Deja P.
Deja has over five years of experience tutoring students of all abilities from grades one to eight. She specializes in teaching English and math at a primary/junior level. Deja is currently an ECE student at Seneca college. After graduation, Deja plans to continue on to completing teachers’ college and a master’s degree in education. Deja has worked at Early On daycare centre where she would help children develop their learning skills. She has also worked in after-school programs where she assisted students with homework and understanding concepts. Deja has taught English to primary students in Thailand. During her time working abroad, Deja constructed different activities and individual learning plans for students to help develop their confidence in speaking English. She loves to combine her love of travel with her passion for teaching.
Deja is passionate about helping her students grow academically. She believes all students are capable of success and uses different strategies to ensure that students can confidently understand their work.
JULIA S.
Julia is a passionate and enthusiast teacher. She a graduate of the Masters of Teaching at OISE. Julia is currently working with the TDSB as an occasional teacher. A Toronto native, Julia lived for seven years in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There she attended the University of King’s College and Dalhousie and graduated with First Class Honours in Theatre and English. Before pursuing her Masters, Julia worked in Theatre on both the administrative and creative side. Her favourite role was as director where she found immense joy in discovering the unique gifts and perspectives of every team member and fostering these gifts through collaboration and play. She finds this same joy in teaching; Julia loves the process of understanding her students and helping them see how they can extend their gifts to every subject. She rejects deficit-based thinking and believes academic growth is a matter of unlocking the inherent potential in each student. For her Masters, Julia is conducting research into successful and total inclusion of neurodivergent students and she is passionate about re-imagining how we support students with intellectual, developmental and learning disabilities.
DESIREE B.
Desiree has been an elementary school teacher for over twenty years. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Hofstra University and a Master’s degree in Reading from Lehman College. She began her career teaching in the New York City Public Schools and has spent the last 18 years working in Westchester County. She has taught first, second and third grades. As a general education teacher she has also worked in her district’s ICT (Integrated Co-Taught Classroom) model where she taught alongside Special Education teachers. This collaborative work has given her the unique ability to identify specific needs and offer students a variety of learning strategies and methods to help ensure student success. She is a member of her district’s English Language Arts Committee where she works with fellow teachers, reading specialists and district leaders on curriculum.
Desiree has been tutoring students throughout her career. She enjoys working individually with students and their families. She brings her years of experience, multiple learning strategies and a host of resources to each child she tutors. She enjoys nurturing relationships with her students and their parents. Working to meet individual needs is her ultimate goal.
RAEANNE M.
Raeanne is a passionate, caring and supportive teacher with a Bachelor of Education degree from Niagara University and a degree in Children Studies from York University. Through her courses, volunteer and teaching experiences, Raeanne has had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse learning strengths, styles, needs and cultures of children. From this experience, Raeanne has learned about the importance of creating learning opportunities that are adapted to all learners and using tailored learning approaches to help every child reach their full potential. Raeanne has experience planning and teaching units, lessons and activities to help all students develop strong literacy, numeracy and learning skills. Raeanne has spent time working collaboratively with associate teachers and early childhood educators to create safe and welcoming classroom environments with a focus on positive student behaviour, health and well-being. Raeanne also has experience working one-on-one with students and using a wide range of resources, materials and tools to meet the different individual learning needs of all students. Raeanne understands that every child learns differently and is dedicated to helping all students learn, grow and succeed.
RENEE D.
Renee is an Ontario Certified Teacher at the primary and junior level. She graduated with Honours from Guelph-Humber with her degree and diploma in Early Childhood Studies. She has several years of experience working with children through volunteering at a number of schools, working at a Montessori daycare, and previous tutoring opportunities. Currently Renee is an occasional teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, where she teaches classes from Kindergarten to grade 8.
Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching, positively impacts her students and makes her lessons engaging and fun that involves the interests of the children. She wants to provide students with tools and the ability to become strong and determined individuals knowing that they can achieve whatever their dreams may be. She is very patient, enthusiastic, motivational, and positive.
Renee is a life-long leaner and is always looking for new courses to take to increase her qualifications. She is currently taking a course qualifying her to teach intermediate grades.
Outside of teaching Renee loves cooking and trying new foods, traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and staying active.
HAYLEY C.
In 2019 Hayley graduated with a Bachelors of Education from Saint Francis Xavier University; later that year in July Hayley moved to Australia where she began to work as a substitute teacher. Hayley then moved on to receiving a full- time position teaching at a Special Education school up until April of 2021. Hayley is certified to teach primary aged students and has experience teaching and helping students with exceptionalities develop and learn. She plans on undergoing a training session on the Wilson Reading program and working closely with the Remedial Reading program. Hayley plans on getting her Master’s of Education in the next 2 years.
Hayley holds her standard First Aid & CPR. She also is certified in diabetes, epilepsy and anaphylaxis training. Hayley has a passion for working with kids and tutored for the last 2 years of her High School career at The Bishop Strachan School as a Peer Mentor. Hayley also tutored for a total of 5 years while she was in University completing both her degrees. Hayley is dedicated to helping all students succeed no matter the age or grade. Hayley is very patient, energetic and fun-loving!
WILLIAM T.
William is a current student at Mount Royal University in a Bachelor of Education-Elementary degree. William has tutored for a total of seven years. He is primarily working towards becoming a mathematics teacher but enjoys helping students forward in any aspect of their education.
William loves working with students in their pursuit of education. He is a patient listener and adaptive to the different learning styles that are prevalent in education today.
Preeti D.
Preeti is a graduate student, nearly completing her Master’s of Science degree at York University. She has had extensive experience working as a Teaching Assistant, teaching undergraduate students in biology courses. For example, she taught laboratory skills and theory, and has also guest-lectured in Microbiology. During her time as a Teaching Assistant, she held office hours. During this time, she worked one-on-one or in a small group with her students to assist them on course material and assignments. She has also volunteered as a mentor with children ages 9-12 with Future Possibilities. At this program, she mentored children on completing a goal to help their community.
Preeti’s teaching philosophy is simple: she believes that there is no singular method to optimally teaching a student. Each person learns in their own way–as a result, she makes it her personal goal to tailor her methods to each specific student. Preeti also considers herself to be a lifelong learner, thoroughly enjoying education and working with students.
In her spare time, Preeti likes to cook vegan food, spend time with her cat Chase (and any other animal she meets), do needlepoint embroidery, and play video games. Right now, she prefers PC gaming to console gaming!
JENNY N.
Jenny has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary, with a specialization in mathematics. She is passionate about helping others achieve their goals and finding different ways to create an enjoyable learning experience as she understands that everyone has a unique style of learning. She has over 5 years of tutoring experiences and is currently also working in the classrooms. Her overall experience with teaching allows her to better assess the best approach that engages and motivates her students, and helps build their confidence as learners. Outside of work, Jenny enjoys cooking, socializing, and spending time in nature.
