Peter K. (Guelph)
Peter is a Fifth year Biochemical Engineering student at the university of Guelph. He has a very strong background in math chemistry, physics, biology and other specific engineering courses. His current specialty is in microbiology, engineering and food science. He strives to bring a clear and structured approach to students that may be struggling with their first year courses. He understands that the transition from high school to first-year university can be because he went through those same challenges. His goal as a tutor is to provide a positive learning environment where the student is able to excel in their coursework and achieve the success they are capable of.
Connor S.
Connor is a Certified Teacher. He grew up in Barrie, moving to St. Catharines to complete an Undergraduate Degree in Education with a dual-degree in Mathematics and Physical Education. As well, he completed a Post Graduate Diploma and became a Professional Master of Education, from Queens University. Connor grew up with a deep love of teaching others about various information and providing others with knowledge. Connor discovered his passion for teaching as a young child, and a passion for working with children. Through teaching, Connor has been able to foster his love of Mathematics. During the summer months, Connor volunteers at a summer camp in Muskoka, and teaches a Summer School eLearning Mathematics course. Connor works one-on-one with children as young as 10 years old, through to adulthood. He has supported improving their mathematical reasoning, writing, vocabulary and sincerely believes in every child’s ability to reach their full potential. Connor believes that by building a solid relationship with his students, he can better meet their needs and grow their learning. As a mentor, Connor continues to develop strategies for working with children. He finds these experiences enjoyable and extremely rewarding.
Ryan C.
With 16 years of classroom experience, Ryan has taught math at nearly every level from 6th grade through AP Calculus BC. Holding both a Bachelor’s in Math and a Master’s in Education, he specializes in spotting where students get stuck and helping them build real confidence ahead of major tests and AP exams. Known for being a supportive “smart friend” in sessions, Ryan uses visual tools like Desmos to help make abstract topics make sense without all the stress, and uses humor to make difficult situations more approachable. Outside of teaching, Ryan stays active outdoors playing pickleball, going on runs, and enjoying puzzles.
Ju S.
Ju graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering from Caltech, a MS in Material Science and Engineering from Northwestern University, and a PhD in Material Science and Engineering from UCSD. She has gained extensive mentoring and tutoring experience during her studies. Ju recognizes that each student is different and aims to develop an individualized teaching plan for each one, starting with understanding their academic baselines, learning styles, and personal interests. Ju is excited to improve the students’ critical thinking skills, encourage their curiosity in the subject, and develop new learning strategies during her sessions.
In her spare time, Ju enjoys going to the movies, listening to music and going to concerts, and hiking in Anza Borrego.
Joseph A.
Joseph is an experienced mathematics educator and tutor with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from North Carolina State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Mathematics at Nicholls University. With more than 10 years of tutoring experience and over 15 years of mentoring students, Joseph specializes in Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, and college-level mathematics. In addition to mathematics, he has tutored college-level Physics I and II and AP Chemistry, helping students strengthen their problem-solving skills and prepare for challenging coursework and examinations. Joseph has taught students from elementary school through college in both classroom and one-on-one settings and has taught Mathematics, English, and Physical Education in the United States and internationally. Through his work and teaching experiences in Uganda, Kuwait, Dubai, and other international settings, Joseph has developed extensive experience teaching English to students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. His teaching style emphasizes personalized instruction, building strong relationships with students, developing confidence, and making challenging concepts easier to understand through engaging, student-centered lessons. Joseph is also TEFL certified and brings a diverse background as a professional guitarist, martial artist, and karate black belt. In his spare time, he enjoys music, fitness, and finding creative ways to make learning both meaningful and enjoyable.
Cassie M.
Cassie is a retired Software Engineer who has taught robotics programming to 8th-12th grade students, and has instructed Computer Science courses at the University of Michigan. She earned a Biology minor while in college, and is passionate about subjects that relate to human health, such as Genetics, Anatomy, and Biochemistry.
