the University of Toronto/OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education). Her extensive teaching experience comes from independent school settings, where she taught pre-k to upper elementary grades. Throughout her doctoral journey, Lovisa discovered her strong skillset and aptitude for coaching and mentoring young adults, particularly in study skills, writing skills, and preparing for secondary and postsecondary admissions processes.

As a former field advisor of the Master of Arts in Child Study and Education program at the University of Toronto, Lovisa has been involved in the department’s admissions application process, including making decisions on student acceptance, ranking admissions essays, and conducting candidate interviews. Her well-versed and multi-faceted experience in the school admissions process makes her a great advisor for students seeking support and guidance on admissions into secondary and postsecondary institutions. In addition, Lovisa has a strong interest in teaching and supporting students’ writing for literacy courses and various subject-specific courses. Her knowledge, expertise, and experience in literacy and writing come from publishing in educational texts, teaching literacy courses and writing curricula. She looks forward to working with students from middle-upper grades to postsecondary, helping them recognize and achieve their best potential and academic endeavours. Her work has resulted in numerous successful student admissions and improved writing skills, demonstrating her effectiveness as an educator.

STEPHEN C.

Stephen Carter has a BA, MA and PhD (ABD) in English literature. He was a University Teaching Assistant for five years at two Canadian universities, and he has taught and tutored elementary, high school, and college/university students for over ten years. As a teacher, Stephen helps students cultivate a love for learning, achieve academic success, and develop advanced skills in reading, writing, analysis, critical thinking and speaking.

Sandi M.

Sandi Mustard is a Certified Teacher. She grew up in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, moving to Vancouver to complete an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology. As well, she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Arts Education. Most recently, she completed a Masters of Education (Innovations in Maths Education). Sandi has a lifelong passion for working with children, beginning at a young age. She loved volunteer babysitting for mothers’ meetings in her teens and led arts-based summer day camps during her undergraduate degree. She joined the world of education as a Certified Education Assistant, working extensively with students with autism and other developmental disabilities. She has also taught English in Thailand, where she hit the beach every day after work. In 2009, Sandi returned to UBC to complete a Bachelor of Education, and has been joyously teaching ever since. She is passionate about supporting the improvement of reading, writing, vocabulary and math skills. Sandi knows that by building a strong relationship with her students she is better able to meet their needs and grow their learning. She engages students using their curiosity and interests to help them gain the confidence they require to succeed. In her leisure time, Sandi enjoys hiking and backpacking and anything on or in the water. You can often find her at or near Okanagan Lake, swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking or boating. And if she’s not there, she’s up in the hills! Sandi looks forward to supporting your child, teaching in a way that guides them towards their fullest potential.

SAMUEL S

Samuel has Master’s degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Toronto. He has conducted basic biomedical research sciences for over a decade, with a focus on vascular biology. Samuel has had a depth of teaching professionally and privately in the biological sciences at the undergraduate and graduate levels including the professional MCAT exam.

Zoë M.

Zoë graduated magna cum laude from the University of Toronto, specializing in research psychology and minoring in English.
They graduated from York University with an MA in critical psychology, their thesis focusing on accessibility in undergraduate education.

Zoë’s passion is teaching and learning, and they have expertise in a variety of subjects. Most notably, they have been an SAT tutor for over ten years — tutoring 1-1, teaching intensive courses, designing lesson plans and curricula, training other instructors, and even writing an SAT Teacher’s Manual, which was sold to various test prep and tutoring companies, and which they still update yearly for personal use.

Zoë’s teaching style is reflexive, engaging, agile, and learner-centred, informed by their extensive knowledge of psychology and pedagogy, and enriched by their confidence in every student’s ability to succeed when given the right tools.
