Nava A.
Nava is a certified teacher who graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She also holds an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood and is currently working on her Montessori certification. Nava has taught internationally as well as in Canada and the United States. She has had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of students from different backgrounds and enjoys instilling a love of learning in her students. Nava enjoys baking, making jewelry and would like to travel more in the future. Nava enjoys discovering techniques to help her students better understand the content.
ABDULAHI A.
Abdulahi has been quite the globetrotter from an early age. He was born in Mogadishu, Somalia; raised in Chicago, America; socialized and educated in Toronto-Windsor, Canada, which he now refers to as home. To date, Abdulahi has lived in five different countries (America, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates) and traveled to 55 others.
Abdulahi received an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science and Environmental Science, and also a Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor. Additionally, he completed many international language certificates. Prior to making the transition back to Canada, Abdulahi taught internationally at prestigious private schools for nearly a decade. These schools followed the Ontario, Alberta and IB curricula and framework.
As an extremely passionate educator, Abdulahi’s teaching experiences have helped him refine a personal teaching philosophy and pedagogy in education that combines the importance of inclusion within the classroom, ongoing feedback, respect, and creating meaningful student-centered lessons. Abdulahi’s defining characteristic as an educator revolves around the joy, pleasure and passion that he receives from teaching beyond the required curriculum. He branches off into various learning atmospheres by becoming actively involved in the development of the whole child. The ‘light bulb!’ moment in students and seeing everything begin to click for them provides him with an immense pleasure and continuously drives his passion and pedagogy as an educator. It is important to nurture a child’s creative abilities to develop a sense of themselves, understand others and the world around them, and navigate information so that they can confidently take risks and solve problems. Reflection and introspection are fundamental components of Abdulahi’s pedagogy and also his own personal growth and commitment to lifelong learning.
JASMINE M.
Jasmine is an Ontario Certified Teacher. Growing up in Mississauga, she went to the University of Guelph where she received her B.A in Psychology with a minor in Marketing. With her lifelong goal of becoming a teacher, she then went to the University of Ottawa to complete her Bachelor of Education. Learning and seeking new knowledge continues to be her passion as she is completing her Master of Education at the University of Ottawa. Jasmine has always taken on leadership and mentoring roles in the jobs she had throughout High School, University, and Post-Grad. Working in various positions such as a ski instructor and a nanny, she has had experience working alongside and developing skills in children of all ages. She is excited to continue working as an Occasional Teacher with the YRDSB this upcoming school year. In her spare time, Jasmine enjoys listening to podcasts, going on hikes, and spending time with friends and family, as well as her cat!
ANGELO K.
Angelo Kontos is enjoying a long and rewarding career in education. Angelo has worked in a variety of roles for over twenty years, including being a Global Studies and English teacher, and curricular head. After gaining several years of experience teaching and developing courses, Angelo realized how important it was to a school to have passionate and caring vice-principals and principals, so he made a rewarding transition into administration and works as a secondary school principal with the Peel District School Board. He thrives on the daily challenges of leading a busy high school and the energy of his students. Angelo is a passionate learner, and often says the best school leaders always think of themselves as teachers first. Before completing his teaching certification, Angelo earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours Degree with York University. Over the years Angelo has added several qualifications to his professional practice, including specialists in Writing and Contemporary Studies. Angelo loves writing and he recently self-published a novel called The Tournament. In his spare time, when he is not writing, Angelo is reading, exercising, or taking his adorable but highly sensitive dog for walks.
KYLE X.
Kyle is a multilingual professional with a wealth of experience in leadership, networking, and tutoring. He was born in East Asia, speaks English, Cantonese, and Mandarin fluently, and is actively learning Italian, Arabic, Spanish, French, and Korean. With six years of tutoring experience teaching students from primary, university, and ESL adult backgrounds, Kyle is passionate about teaching English, social sciences, history, and economics as a result of his academic background. His love for teaching is evident in the way he connects with his students and fosters a positive learning environment. Kyle’s leadership skills are also impressive, having founded and served as the chapter president of My Networking Club, a registered charity where he managed a team of over 20 executives to craft growth plans for six key events that connect university students to industry professionals for networking, mentorship, and internship opportunities. Under Kyle’s leadership, the club achieved membership growth of over 100 members and 300+ attendees from top companies in Canada. Kyle’s academic achievements are equally notable, with a GPA of 3.9/4.0 and a place on the Dean’s Honor Roll at York University. With a genuine passion for education, coupled with his leadership skills and academic achievements, Kyle is poised to make a significant impact in his future endeavors.
