Samantha L.

Hi there! My name is Samantha, and I am a teacher with the Toronto District School Board. I currently teach in a Junior Autism Intensive classroom and am qualified to teach students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

I hold a diploma and degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor of Education from York University. I also have additional qualifications in Reading, Mathematics, ESL, Special Education, and Physical Education.

My teaching philosophy is collaborative and strength-based, with a focus on building confidence and supporting each student’s individual needs. I am fluent in English and Cantonese.

 

Sylvie R.

Sylvie is a graduate of Ottawa University with a B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry as well as completing her B. Ed. with specialties in mathematics and chemistry at this institution. She has taught secondary mathematics and sciences and was the Student Success Leader for 25 years. She is now a pedagogical coach at the Consortium Centre Jules Léger (CCJL) to help deaf, blind and deaf blind students achieve their goals by helping their teachers with different projects and is also working with teachers of students with severe learning disabilities to develop their mathematical skills. Her passion is helping students achieve their highest potential as well as helping them develop and achieve their individual learning goals. Sylvie is perfectly bilingual and has been tutoring students from grades 7 to 12 in all levels of mathematics and sciences (biology, physics or chemistry). She has also worked in developing practical strategies in evaluating student progress through Growing Success with the Ministry in mathematics and by integrating strategies from Dr Anne Davis’s Connect to Learning workshops. Sylvie is patient and understanding and loves working with young people to help them add strategies to their repertoire and achieve their goals.

 

 

 

 

Tina A.

Tina earned her degree in Elementary Education with an ESL endorsement from Northeastern Illinois University. She brings more than 20 years of teaching experience, having worked with students in grades 2–5 as well as Middle School English Language Arts across both public and private school environments.

With extensive classroom and tutoring experience, Tina understands that every student learns differently. She values differentiated instruction and tailors her approach to support each learner’s strengths and needs. Her focus is on creating a positive, encouraging space where students feel comfortable taking risks, building confidence, and achieving academic success.

Tina specializes in core general education subjects, including math, science, social studies, and reading/language arts. She is passionate about strengthening foundational skills while helping students develop curiosity, independence, and a lasting enthusiasm for learning.

When she’s not teaching, Tina enjoys spending quality time with her children, family, and friends. She loves staying active through exercise and Zumba, cooking and enjoying good food, caring for her dog and cat, and tending to her garden.

LAUCHLYN M.

Lauchlyn is an Elementary Generalist teacher who earned her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta. She has several years of teaching experience across a variety of elementary grade levels, including split classes and the development of individualized programming to meet diverse student needs.

Throughout her teaching career, Lauchlyn has worked with students with a wide range of learning profiles, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students learning English as an additional language. She is experienced in adapting instruction, differentiating materials, and implementing supportive strategies to ensure all learners feel successful, confident, and supported. She also brings strong classroom management skills, grounded in proactive, relationship-based practices that promote consistency, structure, and positive student behaviour.

While completing her degree, Lauchlyn gained valuable experience as a tutor and summer camp coordinator, supporting students in both one-on-one and small-group settings. This early experience strengthened her ability to assess student needs, provide targeted instruction, and build learner confidence.

Lauchlyn’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that strong, trusting relationships are the foundation of meaningful learning. She prioritizes creating safe, inclusive environments where students feel valued and understood, knowing that learning flourishes once connections are established. As a tutor, she is committed to meeting each child where they are and supporting both academic and social-emotional development through personalized, relationship-centered instruction.

Alanna D.

Alanna is an OCT‑certified educator and experienced tutor who brings over eight years of expertise in early childhood and elementary education to Prep Academy Tutors. With a Master of Arts in Child Study & Education (in progress at the University of Toronto) and a strong academic foundation in Early Childhood Studies, Alanna specializes in helping learners build self-confidence, independence, and a genuine love for learning.
Alanna has taught and supported students in a wide range of settings that go beyond the classroom. She excels at adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs—whether supporting language and literacy through phonemic awareness and multimodal learning or guiding individualized math instruction and supporting students to find their voice across areas of curriculum.

Her tutoring approach is warm, relational, and highly individualized. Drawing on her background as both an educator and a former private tutor, Alanna collaborates closely with families to create customized learning plans that honor each child’s strengths, interests, and developmental needs. She uses tools such as anecdotal notes, checklists, photos, and student work samples to track progress and ensure her instruction is responsive and meaningful.

