William L.

William is an OCT certified teacher at the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior division. He obtained his HBA from the University of Toronto, and his BEd from Queen’s University. He has over 12 years of teaching experience with public and private boards, as well as one on one tutoring. Currently, he specializes in assisting students with English related concepts and course work, including ENG1D, ENG2D, NBD3U, ENG3U, and ENG4U. William understands that the significance of establishing healthy writing habits requires not only practicing the mechanics, but also improving the organization and precision in conveying analysis with depth. Hence, William is able to assist your child in developing the necessary understanding and skill sets to write proper academic essays. Finally, William understands that every student has different needs and expectations, and he looks forward to working with his students to achieve academic success.

Roxanne H.

Roxanne is a licensed teacher with a bachelor’s degree in English, and a master’s degree in K-12 Reading and Writing.

Working with Roxanne, your child will crack the reading code, understand complex texts, and become an expert in writing structures. Best of all, they will love what they’re learning, and love THEMSELVES for it.

Roxanne’s reading curriculum integrates evidence-based components of dyslexia instruction with a practice that follows the standard Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence.

Tutoring includes skill-specific coaching, progress monitoring, homework support, and communication with the student’s classroom teacher.

Also, Roxanne has been honoring all forms of neurodiversity for fifteen years.

 

ABBEY J.

Abbey is a Teacher Candidate at the University of Toronto with a specialization in Junior/Intermediate English. She holds a Master of Arts degree from the Literatures of Modernity program at Toronto Metropolitan University, and earned her undergraduate degree from McMaster University with a major in English and Cultural Studies. It is through her volunteer work as an ELL tutor, her time as a Teaching Assistant in the English department at TMU, and her experience as a tutor with Paper that Abbey has fostered a love of teaching. Abbey has supported her students in reading comprehension, essay writing, citation practices, and improving grammar and punctuation. Abbey has also completed two practicum placements in the Toronto District School Board, where she has taught Junior/Intermediate Math, Science, English, and Social Studies. Abbey firmly believes that understanding her students is fundamental to effective teaching, and she invests time in building relationships to better cater to their individual needs, fostering growth and learning. In her spare time, Abbey is either sitting down with a good book, working on her next crochet project, or playing with her two orange cats.

ANNE R.

Anne has recently retired after 30 years teaching high school English for the York Catholic District School Board. For the last 18 years of her career, she was the English Department Head at St. Augustine Catholic High School in Markham. Anne is OCT qualified, has a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Drama from the University of Toronto, and a B.Ed. from Dalhousie University. Her area of expertise is intermediate and high school English, especially teaching writing, public speaking, study skills, and STEM-focused English. She wrote a textbook for the Grade 12 Writer’s Craft course; it is Ministry of Education-approved and used in a number of high schools in Ontario. She developed and taught an online grade 12 STEM English course for her school board, with a focus on teaching the mandatory English course to students who would be pursuing STEM courses in university. She has also helped students with study skills, presentation skills, prepping for university admission, as well as tutoring first-year university students in writing. Teaching is her passion, and over her career, Anne has enjoyed teaching hundreds of students as well as mentoring other teachers and presenting workshops for her school board on subjects such as storytelling, media, and using technology and STEM in the English classroom.

SOPHIE L.

Sophie is a passionate high school English and French teacher who strives to build positive relationships with her students to support their success. She grew up in Hamilton and completed her undergrad at McMaster University, doing a double major in French and English & Cultural Studies. Her love for travel took her on a year abroad in France during her third year, and for teachers college she went abroad to Cardiff, Wales. As a teacher, she is constantly looking to expand her experience and knowledge, such as completing a workshop in Digital Anti-Racism Education led by the Canadian Council of Muslim Women.

Philip D.

Philip is a qualified and certified teacher with a B.Ed from the University of Montreal. He is ESL certified, and has special education experience, with a focus on adolescents with learning disabilities following teaching and research internships at the McGill Learning Centre in Montreal. He has taught for public school boards in Quebec and Ontario and is currently teaching for two private secondary schools with international students where he has developed asynchronous online courses for ENG2D, ENG3U, ENG4U, OLC40 and AP English and Composition. As a media expert, he was also a producer-writer-director for TvOntario’s Distance Learning Department, The Learning Channel, Discovery Channel, and the National Geographic Channel.

FROHAR B.

Frohar is a certified teacher in Alberta and in British Columbia. She has obtained her bachelors in English from the University of Calgary, her bachelor’s in education from the University of British Columbia, and her Master’s in Education from the University of Ottawa.

Frohar has over 5 years of experience in tutoring. She enjoys tutoring because she loves to see the improvement and growth in her students. Frohar believes in catering her lesson plans to the different needs of different students for optimal results. This includes keeping in consideration different learning styles as well as teaching in multimodal methods so that the lessons are not monotonous.

When she is not teaching or tutoring, Frohar enjoys her time with her friends and family going on hikes or playing other sports.

Claudia Z

Claudia is a Registered Early Childhood Educator in Ontario where she graduated from Conestoga College in 2018 Kitchener campus. As such, she has 5+ years experience working as an RECE in various classrooms and age groups. Claudia is currently a team lead/ supervisor of a centre in Oakville, and is very excited to be a mentor for the educators within the centre. Additionally, she has studied psychology at the university of Guelph from 2012- 2016 and has received a Yoga and Mindfulness

LUKE L.

Luke is a certified teacher who has over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience. He specializes in both elementary and secondary English and through his years of teaching is able to support students in a variety of subjects. Luke has taught Business, Civics, History, Geography, and General Social Studies. He is also proficient in supporting English language learners and students with special education needs. Luke is a patient and encouraging educator with superb curriculum knowledge.

ANGELO K.

Angelo Kontos is enjoying a long and rewarding career in education. Angelo has worked in a variety of roles for over twenty years, including being a Global Studies and English teacher, and curricular head. After gaining several years of experience teaching and developing courses, Angelo realized how important it was to a school to have passionate and caring vice-principals and principals, so he made a rewarding transition into administration and works as a secondary school principal with the Peel District School Board. He thrives on the daily challenges of leading a busy high school and the energy of his students. Angelo is a passionate learner, and often says the best school leaders always think of themselves as teachers first. Before completing his teaching certification, Angelo earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours Degree with York University. Over the years Angelo has added several qualifications to his professional practice, including specialists in Writing and Contemporary Studies. Angelo loves writing and he recently self-published a novel called The Tournament. In his spare time, when he is not writing, Angelo is reading, exercising, or taking his adorable but highly sensitive dog for walks.
