Jiyeon I.

EN: Ms. Jiyeon is pursuing her Bachelor of Education in French Immersion Kindergarten and Elementary Education at McGill University.
Ms. Jiyeon will be entering her 4th year into the program and embark on her third student teacher placement this fall 2024.

Ms. Jiyeon has taught French as a second language for students aged 5 through 12 with diverse cultural and linguistical backgrounds, along with various elementary subject matters at the French Immersion schools in Montréal during the past two years. Ms. Jiyeon believes in connection before curriculum, meaning that a relation must be built between the student and the teacher, in order for learning to occur.

When Ms. Jiyeon is not teaching, she likes to write, meditate, hike, and venture through the many bookstores and the beautiful landscapes of Montréal!

FR: Mme Jiyeon poursuit son baccalauréat en éducation en immersion française pour la maternelle et l’enseignement élémentaire à l’Université McGill. Mme Jiyeon entamera sa quatrième année dans le programme et débutera son troisième stage d’enseignement à l’automne 2024.

Mme Jiyeon a enseigné le français langue seconde à des élèves âgés de 5 à 12 ans, issus de divers horizons culturels et linguistiques, ainsi que diverses matières au niveau élémentaire dans les écoles d’immersion française de Montréal au cours des deux dernières années. Mme Jiyeon croit en l’importance de la connexion avant le programme, c’est-à-dire qu’une relation doit être établie entre l’élève et l’enseignant pour que l’apprentissage ait lieu.

Lorsque Mme Jiyeon n’enseigne pas, elle aime écrire, méditer, faire de la randonnée et explorer les nombreuses librairies et les magnifiques paysages de Montréal !

DJOHRA B .

Djohra is an accomplished academic with a solid foundation in economics and applied statistics, currently pursuing a PhD at the National School of Statistics and Applied Economics in Algiers, Algeria. She holds a Master’s degree in Actuarial Studies in Social Security and another in Quantitative Finance. Additionally, she has an Engineer degree in Statistics in Finance and Actuarial Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in Planning and Statistics.

Djohra’s expertise spans macroeconomic analysis, financial programming, and advanced statistical methods. Her proficiency with software tools like Microsoft Office, Stata, and Eviews enhances her analytical capabilities. She is multilingual, fluent in French and Arabic.

Professionally, Djohra has a rich teaching background, having served as a Professor of Statistics and Probabilities in Algiers for two years. Her research credentials are equally impressive, with significant contributions as a Research Assistant in the Applied Statistics Laboratory (LASAP) and as a member of the Research Team for University Training Research Projects (PRFU), where she focused on the pension system in Algeria.

Djohra’s commitment to advancing knowledge in her field is evident through her active participation in academic conferences and workshops related to finance, statistics, and economics. Her diverse skill set and academic achievements make her a valuable asset to the academic community.

Andrea T.

EN: Andrea has a Bachelor’s Degree in High School English Education from McGill University. She has also completed her Master’s in Teaching and Learning from the University of Ottawa. She has four years of teaching and tutoring experience including ESL and loves being able to connect with students. Andrea completed her education in French and is bilingual in French and English.

FR: Andrea est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en éducation en anglais au secondaire de l’Université McGill. Elle a également complété sa maîtrise en enseignement et apprentissage à l’Université d’Ottawa. Elle a quatre ans d’expérience en enseignement et en tutorat et adore pouvoir se connecter avec les élèves. Andrea a complété ses études en français et est bilingue en français et en anglais.

ABIR N.

Abir is an international teacher and native French speaker. She holds a Masters in Molecular Biology and a Bachelors degree in Medical Biotech and has had more than 6 years teaching experience at the Lycée Francais in Jeddah where she taught High School Biology & French. It was while she was overseas teaching that she discovered her passion for teaching and working with children. She is currently pursuing her teaching degree in Ontario at the University of Ontario Francais and will be an Ontario Certified teacher very soon. Abir loves teaching French using a conversational approach, engaging activities and workshops. During the summer months she runs a Science Camp that encourages children to learn about science using interactive and hands-on experiences. As a tutor, Abir works one/one with students of all ages and helps them improve their reading/writing, vocabulary and math skills. She believes that by building strong relationships with her students, she is better able to meet their needs and help them develop a love of learning.

Sandi M.