She loves teaching any STEM subject, and believes that there are few better motivators than understanding and caring about real life applications. Her teaching style is flexible, encouraging, and patient, and she will notice and celebrate even the small wins. Each semester she signs up for at least one college course that catches her interest, and has lots of tips and tricks to share for learning and remembering new content.
In her free time, Cassie is learning Portuguese, and enjoys lifting weights, taking science classes, and playing board games with her friends.
Lisha T.
Lisha is an engaging and highly experienced mathematics educator with 30 years of teaching and tutoring expertise. She holds a B.S. in Mathematics (2000) from Georgia Southern University—where she was named “Tutor of the Year”—and has dedicated her career to helping students conquer their fear of everything from basic math to Calculus. Having taught in traditional high schools, private academies, and diverse home education environments, Lisha knows exactly how to adapt her style to meet every unique learner right where they are. She excels at preparing students for standardized tests and using technology while actively tracking down and filling hidden learning gaps. Above all, Lisha adores working with teens and lives for those rewarding “light bulb” moments when a difficult concept clicks. Lisha always jokes that English is actually her second language – she is fluent in math! When she is not busy breaking down equations, she stays active homeschooling her daughter, gardening, and keeping up with lots of kitchen chemistry experiments, though she secretly never stops organizing her world in spreadsheets.
Don B.
Donald is an experienced mathematics educator and tutor with more than 30 years of teaching experience. He holds a Bachelor of Education with a major in Secondary Mathematics from the University of Calgary and has taught mathematics from Grade 10 through university. He also brings four years of online tutoring experience.
Donald particularly enjoys working one-on-one with students and building strong rapport, taking the time to get to know them as both people and learners. He believes students learn best when they feel comfortable, understood, and supported, and enjoys bringing humour into his lessons to create a relaxed and positive learning environment.
Donald adapts his teaching to how each student learns best and is especially passionate about helping students who have lost confidence in mathematics recognize what they are capable of. He focuses on understanding rather than memorization, helping students become confident, independent problem-solvers. Whether a student is catching up, preparing for an exam, or looking for a greater challenge, Donald enjoys finding the explanation that makes the mathematics finally “click.”
Donald lives on Texada Island and tutors students online. Outside of teaching, he is a pilot with a long-standing interest in aviation and is currently learning to sail. After more than 30 years in education, he still gets a genuine thrill when a student suddenly says, “Oh, now I get it!”
Jessica E.
Jessica Eaton has been a math educator for the last 16 years. She is a certified math teacher with a Masters in Education from University of California San Diego who taught middle and high school math for 10 years, then left the classroom in 2021 to start private tutoring to get the chance to work with students one on one. She is very passionate about math education, and loves getting the opportunity to help students see that math can be easy and fun, not scary and difficult like many people assume it is. She has a laid back, easygoing approach to math that focuses on helping students see their own math capabilities and improving their confidence in their math skills. She focuses on creating a comfortable environment for students to ask their questions and work through their challenges, and on helping students understand the “why” behind what they’re learning and doing to encourage deeper understanding and retention. She loves connecting with her students and watching their confidence and skills grow, and she looks forward to helping your student enjoy math.
Courtney M.
Courtney is currently pursuing her degree in Elementary Education and has always enjoyed working with children and helping them learn. She has experience as both a paraeducator and a nanny, which has given her the opportunity to work with children of different ages, personalities, and learning styles. Through these experiences, she has learned how important patience, encouragement, and building a good relationship with a student can be. Courtney is someone who wants her students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes because she believes that is an important part of learning.
Courtney especially enjoys helping students with elementary school subjects and middle school math by finding different ways to explain a concept when something doesn’t make sense the first time. She understands that every student learns differently, and she is willing to slow down, try a new approach, and work at the student’s pace. Her goal is not only to help students improve their grades but also to help them feel more confident in their abilities.
When she isn’t working or studying, Courtney enjoys reading, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. She considers herself a friendly, caring, and dependable person and loves getting to know the children she works with. She hopes to make tutoring a positive experience where students can learn, feel supported, and have a little fun along the way while growing in confidence and working toward success.
