Maryam B.

Maryam is a third-year honors undergraduate student majoring in biochemistry at York University. She possesses both a strong foundation in STEM subjects and an eye for the arts. Maryam specializes in subjects including Mathematics, Science, Biology, Chemistry, French, English, History and Social Studies. Before she transferred to York University, Maryam earned first place among her peers in Calculus at the American University of Sharjah, UAE. Having lived in 14 international cities, and 6 countries, and traveled to 20+ countries, Maryam has become a vibrant mosaic of so many mesmerizing cultures. Moreover, she is fluent in 3 languages: English, French, and Arabic. Working as both a swim instructor and tutor for over 11 years now, Maryam excels at conveying knowledge in an engaging and digestible way. She is an approachable and patient educator, prioritizing the student’s engagement and understanding. Learning is an uncomfortable experience, and Maryam recognizes that students may feel afraid or intimidated. So she makes sure to accommodate students as best as possible while still challenging them and improving their abilities. Jorge is a student, tutor, and published author. He is studying Computational Applied Mathematics and Philosophy at the University of Calgary and has extensive experience tutoring, particularly in the maths and sciences.

Kerrin has been an experienced teacher in Asia for 12 years, teaching senior chemistry, senior biology, mathematics 10, science 10, and physics 11. Kerrin is very passionate about science education and has numerous experiences assisting students to achieve their academic goals.
Kerrin has recently returned from Asia teaching first at Nisga’a Elementary Secondary School and currently teaching at Whistler Secondary School. Outside of work he often engages in numerous sporting activities.

Elsie is a certified teacher with a deep love for nature. Originally from the West Coast, Elsie first studied for her Bachelor of Science (specializing in birds & parasites) before deciding to pursue a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Sciences. Elsie has been living and working in Manitoba for 6 years now, where the winters are not as terrible as most people say.

An experienced High School teacher, Elsie’s true passion is teaching outside of the classroom. She has worked for several years as an educator at Assiniboine Park Zoo, fostering connections with nature for students and adults.
Elsie has worked with students of all ages in a range of subject areas, and loves seeing the lightbulb moment when something becomes real for a student.

In her spare time Elsie enjoys birdwatching, reading, and playing with her two cats.
