CARMEL Y.
Carmel Youkhana completed her Bachelor of Education at Nipissing University in April 2022. Prior to this, she attended Wilfrid Laurier University where she enjoyed completing her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. Throughout her teenage years, Carmel loved working at various summer camps and tutored English, which is where her passion for working with children began. As she continued to take on teaching roles during her university career, she realized her love for education and learning. For the past year and a half, Carmel has had the pleasure of teaching English to international students ages 3-12 through an online learning platform. She believes in fostering confidence in all her students and has a passion for making learning an enjoyable experience.
During her teaching practicum, Carmel taught students in the intermediate/senior division, specifically grade 8’s and all grades in high school. She has taught a variety of subjects in the classroom but has always had a knack for science/biology and English. Carmel’s job as an English teacher has given her the opportunity to work with a wide range of students in a one- on-one setting, developing her ability to build strong relationships and personalize lessons. She has a strong desire to see students succeed and will guide them to reaching their full potential. Keith R.
Keith Robinson is a professionally certified teacher with more than thirty years’ teaching experience. He grew up in Vancouver, where he developed a keen interest in marine biology. After earning a degree in Biology from UBC, he spent several years working on various research projects at sea, through the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo. In the mid-1980s, he decided to go into high school teaching, where he could share his love of science with young people. His teaching career has seen him engaged with students in high school laboratories in northern Canada, and more recently online. His repertoire includes all senior levels of Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, Earth Science, and Junior Science.
During his teaching career, Keith’s expertise has been frequently sought by the Ministry of Education on matters related to curriculum, learning resources, and testing. And recently, Keith returned to university, earning his MSc at Royal Roads in Victoria.
No longer in the school lab, Keith Robinson continues to author online courses and to teach senior Chemistry part-time online, where he greatly enjoys connecting with students virtually and helping them achieve their goals. When he is not teaching, Keith can be found cycling and skating the ski trails around Kelowna. During down times, he reads a lot—mostly Tolkien, CS Lewis, Orwell, and Russian literature in translation.
Harry S.
Harry has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto and has nearly completed a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Toronto.Harry has been tutoring students ages 10 and up for 8 years. In that time, he has taught everything from grade-school math all the way up to 3rd year university physics, chemistry, math, and statistics.
In addition to his 8 years of experience as a one-on-one tutor, Harry has 5 years of experience tutoring students online, and 2 years of experience teaching classes of 30 students.
Harry’s teaching style uses a student’s understanding of the concrete world around them as a springboard for learning math. He starts by giving his student a concrete problem to solve. Once they’ve solved it correctly, he changes the problem slightly and asks them to solve it again. He then challenges his student to find similarities between the two solutions and generalize any patterns they see. Then he and his student discuss how these abstract patterns relate back to concepts his student might be learning in class.
This technique has proven an essential arsenal in Harry’s tool kit for teaching math, especially to younger kids, and Harry hopes to continue to hone it as he exposes more and more students to it.

Jason has extensive curriculum knowledge in the sciences and excels while working with students in an individual capacity. Jason has taught and tutored both in-person and online and has received positive feedback throughout his career. Jason enjoys applying his experiences as they relate to the content in the tutoring session.
