LAXSHAA N.

Dr. Laxshaa Nadpurajah is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in education, data analysis, digital content management, fitness, and nutrition. She holds a Doctorate in Business Administration; a Master of Education, specializing in Assessment & Evaluation; and a Master of Management Analytics, both from Queen’s University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology and Criminal Justice & Public Policy from the University of Guelph.

ANNABELLE K.

Annabelle is an Ontario Certified Teacher with a Transitional Certificate as she works towards completing her final year of the Master of Teaching program at OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education). In her studies at OISE, Annabelle has been exploring accessibility through gamification and how to best ensure students are engaged and ready to learn in the classroom. Through her placements, Annabelle has had amazing opportunities to work closely with students to meet their various learning needs, including providing students with one on one support. Annabelle has always been passionate about education both inside and out of the classroom as seen through her work in museums. Before entering the classroom, Annabelle received her Master of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Information. Annabelle’s museum work centred around making history accessible and engaging to students through creating interactive and informative exhibits, and school programming for students from Grades 3 through 12. Its her passion for history and the humanities that have led her to teaching and she is excited to share this passion with her students. Annabelle has been working with kids for as long as she remembers, growing up as a camp councilor and teaching karate, always looking for ways to make learning fun. In her spare time, Annabelle practices her karate as much as she can and is always looking for a new video game to play!

STEPHEN C.

Stephen Carter has a BA, MA and PhD (ABD) in English literature. He was a University Teaching Assistant for five years at two Canadian universities, and he has taught and tutored elementary, high school, and college/university students for over ten years. As a teacher, Stephen helps students cultivate a love for learning, achieve academic success, and develop advanced skills in reading, writing, analysis, critical thinking and speaking.

Nazia M.

Nazia Mahmood holds a Master’s of Teaching degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, where she also completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree. Over the last five years, she has worked alongside students from both primary and secondary schools in both English and Social Science subjects. Her extensive experience encompasses work in community centers, private tutoring, and online synchronous tutoring, where she has meticulously developed individualized lesson plans to address the unique academic goals of each student.

Nazia’s pedagogical approach is rooted in Culturally Responsive and Relevant teaching methods, as well as the principles of Universal Design for Learning. These frameworks ensure that her instruction is inclusive and adaptable, catering to the diverse needs of her students. Throughout her practicum experiences in her Master’s program, Nazia taught both Social Science and English subjects, working in both group settings as well as one-on-one work sessions.

Nazia is deeply passionate about her students’ well-being and academic growth. Her commitment to fostering academic success is driven by her genuine care for each student’s individual journey. Nazia’s dedication extends beyond academics; she is dedicated to creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment where students feel valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

Rayan B.

Rayan is currently in teachers college and in the process of completing his Grades 7 – 12 teaching certification at York University with English and Dramatic Arts as his declared teachable subjects.

In the past, Rayan has excelled in his time working at Kumon as a Math and Reading Tutor where he taught learners in pre-school and Grades 1 – 6 and successfully helped them improve their foundational literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy skills (basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Outside of school and work, Rayan has also volunteered at the Christian Centre Church’s after school homework club, and Inner City Outreach. Here he helped at-risk Grades 6 – 8 children from the Jane and Finch area gain both the skills and confidence that they needed to perform at their very best, across a variety of different academic subjects.

When he is not busy tutoring his super cool Prep Academy students, Rayan loves to watch movies and shows (he’s a big into cinema), read comic books (he’s also an unapologetic geek) and play chess and poker (not very well though).

Julia G.

Julia is a teacher candidate at York University’s concurrent education program. She aims to teach the Intermediate/Senior age groups when she graduates from university. She completed her undergrad at York University with a major in theatre and a minor in history. Julia has gained most of her teaching experience through working with different age groups at daycares and previous tutoring opportunities. Prior to university, Julia has tutored different subject matters including english, geography, history, and the arts.

Aside from her passion for teaching, Julia has worked as an assistant manager at a retail store and volunteered with drama camps over multiple summers. Julia used to take dance and singing lessons recreationally throughout her childhood. She also enjoys music and movies that she can share with others. Julia is very passionate when working with students and aims for each student to leave working with her to enjoy at least one element of what they have learned together.

 

Gowsiga T.

In 2011, Gowsi earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Political Science from York University. The following year, she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Human Rights and Equity Studies from the same institution. Seeking to deepen her expertise in human rights advocacy, Gowsi pursued and completed a Master of Arts in Immigration and Settlement Studies at Ryerson University in 2013. In 2019, she furthered her education, obtaining a Master of Teaching (Intermediate/Senior Level) from the University of Toronto (OISE).

Post-OISE graduation, Gowsi embarked on her teaching journey with notable institutions including the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), The Bishop Strachan School, and the University of Toronto Schools. Guided by a teaching philosophy emphasizing the creation of a nurturing and positive learning environment, she prioritizes tailored instruction that caters to individual learner needs and styles.

Lucas P.

Lucas is a Certified Teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board after graduating from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education in the Intermediate/Senior division. Following graduation, Lucas continues to hone his skills as an educator teaching in the senior division in different high schools as he supports his student’s development in essay writing, critical thinking, citations and other learning skills. Lucas believes in and values the individuality of each student and strives to tailor his teaching and tutoring methods to best fit the student at hand.

For over 5 years Lucas has devoted his time working in camps with the City of Toronto and volunteering in schools within the TCDSB where he has learned how to create positive learning environments and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each learner. In his spare time, Lucas enjoys the outdoors either hiking in provincial parks or playing golf with friends and family.
