Beverly Y.

Beverly graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Harvey Mudd College and an Master’s of Education from Boston University.

She is a Certified Teacher who has worked with elementary and middle school students in Taiwan, Japan, and the United States.

Beverly’s diverse teaching experience has shown her that building relationships with students is the most important step in meeting their educational needs.

She believes every student is a “math person” and prioritizes developing number sense and critical thinking during her sessions. Beverly is excited to help students find learning strategies that work for them and encourage their curiosity about math.

In her spare time, Beverly enjoys hiking through autumn landscapes, solving jigsaw puzzles, and pondering why students have contentious arguments over whether a hotdog is a sandwich. (She’s inclined to say, “Yes,” per the Merriam-Webster definition.)

Hazel T.

Hazel has 7 years experience working with children and teens and has been an art teacher for 3 years.

She graduated with distinction from Concordia with a BFA (Computation Arts Specialization) in 2021.

Rebecca S.

Rebecca is currently completing her first year in the Master of Teaching program with a specialization in primary/junior education, at the University of Toronto. She recently graduated from Queen’s University and received a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Psychology. Through her undergraduate and graduate studies, Rebecca has worked as a teacher and mentor to young students of varying ages. Most recently, she completed a practicum placement teaching students in the fifth grade, and she is about to begin her second placement in a kindergarten classroom. Outside of teaching, Rebecca also has a passion for mentorship and supporting students with diverse needs. She has worked as a mentor to at risk students in a weekly after school program, to help children develop positive life and academic skills. She has also mentored first year psychology university students throughout her undergraduate studies, as well as exchange students in her final year. In both experiences, she was responsible for answering any queries and supporting these students in adjusting to their new environments. Rebecca strives to foster growth and development in the students she works with, and she is keen to implement effective evidence-based teaching strategies in her practice. In her spare time, Rebecca loves to travel, paint, crochet, and spend time with her dog and cat!

STEVEN G.

Steven is a teacher candidate at Nipissing University – he will finish his program spring 2024 and will be an Ontario certified teacher, qualified to teach Primary/Junior students. Steven attained his undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he majored in criminology, and minored in English. He has worked as a private tutor for over five years including teaching overseas in Taiwan where he expanded his teaching methodologies and curriculum knowledge.

Stephen specializes in math, languages, and art for primary/junior grades – and very much enjoys learning new teaching techniques & using them to enhance his student’s knowledge. Steven is a native English speaker and is working towards developing his Greek and French language skills. As a teacher, Steven’s goal is to stay engaged and keep in the loop when working with his students, build solid rapport,and make connections as an educator. He strives to create meaningful, authentic, and practical learning opportunities for students to develop problem-solving strategies, and grow into critical and independent learners and thinkers. For this teacher, there’s always more to know and grow, with no room left for giving up!

Tiffany M.

Tiffany is a passionate OCT certified teacher, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Toronto. She is currently in her final year at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, working towards her Master in Teaching.

Tiffany prioritizes building strong, trusting relationships with her students to cultivate an inclusive, caring, and safe learning environment. She tailors her teaching approach to address the unique needs of each student and is committed to challenging them to facilitate their growth and development.

In her free time, you can find Tiffany exploring nature trails with her pup Milo and discovering charming hidden cafes throughout the GTA.

Rebekah A.

Rebekah A. has an undergraduate degree in Anthropology and a Masters of Teaching from OISE. Rebekah fell in love with teaching during her 2 years as a TEFL certified English teacher in Munsan, Paju, Korea. When she returned to Canada she continued her education at OISE. Her pedagogy is student inquiry led and employs the UDL or Universal Design Learning process to support ELLs, those with accessibility needs and everyone that needs a bit of support to reach their goals.

HANNAH R.

Hannah R. recently graduated from University of Toronto with an HBSc in Astronomy & Astrophysics and History & Philosophy of Science. She excelled academically, receiving many scholarships in math and physics in addition to being a Rhodes Scholarship Finalist and graduating with a 4.0 CGPA. During university Hannah gained teaching experience as an intern at Toronto French School working with grade 11 & 12 Theory of Knowledge students, and as a teaching assistant for a university course about the History of Math. She also kept herself busy as the president of the History & Philosophy of Science Undergraduate Society and as an athletic trainer for her college’s dragonboat team. Hannah has always been passionate about education and as she grew older she became more acutely aware of the opportunities afforded to her from her own education. This awareness inspired her to launch an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a charity which mails books to preschool children, to help support early education in her hometown of Saskatoon. Hannah’s passion for education grew deeper throughout her studies as she recognized the necessity of effective science education for a fruitful science-society relationship. She is eager to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for science with students to help them not only succeed in their courses, but to better understand the world around them. Hannah’s diverse educational background enables her to help students succeed in many subjects. In her free time, Hannah can be found at the gym training for her next powerlifting meet. If she shows up to a tutoring session with a massive backpack, it is probably full of snacks and lifting gear because she is headed to the gym after!

Jirline M.

Jirline has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Education degree. She has additional qualifications in special education, math, reading and physical education through York university. She was a Behavioural Teaching Assistant for nine years and transferred those skills in her teaching practice for the past five years. She uses her experience to support and guide students to achieve their best while learning.

Tamara T.

Tamara is currently pursuing her teaching degree in the Primary/Junior division at OISE’s Master of Teaching Program. With a background as a Registered Early Childhood Educator (ECE), she holds a bachelor’s degree in child development and a diploma in early childhood education. With over five years of dedicated experience working with children, Tamara is deeply passionate about fostering the well-being of students to ensure their success and thriving development. Recognizing the significance of building a strong teacher-student relationship, Tamara is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space where students feel encouraged to express themselves and reach their full potential in their learning journey.

Lucía L.

Lucía L. was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. In Colombia, she attended an Italian immersion school for twelve years. She moved to Canada in 2014 and graduated from York University with a BFA in Dance. Since graduation, Lucía has worked as a professional dancer and teacher for over five years. Simultaneously she worked as a Student Recruiting Associate at The Bishop Strachan School, interviewing and assessing Junior School and Boarding School student applicants. At BSS, she developed strong relationships with incoming students and families and learned different teaching and learning methods from exceptional faculty. Lucía is a Master of Teaching (Primary/Junior) candidate at OISE, University of Toronto. She enjoys teaching Math, Spanish and Italian, supporting students studying skills and strategies. She is an enthusiastic and creative teacher passionate about building confidence in students learning.
