The first time I realized teaching was my destiny was when I was a junior at Billings Senior High School in Billings, Montana, and I was given the opportunity to direct a Saturday Night Live format talent show. I’ve been hooked ever since.

I have four higher education degrees: a Bachelor of Education from the University of Wyoming, a Master of Music (with distinction) from the New England Conservatory of Music, a second Master of Music (opera production) from the University of Washington, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Washington.

I am a big fan of teaching through open-ended questions (the Socratic Method) because it transforms learning from a one-way dissemination of information into an engaging series of questions that students use to discover the answers for themselves — which promotes the acquisition of knowledge.

When I am not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy the Colorado backcountry, especially stargazing and hiking. I also love getting lost in researching such diverse topics as marine biology, paleontology, organometallic chemistry, and science fiction.

Sydney E.

EN: Sydney is a final-year pharmacy student with a passion for science and education. Through her daily interactions with patients, she has developed strong communication skills and enjoys making complex scientific concepts easy to understand. She is committed to helping students build confidence in science while fostering effective study habits and a lifelong love of learning. Outside of her studies, Sydney enjoys running, swimming, and painting.

FR: Sydney est étudiante de pharmacie en dernière année, avec une passion pour les sciences et l’éducation. Grâce à ses interactions quotidiennes avec les patients, elle a développé de solides compétences en communication et aime rendre les concepts scientifiques complexes faciles à comprendre. Elle est dédiée à aider les élèves à avoir de la confiance en eux même en science tout en développant de bonnes habitudes d’étude. En dehors de ses études, Sydney aime la course à pied, la natation et la peinture.

Stephen S.

EN: Stephen is an undergraduate student in Mining Engineering at McGill University with a strong academic background and a passion for helping students build confidence in their learning. A graduate of Marianopolis College’s Pure and Applied Science program and a Dean’s List recipient, he tutors mathematics, science, chemistry, and French to elementary and high school students in both English and French.

Stephen has experience working with elementary and high school students, helping them strengthen their understanding of key concepts while also developing the habits needed for long-term academic success. His teaching approach is patient, structured, and encouraging, with an emphasis on helping students improve not only their subject knowledge, but also their study habits, organization, discipline, and self-confidence.

Through his studies in a rigorous science program and now in engineering, Stephen has developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills that he brings to every tutoring session. He believes that effective tutoring goes beyond simply explaining material: it also involves helping students learn how to approach challenges independently, stay organized, and build the confidence needed to succeed in school.

Stephen is committed to making learning clear, engaging, and accessible, and to creating a supportive environment where each student can progress at their own pace and develop the skills needed for lasting academic success.

FR: Stephen est étudiant de premier cycle en génie minier à l’Université McGill et possède un solide parcours académique ainsi qu’un réel intérêt pour l’accompagnement des élèves dans leur réussite scolaire. Diplômé du programme Sciences pures et appliquées du Collège Marianopolis et récipiendaire du tableau d’honneur du doyen, il offre du tutorat en mathématiques, en sciences, en chimie et en français auprès d’élèves du primaire et du secondaire, en anglais comme en français.

Stephen a de l’expérience auprès d’élèves du primaire et du secondaire, qu’il aide à renforcer leur compréhension des concepts clés tout en développant de bonnes habitudes de travail essentielles à la réussite à long terme. Son approche pédagogique est patiente, structurée et encourageante, avec une attention particulière portée non seulement à la maîtrise des matières, mais aussi à l’organisation, à la discipline, aux méthodes de travail et à la confiance en soi.

Grâce à son parcours dans un programme scientifique exigeant et maintenant en génie, Stephen a développé de fortes compétences en analyse et en résolution de problèmes qu’il applique dans ses séances de tutorat. Il croit qu’un bon tutorat ne consiste pas seulement à expliquer la matière, mais aussi à aider les élèves à devenir plus autonomes, à mieux s’organiser et à développer la confiance nécessaire pour réussir à l’école.

Stephen s’engage à rendre l’apprentissage clair, stimulant et accessible, tout en créant un environnement d’apprentissage bienveillant où chaque élève peut progresser à son rythme et développer les compétences nécessaires à sa réussite scolaire à long terme.

FR: Nour a complété toutes ses études à Montréal et est très familière avec le système d’éducation québécois. Elle a gradué première de son école au primaire et au secondaire, et a été championne de son école trois années d’affilée au concours de mathématiques de l’Université de Waterloo. Lauréate de la bourse d’excellence Desjardins en Sciences de la nature au Cégep Bois-de-Boulogne ainsi que de la Médaille académique du Gouverneur général (bronze), elle a obtenu la cote R la plus élevée de sa cohorte. Nour étudie actuellement en médecine à l’McGill University.

EN: Nour completed all of her studies in Montreal and is very familiar with the Quebec education system. She graduated first in her class in both elementary and high school and was her school’s champion in the University of Waterloo Mathematics Competition for three consecutive years. A recipient of the Desjardins Excellence Scholarship in Natural Sciences at CEGEP Bois-de-Boulogne and the Governor General’s Special Bronze Academic Medal, she achieved the highest R-score in her cohort. Nour is currently studying medicine at McGill University.
