Heather has a Master’s of Teaching degree and is qualified to teach in Alberta and Ontario. She has over ten years of experience developing and educating youth through academics and play. She is patient, efficient, and always works to ensure students are understanding the material. She believes that it is important to foster a love of learning and looks forward to helping students grow as learners.

Alexandra V.

Alexandra has a B.A from the University of Waterloo, a M.A from Carleton University, and a B.Ed from Lakehead University. She completed her Master’s degree in Religious Studies. Alexandra has over 10 years of experience working with children and has been teaching for 3 years now. When she is not working, Alexandra enjoys reading National Geographic magazines and playing with her two golden retrievers.

JACKSON F.

Jackson is an Ontario Certified Teacher who currently teaches within the TDSB. Jackson recently obtained his Master of Teaching Degree from OISE, University of Toronto, with Straight A’s! Before this, he obtained a combined honors Bachelor’s Degree from Dalhousie University in Theatre (Acting) & Environment, Sustainability & Society, with a minor in Chinese Studies. Why Chinese? Because he was born and raised until age 15 in Hong Kong, and it’s a beautiful language! Why Nova Scotia for undergrad? Aaron M.

Aaron has been teaching for 10 years in a variety of contexts locally and internationally. He has a Master’s degree in Education and Child Studies and a TESL certificate from the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelors of Arts in Communication from Carleton University. He has spent 2 years teaching in private and public elementary schools and 8 teaching ESL in several contexts, including Canadian and South Korean language schools and Canadian colleges. He also has 8 years experience tutoring adults and children in English as a second language and on Ontario curriculum from Gr 1-9. His specialties are ESL, Gr. 1-8 science, English, social studies and history.

Nusra S.

Nusra did her undergraduate degree in English Language and English Language Teaching in Sri Lanka. She has more than 2 years of teaching experience in a formal school setting and 8 years of teaching experience as a private tutor where she has taught English Language, English Literature as well as English as a Second Language for students from Grade 4 up until Grade 12. During this time, Nusra has instructed students for the Pearson Edexcel Advanced Level and Ordinary Level in the subject of English Language and Literature. Nusra moved to Canada with her family 3 years ago where she completed her TESOL and ESL certification at ONTESOL Coventry House International from London, Ontario. Her love for teaching grows each day and that can be reflected in her academic and teaching journey, for she is now in her second year of the Master of Teaching program at OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) at the University of Toronto, training for the Junior/ Intermediate grade levels. In her spare time, Nusra enjoys spending time with her husband and two little boys, which involves making the most of the Canadian weather. While the cold winter days include tobogganing and snow fights the lovely summer months involve picnics in the park and swimming on the beach. Nusra’s teaching philosophy stems from her personal belief that love for learning can be fostered when there is a positive relationship between the teacher and the student in an energetic and autonomous learning environment, where the student’s voice is heard, cared for, and catered to.

Shelley M.

Shelley has been teaching in Ontario schools since 2005 in the Elementary and Secondary panels, as well as, Continuing Studies.  A graduate of the University of Toronto (B.A. English Literature) and D’Youville College (Master of Science in Education), she holds teaching certifications from Kindergartento Grade 12, with expertise in Language Arts and Intermediate/Senior English.

Shelley enjoys curriculum projects and educational research.  She as an interest in Special Education (Learning Disabilities) and Teaching English Language Learners.  She has done significant work preparing students for the O.S.S.L.T. grade 10 literacy test.  In 2010, Shelley received and Inclusion Excellence Award from Simcoe County Community Services for curriculum projects and inclusive practices in grade 9 and 10 classrooms.

Shelley aims to foster self-efficacy in all learners by supporting students as they build confidence throughout the learning process and self-confidence as young people striving to reach their academic and extra-curriculum goals.  She enjoys serving as an Assistant Coach for many school sports teams like Cross Country, Soccer, Hockey, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, and Volleyball.  In her youth, long distance endurance running was Shelley’s best sport, although she played many sports recreationally and enjoyed intramurals at University of Toronto earning her Minor & Major “M’s” for participation in athletics at St. Michael’s College (U of T)

Today, she models resiliency in life and learning.  Currently, Shelley is studying Adult Learner Dance, Nutrition and Visual Arts.  She lost her father 4 years ago, and through her grief journey she discovered Art Therapy (Waldorf Tradition).  Shelley incorporates Art into her daily activities of living.  She also hopes to achieve Yoga Teacher & Therapy designationssometime soon with a special interest in overcoming trauma.

An avid dog-lover, Shelley enjoys dogs and conversations about dogs with other dog-lovers.

Swaeta M.

EN: Swaeta is a student studying Computer Science at McGill University. She has graduated from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in pure and applied sciences. She is comfortable teaching in both English and French. She is able to cater to different teaching styles as she has experience tutoring in the past.

FR: Swaeta est étudiante en informatique à l’Université McGill. Elle est diplômée du Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf en sciences pures et appliquées. Elle est à l’aise d’enseigner en anglais et en français. Elle est capable de répondre à différents styles d’enseignement car elle a de l’expérience dans le tutorat dans le passé.

 

Meghan E.

Meghan received her Bachelor of Education degree from York University in 2018, and she now specializes in teaching students in the Primary-Junior grades. Meghan continues to look for new opportunities to grow as an educator by taking additional courses in Math, Writing, Special Education and staying up to date with new teaching practices and resources. She has also taught remedial reading programs and SSAT preparation courses. Meghan’s philosophy of education has evolved alongside the growth of our education system. She believes in the importance of student voice and creating learning environments where students feel safe and reflected in their learning. Outside of school Meghan enjoys spending time with her family. She enjoys traveling, reading, sports and assisting in community outreach. Whether it is as a teacher, coach, or mentor, Meghan has encompassed the role of an educator in many different settings and has enjoyed every moment. Her knowledge and training have allowed her to become an exceptional educator and valued member in her community.

SYLVIA C.

My goal is to help each student develop confidence in their ability to learn and to build new skills. I have an Educational Assistant diploma. I have experience working in a French Immersion school with a variety of learning levels and abilities as well with special needs. I have a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and a minor in History and am currently working towards a degree in Education.

Kaitlyn M.

Kaitlyn is currently an elementary teacher. She has her K-8 qualifications and has specialized in her ABQ of First Nation, Metis and Inuit studies. She graduated in 2018 from Bishop’s University with a BA of Sociology and English. Kaitlyn went on to work in Early Childhood Education at the YMCA, before following her dreams of becoming a teacher. She graduated from Ontario Tech University with a BEd in the primary and junior division, and has recently completed her intermediate division qualifications. Kaitlyn strives for the utmost success in all her students. She understands that each child is unique and has different ways of learning.