Sandi Mustard is a Certified Teacher. She grew up in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, moving to Vancouver to complete an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology. As well, she completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Arts Education. Most recently, she completed a Masters of Education (Innovations in Maths Education). Sandi has a lifelong passion for working with children, beginning at a young age. She loved volunteer babysitting for mothers’ meetings in her teens and led arts-based summer day camps during her undergraduate degree. She joined the world of education as a Certified Education Assistant, working extensively with students with autism and other developmental disabilities. She has also taught English in Thailand, where she hit the beach every day after work. In 2009, Sandi returned to UBC to complete a Bachelor of Education, and has been joyously teaching ever since. She is passionate about supporting the improvement of reading, writing, vocabulary and math skills. Sandi knows that by building a strong relationship with her students she is better able to meet their needs and grow their learning. She engages students using their curiosity and interests to help them gain the confidence they require to succeed. In her leisure time, Sandi enjoys hiking and backpacking and anything on or in the water. You can often find her at or near Okanagan Lake, swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking or boating. And if she’s not there, she’s up in the hills! Sandi looks forward to supporting your child, teaching in a way that guides them towards their fullest potential.

Catherine H.

Cath is qualified in Intermediate/Senior French, Intermediate Math, Health & Physical Education and Guidance. She has 20+ years of experience teaching in the Toronto District School Board. Cath taught for 15 years at Lawrence Park, which is a French Immersion school. She is known for helping students find their passion for learning and caring for their overall well-being. Cath focuses on making her tutoring sessions engaging and positive experiences so that they can achieve their best. Her own children, Oliver and Sarah are twins and are in high school and she understands what challenges youth face today. In my free time, she enjoys walking my dog, cycling, travelling, reading and playing games with her family.

Hello! I’m Rocchetta, a retired Ontario Certified Elementary Teacher with over 25 years of experience in teaching and tutoring. Specializing in grades 1 to 6, I am passionate about fostering a love for reading and lifelong learning in my students. I believe that effective communication, both verbal and written, is key to student success.

Teamwork is at the heart of my approach; I work closely with parents and teachers to ensure the best outcomes for each child. When I’m not tutoring, I enjoy travelling, reading, and staying active with Zumba. I look forward to the opportunity to support your child’s educational journey.

 

 

 

Zoë M.

Zoë graduated magna cum laude from the University of Toronto, specializing in research psychology and minoring in English.
They graduated from York University with an MA in critical psychology, their thesis focusing on accessibility in undergraduate education.

Zoë’s passion is teaching and learning, and they have expertise in a variety of subjects. Most notably, they have been an SAT tutor for over ten years — tutoring 1-1, teaching intensive courses, designing lesson plans and curricula, training other instructors, and even writing an SAT Teacher’s Manual, which was sold to various test prep and tutoring companies, and which they still update yearly for personal use.

Zoë’s teaching style is reflexive, engaging, agile, and learner-centred, informed by their extensive knowledge of psychology and pedagogy, and enriched by their confidence in every student’s ability to succeed when given the right tools.

CLAIRE R.

Claire has a BA with a French literature major from U of Calgary and is in her last year of the BEd program at St Mary’s University. She is a New Brunswick native who moved to Calgary when she was 3 and learned English at school. She has taught numerous adults in Continuing Education at Mount Royal College and in the Corporate sector and is returning to her first love, teaching children. She has a passion for reading and writing as well as studying, in her spare time, history, governments, and citizenship. By her bedside you’ll currently find books by Charles Dickens, Thomas Sowell, a random book on the American revolution (it’s better than it sounds) and her favorite dog Tessa. Her husband and 2 boys are into hockey, so obviously, the TV is always on during Stanley Cup finals.

 

 

Shaylee C.

Shaylee Chen is a dedicated and passionate educator with a B.A. in Education, Communities, and Organizations (ECO) from the University of Washington. She is currently pursuing her M.S. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. Having grown up in various countries and immersed in diverse cultures, Shaylee has cultivated a profound appreciation for multiculturalism and linguistic diversity. This international background has not only refined her mastery of Mandarin Chinese but also developed her fluency in French. Her global upbringing enriches her teaching with a unique and inclusive perspective. With three years of experience in multilingual teaching environments, Shaylee possesses the skills necessary to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds. Her commitment to fostering engaging, personalized lessons, is driven by her belief that curiosity and interest are key to student success. Shaylee is eager to bring her expertise and passion for education to new opportunities and make a positive impact on the lives of her students. Outside of her professional and academic endeavors, Shaylee enjoys exploring new cultures, playing billiards, and swimming.