FARAH M.
Farah is a passionate teacher with more than 15 years of experience in teaching at schools and tutoring. She has a Master’s degree in Education and linguistics, and speaks more than 3 languages fluently. She has studied and taught art as well in all its mediums. She also studied singing, playing the acoustic guitar, and music reading at the conservatory. She has worked with kids from preschool to grade 12, as well as with adults. Her classes combine the academics and the fun activities, and she likes to incorporate visual arts to make her lessons more interesting and easier to comprehend. She strongly believes that being a teacher is the most rewarding job because, not only she helps shaping the students’ future, but she also learns a lot from them.
Joshua L.
Josh is a Certified Teacher, having completed his Bachelor of Education at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Having an Undergraduate Degree in Biology and a Minor in English Literature gives him backgrounds in Science, Math, and Language Arts to draw from as a tutor. He believes in having a strong relationship with students as a means to build their confidence, using their interests to inspire their curiosity, and developing good study habits. Alongside learning all sorts of weird and wonderful trivia, Josh also enjoys playing guitar, creating and performing songs, playing video games, badminton, and being awestruck by the vastness of space.
LUCIANO P.
Luciano is an Ontario Certified Teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience in a publicly funded school board. Luciano graduated from D’youville University with a Masters of Science in Education. He has qualifications in Primary, Junior and Intermediate Divisions. Additional Qualification include: Special Education Part 1 and 2, ESL Part 1, and Reading Part 1. In his spare time he enjoys time with his family, coaching, and playing ball.
Luciano’s experience teaching and tutoring both online and in person has reaffirmed his commitment to students and their learning. His experiences using STEM and Global Competences to engage students in problem-solving through inquiry, has provided students with many opportunities to succeed. Luciano differentiates instruction while recognizing the diverse backgrounds and learning styles of children. With his many years of experience, Luciano has access to Ministry of Ontario approved teaching resources and consistently implements high yield strategies that promotes student success.
Luciano’s positive attitude has been instrumental with his success in the classroom. He has learned that teaching is not a job, but one’s mission. He is thoroughly committed to student achievement through learning and creating a character orientated, positive learning environment. In closing, Luciano welcomes the opportunity to inspire, support and address the needs of students.
ABIGAIL F.
Abigail is a graduate of Queen’s University’s Concurrent Education BAH/B.Ed program with qualifications in Geography and Biology and a specialization in School and Classroom Leadership. She has experience with the International Baccalaureate program and students with exceptionalities.
Abigail’s teaching philosophy revolves encouraging students to rethink their perception of a subject area through engaging inquiry based activities. She prioritizes real life connections to spark interest and provide the ‘why’ behind the content.
Abigail was born in Halifax, NS and moved to BC in 2022. She is passionate about sustainability and bee conservation, and loves to try out new recipes, ski, and read in her free time.
KAMEISHA E.
Kameisha Edwards is an Ontario certified teacher with three years of experience working with the Toronto District School Board. She has previously worked as a Behaviour Therapist with 5 years of hands on experience in Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI). Kameisha is proficient in working with children diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disabilities. She possesses additional qualifications in teaching English language learners and special education. She have effectively been implementing culturally responsive pedagogy, inquiry based learning and individualized learning plans to meet children’s needs throughout the years. Kameisha is compassionate, well organized and patient with excellent communication, interpersonal and social skills along with strong determination of providing the highest quality of services to all students in order for them to discover their unique potential. Kameisha has completed her studies in Primary/Junior Education at Cardiff Metropolitan University and looking forward to becoming your child’s tutor.
