Cherisse L.
Cherisse is a warm, friendly and adaptable educator who believes in meeting students exactly where they are. She understands that every child learns and sees the world in their own unique way, and she is committed to creating a space where students feel supported, heard, and encouraged to grow. Cherisse sees teaching as a two-way experience — one where she learns just as much from her students as they do from her. She graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and has since developed a deep passion for working with young learners. Her journey into education began in Canada, where she discovered her love for teaching while working as a ski instructor at Silver Star Mountain. In her spare time, Cherisse enjoys hiking, reading, playing tennis, and spending time with friends and family.
Zachary M.
Zachary M. is presently in his last year of his study for his dual masters in math and physics at UTSA. Some may say that in doing so, he is trying to prolong his adolescence and avoid adulthood. But truth be told, Zach is very passionate about his studies. This was not always the case. Admittedly, Zach was mathematically challenged in middle school (his mom would help him with his algebra homework). But something clicked for him in high school. He took every AP math and science class that he could and went so far as to participate in academic UIL. After graduation from high school, Zach began studying math and physics at UTSA. He took up a job as a physics tutor on a whim but came to discover that he really enjoys helping people learn. Now as a graduate student, Zach teaches introductory physics labs. In doing so, he does his best to accommodate all of his students while simultaneously emphasizing the mathematical and theoretical underpinnings of physics.

She has tutored both middle and high school students for homework help, to pass ACT/SAT, PSAT, CLT, and the HESI Nursing Exam. She is very patient and nonjudgmental. It makes her happy when a student finally “gets it” understands a concept they couldn’t previously.
Outside of school, Tammy enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach and reading.
Kristine K.
Kristine is a Certified Teacher with more than 30 years’ experience both in the classroom and as a tutor. She graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Math Education. Kristine spent most of the 30 years in Jefferson Parish Public School System high schools teaching everything from remedial through honors math classes and taught 5th grade for 3 years. She loves one-on-one work, as it allows the time for her to verify the student’s strengths and weaknesses to focus on areas where improvement is needed. She uses topics that interest each student for a more personal and engaging learning experience. As a tutor, Kristine is very dedicated to using methods that each student can learn from. She also believes in frequent communication with parents as part of the learning team. She believes that laughter is an essential part of learning and considers all questions to be important.

Vania G.
Vania Gulston has more than 20 years of experience in the field of education. She holds Pennsylvania certifications in secondary mathematics and social studies; and has masters degrees in education, history and folklore, performance studies, and technology design from the University of California at Berkeley, Temple University, and New York University, respectively.
Her teaching practice has been shaped by her love of radio. She became a social studies teacher in order to extend the work of helping to broaden people’s understanding of their social world that she did as a community radio broadcaster. She pursued a degree in technology design because she wanted to equip herself with the technical skills necessary to operate the broadcast equipment of a radio station. As well, she pursued graduate studies in tech design because, after experiencing obstacles in her efforts to increase her technical knowledge, she wanted to be able to offer that same technical knowledge to women and people of color who sought it.
She is the founder of WJYN Radio–a low power fm radio station in Philadelphia