Beyond her classroom and tutoring experience, Alanna has worked extensively in enrichment settings, including STEM‑based programming, creative arts learning, and physical activity programs. She is passionate about fostering confidence, curiosity, and resilience in every learner she works with.

In her free time Alanna is passionate about fitness, health and wellness. As a personal trainer she aspires to open a children’s gym for typically developing as well as neuro-divergent children in her future. Setare S.

Setare is an experienced mathematics tutor with eight years of one-on-one and small-group teaching across all grade levels. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics and Mathematics from University of Toronto and will begin her PhD in Biomedical Engineering in Fall. With a strong academic foundation in STEM, Setare helps students not only understand the material, but also develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative approaches to learning.

She has worked with students from Grades 1 through 12, tailoring her teaching to each student’s needs, learning style, and pace. Setare has experience supporting students with ADD, ADHD, and autism, and is deeply committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes.

Setare’s teaching philosophy is rooted in making challenging topics feel less intimidating and more enjoyable. She focuses on helping students recognize their strengths, build confidence, and reduce academic anxiety, believing that meaningful learning happens when students feel understood and capable.

Outside of teaching and research, Setare enjoys reading novels & poetry, exploring cozy art galleries and concerts, and spending quiet time cuddling with her adorable cat, Mayal.

 

Daniella R.

Daniella is an Ontario Certified Teacher and Registered Early Childhood Educator with over 15 years of teaching experience working with students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. She is certified in the Primary, Junior, and Intermediate divisions and has taught in public schools and early learning environments in Toronto, as well as in international school settings in England, China, and Vietnam. She has also held leadership roles within International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme schools, including PYP Coordinator.

Daniella holds a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and is a published author, experiences that have deepened her understanding of child development, literacy, and how students learn best across different stages of development. Through her work in diverse classrooms, she has developed a strong passion for inquiry-based learning and for supporting students as they build confidence, curiosity, and strong academic foundations.

She has taught a wide range of subjects, including Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and the Arts, and brings a strong understanding of the Ontario Curriculum and IB frameworks to her teaching. As a tutor, Daniella is known for her calm, patient, and supportive approach. She believes that every student can succeed when they feel understood and encouraged, and she works closely with learners to meet their individual needs while fostering independence, resilience, and a love of learning.

Daniella currently teaches in Toronto and continues to work with families seeking personalized, meaningful support for their child’s learning journey.

Leanna C.

Leanna is a Certified Teacher who grew up in Oakville, Ontario, and developed a passion for teaching through years of coaching tennis. While completing her undergraduate degree in Media, Information, and Technoculture at Western University, she competed on Western’s varsity tennis team, an experience that strengthened her leadership skills and love of mentorship. Through her time as both a player and now a coach, as well as her extensive coaching background, Leanna discovered that working with children, building their confidence, skills, and love of learning, was where she thrived most. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Education at Western University in the Primary/Junior division, graduating in June 2025. Through placements in a Grade 2/3 classroom at Bonaventure Meadows PS and a Grade 5/6 classroom at Wortley Road PS, Leanna gained valuable experience teaching across multiple grade levels and adapting to a wide range of learning styles. Her coaching background strongly shapes her teaching philosophy, emphasizing patience, encouragement, goal-setting, and meaningful student relationships.

 

SYDNEY V.

Sydney is completing her final year of the Master of Teaching program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and holds a Transitional Certificate with the Ontario College of Teachers. She is in the Primary/Junior stream and is qualified to teach Kindergarten through Grade 6. Sydney is confident in all subject areas but is particularly passionate about mathematics and literacy. Sydney has a flexible approach to tutoring, as she recognizes that every student has different interests and needs. Their teaching is grounded in their core values of community, play, and compassion. They recognize that connection is integral to student’s success, and they strive to develop positive relationships with students and their families. Outside of teaching, Sydney loves to swim, bake, and knit. In the summers, they work with students of all ages at a camp in Parry Sound.

JOSHUA L.

Joshua is a dedicated tutor who helps students build confidence and clarity in their learning. He specializes in math, science, and English, and has worked with students across multiple grade levels to strengthen core skills, improve academic performance, and develop effective study habits. Known for his patient and encouraging approach, Joshua adapts each lesson to the student’s individual learning style, making challenging topics easier to understand. Outside of tutoring, Joshua enjoys playing golf and traveling, and believes that learning is most successful when students feel supported, motivated, and curious.
