DOMINIC W.

Dominic Wang is a highly dedicated math and physics tutor with a proven record of helping students excel, from middle school fundamentals to advanced AP, IB, and university-level courses. As a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, Dominic combines deep subject knowledge with a warm, approachable teaching style. During his time as a university tutorial instructor, he consistently received outstanding feedback from students, who praised his clear explanations, patience, and ability to make even the toughest concepts feel manageable.

With an international background and experience working with students from diverse learning styles, Dominic specializes in tailoring lessons to each student’s strengths and challenges. Parents appreciate his structured yet engaging approach, while students enjoy the supportive learning environment he creates. Jennifer R.

Jennifer has been engaging students in grades kindergarten through eight for the past 25 years, retiring this past school year. Although only in retirement for two days, she already missed the students and the love of teaching and learning.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, while minoring in English and Social Science. She holds Elementary Education Grades K-6 & English Grades 5-9 certifications in Florida. She achieved her Master of Arts degree in Teaching & Learning, as well as in Curriculum and Instruction, and is certified in professional development. She also holds endorsements in English As a Second Language as well as in the area of Gifted and Talented education.

As all of this education is essential to understanding the techniques and strategies that help to connect and teach students in the most successful way, the experience and relationship building she prides herself on, is really what makes this educator most qualified. Jennifer has worked with all levels of learners, ie: those with ADHD, LD, as well as those on the gifted or high achiever end of their learning. In her last position, she was the head of the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) committee, enabling her to continually keep up with the latest changes and trends with our youth and in our world. She strives to entertain, while stimulating students’ learning.  She shows enthusiasm, is flexible, and expressive. Students with whom she works, feel inspired, welcome, challenged, and engaged. Jennifer is a teacher who believes in educating the whole child, seeking out his or her strengths and interests, not just the areas needing improvement. She connects with children and makes them feel heard and important. She would be an asset in any learning environment.

TASFIA A.

Tasfia is an experienced STEM tutor with over four years of tutoring experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, specializing in secondary and post-secondary mathematics and sciences. She has worked with more than 100 students across diverse curricula, including the Ontario curriculum, International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), Danforth’s MaST, and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs. Tasfia has extensive experience supporting students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), skillfully adapting her teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and ensure comprehensive understanding and skill mastery. She is a compassionate, friendly, and adaptive educator with a special interest in cognitive psychology who approaches learning from a trauma-informed perspective.

 

GAVIN O.

Gavin graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in 2022 and a Master of Quantitative Finance degree in 2024. He completed his tutor training with the CRLA in 2019 while working as a full-time math tutor at Centennial College. Gavin has worked as a part-time tutor since 2022 and has worked with hundreds of students in grade levels ranging from elementary to high school to college-level math students, and has experience working with students with disabilities and who speak English as a second language. In addition to working as a private tutor, in 2022 Gavin worked as a teacher for Algorithmics Waterloo where he instructed students on math competitions, Grade 11 Functions and Python programming. Furthermore, he has contributed to artistic projects that use cartoons and illustration to make math concepts more intuitive and engaging. Through these experiences Gavin has developed a passion for making math instruction participatory and engaging. As a hobby Gavin buys pieces of shiny cardboard that somehow regularly outperform the S&P 500

William M.

ENG: William is a McGill graduate in Computer Science & Linguistics with 5+ years of experience tutoring a variety of subjects, specializing in Math. In CEGEP, he was a peer tutor in the Music Department at Vanier College, helping fellow students understand Music Theory and Ear Training, and he worked for a private company tutoring students from elementary school to CEGEP alike in STEM topics, French, and English. He discovered his love for teaching as a young teenager helping his neighbour’s son with French, and finds fulfillment in seeing his students become more confident and feel proud of their improvement. William brings an encouraging and positive approach to tutoring, and focuses on developing his students’ independence and confidence in their problem-solving skills. In his free time, William enjoys playing video games, hiking, playing the cello, and learning foreign languages.

Eric X.

