Marilyn is a Texas certified secondary education/ biology/ chemistry/composite science teacher since 1992. She has taught many different sciences and medical courses to diverse students in high school and college. She has a Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, a M.A. in Molecular Biology, and a B.S. in Honors Zoology. Her passion is teaching the wonder and literacy of science to students and helping them to reach their educational potential. Marilyn is also a dog lover and owner, a nature lover and hiker, an avid reader of health/environment-related articles and books, as well as an online scrabble and sudoku enthusiast. She enjoys spending time with friends and family.
Lauren is a native New Yorker who spent her life steeped in all the art and culture the city has to offer. She is a born educator, lifelong learner, and giant nerd who is obsessed with music, literature, history, technology, and social justice. Lauren spent her formative years dedicated to writing and visual and performing arts, and still had time to get a perfect score on the SAT. She also worked as the Vocal Director and Science Lab Instructor at a camp for gifted and talented children. While studying studio production and composition at the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase she began tutoring students to prepare them for various standardized tests and subjects. Rather than attend law school, Lauren became a full-time tutor, and has been one for over 15 years. Lauren truly loves what she does, and aims for every student to become confident, intellectually curious, and passionate about learning. She believes education is holistic, enthusiasm infectious, and this is what keeps students engaged and excited to pursue their goals as they become better critical thinkers, readers, and problem solvers who are always pushing the boundaries of what is possible. In addition to tutoring and advising, she also teaches a robotics class in which elementary school children build and program their own Lego robots. Lauren’s passions include eating her way across every continent, collecting records, and curling. She has been playing the game, known as chess on ice, for 6 years, is a certified USA Curling instructor, and is also Co-Director of Education at Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and certificate in Public Policy from Hunter College. Later, she completed her Master of Arts in Teaching from Richard Gilder Graduate School at the American Museum of Natural History, where she had the privilege of taking courses from renowned scientists and pedagogical experts. She currently works at Central Park East High School where she teaches both Earth Science and AP Environmental Science. Cristina is passionate about educating the whole student; understanding that it’s essential and imperative to truly know students as people. Thus, allowing her to hone their strengths while addressing their weaknesses. Cristina focuses on relating academic content to students’ personal lives and daily experiences to foster a deeper understanding and connection to what they are learning. In addition to being a science teacher, Cristina is also a certified yoga instructor.

Gail M. is a Certified Teacher. She grew up in Boston Massachusetts, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts at Framingham State College. Gail has been working with children since she was 15 years of age and knew that her passion would be teaching. After she completed her undergraduate degree, she furthered her education at Lesley University, located in Cambridge Massachusetts. Here, she received her Master’s Degree in Education while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Gail moved to Florida in 2001 in order to escape the chilly temperatures in the northern states. Gail also holds a cosmetology license and was the co-owner of a beauty school where she developed all of the instructional materials as well as curriculum. Gail has experience working with a wide range of ages, grade levels, and learning challenges. Some of her experiences include working with hearing impaired children and children with ASD. She continues to study regularly so that she is up to date with the latest proven techniques. She enjoys getting to know her students because a good rapport helps foster a greater learning journey for both the educator and student. Gail understands and is experienced with tailoring her style of teaching in an individualized manner depending on the learner’s needs. Dr. Shanaka R. has 19 plus years of research and supervision experience and over 10 years of teaching experience of students and other professionals with diverse backgrounds and ages. He has a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, a Master’s degree in human pathology, Ph.D. in human pathology and post-doctoral training in molecular virology and cell biology/microbiology. He believes in students and their future, and to encourage less enthusiastic students more enthusiastic and make them hard-working, to prepare them for nothing but to “ace” in examinations. He does not believe in cramming but learning by heart. He has a broad understanding of scientific principles and techniques that is required to prepare the students in facing their examinations and for them to be eligible for various career paths. His main objective would be to instill their “enthusiasm and passion” through his life-long passion, love, discoveries and commitment toward science and medicine. During the teaching process, he would also enlighten interest of his students with the cutting-edge discoveries of science mainly to elevate their interest and increase the retention power of their subject matter. He will incorporate these concepts in a fun, more interesting and in a concise manner and teach them the proper strategies of studying hard to understand concepts, visualize better, be more practical and aid in study-note preparation. He will also teach new studying methods. He can also teach arts, painting and craft work. In his spare time, he enjoys painting, other art and crafts, cooking, US and world travel, going on cruises, music, concerts, pets, gardening, hiking, nature, family time and engage in outreach activities.
