MICHELLE L.

Michelle is a passionate educator with over 22 years of experience helping kids grow curious, creative, and confident. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia, and for the past 15 years, has taught Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 as a Science Specialist at an independent school in Toronto. Before that, she developed hands-on educational programs for camps, schools, and museums—including two science centres, an aquarium, and even a bug zoo (yes, she’s worked with a tarantula or two). Michelle enjoys building strong connections with her students and tailoring her approach to meet their individual learning styles and needs. She offers one-on-one tutoring across a range of subjects, with sessions that are engaging, personalized, and always encouraging – often with a dash of humour. (Why is 6 afraid of 7? Because 7, 8, 9!) She believes that one-on-one tutoring is a great way for students to practice skills, build confidence, and make meaningful progress.

MOSA A.

Mosa is an MRU Alumni, graduating from Mount Royal University with an English Degree. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Education at St. Mary’s University. He is also the author of two novels, which helps bring a more creative and engaging approach to learning. Mosa is also TEFL certified and has over two years of tutoring experience, helping both children and adults alike to develop their confidence and abilities to excel in their academic skills, most notably around English. Watching a student discover that “Oh” moment fuels his already strong passion for teaching.

Mosa’s teaching philosophy revolves around adapting to each and every student as he understands that what may work for one may not work for the other. He takes the time to know and understand each individual’s learning style so that he may create a supportive and personalized environment. He wants students to become confident and to take ownership of their learning journey.

During his free time, Mosa loves going for long walks, reading fantasy novels, and writing about any creative ideas that come to his mind.

Demiana F.

Demiana is a 23-year-old educator with a strong academic background in science and education. She studied Biology for four years and completed a two-year teacher education program at Teachers College in York University. During her training, she completed placements at Woodbine Middle School, Ellesmere Statton School and Willowdale Middle School, where she taught Grades 5 through 8 in the fields of Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and the Arts.

Her interest in teaching was sparked in Grade 8 by a teacher who recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a path she hadn’t seen in herself. That early inspiration continues to shape her passion for supporting students both academically and personally.

Demiana has worked with students with a wide range of learning needs, providing personalized accommodations to help each student thrive. She values inclusion and strives to make her classroom a space where every learner feels seen, supported, and challenged.

She also gained experience in early childhood education while working at a Montessori school with children from JK/SK to Grade 3. There, she incorporated hands-on activities, nature-based learning, and sensory play to foster curiosity and foundational skills.

Matthew Houk is a 28 year old substitute teacher in Saskatoon, SK. They graduated from the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan with honours and have a wide range of experiences in elementary classrooms (K-8) both in the city and in rural areas such as Hutterite Colonies. Matthew’s strengths as an educator are finding connections with students, connecting students interests/needs to learning, and using real-world scenarios to help students understand what they are learning. They feel that if learning has connections to reality it makes it easier for learners to understand it. When not teaching they enjoy painting, reading, playing tabletop games with friends, and camping.