Eric is an experienced tutor with a Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto and an Honours Bachelor of Science in Medical Physics from McMaster University. His strong academic background provides a solid foundation in mathematics, physics, and science education.

Eric has served as a Physics Teaching Assistant at McMaster University, where he lectured on tutorials and supervised lab sessions. In addition, Eric has extensive tutoring experience with Grades 10 to 12 students, including preparing students for the Waterloo Math Contest to enhance their problem-solving abilities and mathematical reasoning skills.

Eric’s personalized teaching approach focuses on adapting to each student’s unique learning style, building confidence, and achieving academic excellence.

Charles B.

Dr. Barclay is a seasoned educator with over 20 years of teaching experience. He has taught learners in every grade and over fifteen subjects, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Earth Science, Reading, and Language Arts.  Dr. Barclay holds a Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Maryland at College Park, a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Western Michigan University, a Master’s of Science in Logic, Computation and Philosophy from Carnegie Mellon University, and PhD in Philosophy from the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Barclay’s pedagogy has been acknowledged by others. In 2019, he was awarded the Graduate School’s Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for AY 2018. This achievement is given to the top 2% of 4,000 Graduate Assistants in a given year.

Dr. Barclay has a range of experience in private tutoring, including tutoring students whose native language is not English. He understands that tutoring is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and, consequently, aims to work with students and their families to understand the unique needs of the students. To that end, Dr. Barclay tries to create a tailored tutoring approach, specific to the learner by walking the student through a range of assignments, including homework assignments and projects. When necessary, Dr. Barclay even communicates with the student’s teachers about missed work and additional resources that could enrich the student’s education. His commitment and wholistic approach to tutoring is seen in the success of his students – many of whom see significant improvements in test scores and overall GPA.

Finally, it should be noted that the breadth of Dr. Barclay’s teaching experience has given him opportunities to teach a wide range of students from the general student population to students with learning, mental, or physical disabilities. Indeed, some of Dr. Barclay’s students with special needs continued to be tutored by him even after graduating high school. Through his teaching experiences, Dr. Barclay recognizes that learning is a life-long journey and he is happy to play a role in the learner’s journey.

Lisa P.

Lisa has a bachelor’s degree from The University of Pittsburgh majoring in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. Lisa began her teaching experience very early as a tutor then an adjunct professor at a community college. After moving to Florida in 2019, Lisa obtained her teaching certification through the Florida Department of Education in Mathematics 6-12, Exceptional Student Education, Physical Education 6-12, Elementary Education and ESOL. Lisa has been employed with the Sarasota County School District since 2022 and has experience working on staff in the classroom as an ESE and mathematics teacher both in middle and high school. She currently teaches high school Mathematics at a charter school in Manatee county full time. Lisa has three children and enjoys time at the beach, tennis, skiing and reading in her spare time.

Dr. Stephen H

Dr. Stephen Hackler holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Physics and Bachelors degrees from Rutgers University in Physics and Computer Science. They’ve worked as an instructor at Penn and Swarthmore and know what it takes to excel in the college classroom. They use thoughtful and compassionate teaching strategies to identify each student’s unique skills and specific needs and help them to improve both their performance and their understanding of challenging material. Stephen is attentive to the many stresses that students experience in todays highly competitive academic environment and is passionate about supporting the wellbeing of their students as they work to deepen their understanding and master challenging content.

Michael B.

Michael is a third-year undergraduate student at Western University pursuing an Honours Double Major in Biochemistry and Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences. An aspiring physician with a passion for learning, he was recognized with AP Calculus and Statistics awards in 2023, scoring top marks on AP exams, and has since maintained a near-perfect 3.94 GPA. Since 2019, Michael has worked in education, serving as a teaching assistant at Spirit of Math Schools and Villanova College, as well as a private tutor. As a math and science mentor, he teaches with enthusiasm, inspiring students to approach science with curiosity and discovery. Outside academics, Michael enjoys playing the saxophone, chess, golf, and biking. In addition, Michael devotes his time to social work by volunteering and his local food bank as well as acting as the founder of the BEAM group, a student initiative targeted at providing academic mentorship to underprivileged students.
