Isabel C.

EN: Isabel is a literary translator and graduate student in Littérature comparée (Comparative Literature) at l’Université de Montréal. She has an undergraduate degree in Contemporary Philosophy and German Studies, with a minor in French Literature from the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University.

She has worked as a teacher in both high school and elementary schools in English and French classes. As a tutor, Isabel prioritizes helping her students to nurture their creativity, curiosity, sense of determination and organizational skills.

Isabel is passionate about literature, film, history and art. In her spare time, she is learning metal-working.

STEPHEN N.

Stephen is an Ontario Certified Teacher, with an undergraduate degree in History and Sociology from Queen’s University, a Masters in Teaching from the University of Toronto, and a Masters of Education from the University of Vancouver Island. Born in Toronto, Stephen grew up in Peterborough, and after completing his teacher education spent six years living and teaching high school History and Law in British Columbia. He considers teaching an incredible profession for the connections and bonds he’s made, and the ability to help his students both academically and with exploring their aspirations for the future. This mindset has pushed him to meet people from all over the world, and fostered a love of travelling to learn more about other cultures and their day-to-day experiences. Having taught professionally in Canada and South Korea, Stephen has experience in supporting his students with all forms of academia, specializing in essay-writing, persuasive vocabulary, and writing in the third-person. Ines has a Master Degree in Marketing and has a Bachelor degree in Education. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher with 10 years of teaching experience. Ines is a native french who teaches maths, sciences and french at a public elementary school. Additionally, she completed an AQ (additional qualification) in Special Education. She has a strong experience working with students with special needs (Autistic spectrum, TDAH, learning disabilities, dyslexia, dyscalculia …).
Ines has a true passion for helping students grow and reach their full potential, she is committed to working with them in a personalized manner to help them achieve their goals.

ABDULAHI A.

Abdulahi has been quite the globetrotter from an early age. He was born in Mogadishu, Somalia; raised in Chicago, America; socialized and educated in Toronto-Windsor, Canada, which he now refers to as home. To date, Abdulahi has lived in five different countries (America, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates) and traveled to 55 others.

Abdulahi received an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science and Environmental Science, and also a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor. Additionally, he completed many international language certificates. Prior to making the transition back to Canada, Abdulahi taught internationally at prestigious private schools for nearly a decade. These schools followed the Ontario, Alberta and IB curricula and framework.

As an extremely passionate educator, Abdulahi’s teaching experiences have helped him refine a personal teaching philosophy and pedagogy in education that combines the importance of inclusion within the classroom, ongoing feedback, respect, and creating meaningful student-centered lessons. Abdulahi’s defining characteristic as an educator revolves around the joy, pleasure and passion that he receives from teaching beyond the required curriculum. He branches off into various learning atmospheres by becoming actively involved in the development of the whole child. The ‘light bulb!’ moment in students and seeing everything begin to click for them provides him with an immense pleasure and continuously drives his passion and pedagogy as an educator. Tim K.

Tim K. is a Junior and Intermediate certified teacher. He graduated with a Marketing Degree from UOIT, Bachelor of Arts from Trent University and Master’s Degree in Science (MSc) from D’Youville University. Since graduating, he has taught for the past 16 years and continued to enrich his understanding through courses in special education, completing his work as a specialist.
Tim has had several years of private tutoring experience where he customizes the lessons to accommodate the diverse needs of the learner, all while providing a fun and engaging learning environment for everyone. In his leisure time, Tim is an avid chess player, coach and weightlifter.

 

 

Howard S.

Howard is an experienced educator having worked in secondary and post-secondary as a tutor, tutorial, and seminar leader. He’s currently finishing his PhD at York University and teaches social science and writing courses at Seneca College. Howard has tutored extensively in a variety of subjects including social science, humanities, business, and research writing. He specializes in helping students set goals and develop strategies to improve their writing and studying skills. With more than 15 years working in education and the private sector, Howard has been able to support students as they develop their academic and professional skills.

After completing a diploma in Liberal Arts at Seneca College, Howard went on to study Anthropology and History at York University, where he also received a Bachelor of Education (Intermediate Senior/Highschool Teaching). He then completed a Master of Arts at Guelph University, specializing in Public Issues Anthropology and Applied Sociology. He has also completed certificates and training in research ethics, teaching with technology, tutor training, as well as extensive training and experience working with students with unique learning needs. Howard also enjoys mentoring students and young professionals as they embark on their transition from school to work.

 

Chris S.

Chris graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Political Science and Asian Studies in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Education. He has taught in public education for more than two decades, with considerable experience in the gifted and Advanced Placement (AP) programs. He most recently completed the post-graduate fiction writing program at the Humber School for Writers, working directly under David Bezmozgis. He also has a specialist qualification in Special Education.

 

Lia L.

Lia graduated from the Sciences Po Paris & University of British Columbia Dual Degree program (B.A.), majoring in Politics & Government and International Relations. She is currently a student in McGill’s Faculty of Law’s B.C.L./J.D. program.

Throughout her multidisciplinary experience, Lia has gained extensive knowledge in History, Political Science, Philosophy, and English Language. She also previously worked as an Academic Consultant in Vancouver with experience in interview coaching and supporting personal statement writing and experiential skills. Coupled with Lia’s expansive extracurricular involvement in her student experience, she is equipped to provide insight on creating holistic student resumes for competitive school applications.

Further, Lia has tutored students ranging from Pre-K to University levels and is able to quickly build a strong rapport with her students!

SAM N.

Sam has been an educator for over 10 years with public, private and international experience. Sam completed the concurrent education program at York University in 2014, where he taught and tutored middle and high school students for two years. Upon graduation, Sam moved to England for two years where he taught in the public school system. After returning to Canada in 2016, Sam began working in the international private school system. He currently works at Willowdale High School, where he has been since 2018. Initially the lead English teacher, Sam has now taken on larger responsibilities in an administrative role within the school. Although his specialty is Intermediate an Senior English, Sam has experience teaching history, geography and social sciences. Sam currently develops courses in his administrative role, most recently developing courses for Canadian Geography and Nutrition & Health.
In his spare time, Sam enjoys reading, films, martial arts (he is an avid practitioner of eskrima), plays ball hockey and is also a long-distance runner.
