LIAM O.
Liam O’Donnell has been a medicinal research chemist for approximately fifteen years. Educated in Great Britain, he completed his undergraduate and Master’s degree in Chemistry at University of Leeds with a GPA of 3.94. Subsequently, he completed his PhD at the University of Nottingham. His thesis identified the intermediate as a key reason for the poor yield of a crucial synthetic step. He resolved the problem by synthesizing a more stable compound. After completing his PhD in 2012, he was accepted into a post-doctoral fellowship at York University. During this time, he worked on a medical chemistry project, the details of which are classified, and are in collaboration with the Leslie Dan School of Pharmacy (University of Toronto). He was very successful in developing compounds to selectively target one form of the targeted receptor over the other.
During both his academic and industrial laboratory experiences, Liam strives to convey his continued enthusiasm for chemistry to the next generation of scientists and has developed an ability to communicate complex scientific ideas in a way that is both clear and easy to understand. Furthermore, he has formal experience of teaching and tutoring students in chemistry (and the physical sciences more generally). In particular, he spent two years overseeing undergraduate laboratory classes at the University of Nottingham, marking pre-laboratory assignments, overseeing students as they carried out practical experiments, and assessing final samples. Additionally, he has tutored sessions in Chemistry, High School Science, and Math in Toronto for a selection of students and has edited Masters theses for junior graduate students in the Orellana lab at York University.
Although Liam has found Toronto to be his home for several years, he is proud of his roots in Liverpool and this is reflected in his music tastes (the Beatles and Frankie goes to Hollywood), is an avid supporter of Liverpool FC. His other interests include cooking, reading, socializing, and enjoying city life.

Dhakshan R.
Hello! My name is Dhakshan. I am currently a Health and Physical Education teacher with the Durham District School Board. My teaching areas are intermediate math, intermediate science, and senior science. Prior to teaching with the DDSB, I worked both seasonally and full-time with the YMCA of Greater Toronto. I was a part of the team that organized and supervised 50+ summer camps. I gained many years of experience working with children and youth through recreational programs.
My teaching experience started overseas in Australia where I went to teachers college and taught grade 7,8 and 9 math, science and phys.ed at a high school in North Queensland.
I love getting to know my students both personally and their learning styles so that I can help them achieve their full potential. I look forward to working with my students so they can succeed!
When I am not teaching you can find me playing baseball, cheering on the raptors and blue jays, playing video games and enjoying all things marvel and Disney.
Preeti D.
Preeti is a graduate student, nearly completing her Master’s of Science degree at York University. She has had extensive experience working as a Teaching Assistant, teaching undergraduate students in biology courses. For example, she taught laboratory skills and theory, and has also guest-lectured in Microbiology. During her time as a Teaching Assistant, she held office hours. During this time, she worked one-on-one or in a small group with her students to assist them on course material and assignments. She has also volunteered as a mentor with children ages 9-12 with Future Possibilities. At this program, she mentored children on completing a goal to help their community.
Preeti’s teaching philosophy is simple: she believes that there is no singular method to optimally teaching a student. Each person learns in their own way–as a result, she makes it her personal goal to tailor her methods to each specific student. Preeti also considers herself to be a lifelong learner, thoroughly enjoying education and working with students.
In her spare time, Preeti likes to cook vegan food, spend time with her cat Chase (and any other animal she meets), do needlepoint embroidery, and play video games. Right now, she prefers PC gaming to console gaming!
