HELEN C.

Helen is a retired New York City Department of Education mathematics teacher with over 20 years of experience in middle and high school classrooms.  She is certified in mathematics as well as Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Helen completed her undergraduate degree at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  She earned her Master’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Lehman College, City University of New York.  Helen believes in developing mathematical thinking from a problem solving perspective and differentiates content so that all students can grow and learn from their individual starting points.  She does this by creating a kind and nurturing learning environment where differences are not only respected but appreciated and mistakes are simply opportunities to learn.

TANAKA S.

Tanaka holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from UBC Okanagan and a Fashion Design Diploma from the Visual College of Art and Design. A lifelong learner, she is passionate about language, communication, and helping students succeed.

She specializes in structured, adaptive learning for English Language Arts students and has experience tutoring elementary and high school students in reading comprehension, writing, and Math.

Freddie E.

Freddie holds a degree in Mechatronics Engineering and has extensive experience in mathematics and physics tutoring. With a strong academic background in engineering, Freddie has developed a deep understanding of complex scientific and mathematical concepts, problem-solving techniques, and their practical applications.

Beyond his technical expertise, Freddie is passionate about teaching and has worked in various educational roles. He has experience as a teaching assistant at Cawthra High School, where he provided individualized support to students, ensuring comprehension and confidence in their learning. He has also trained new employees in professional settings, emphasizing clear communication and step-by-step instruction.

Currently, Freddie works as a tutor, specializing in high school math and science, including physics, chemistry, and biology. He adapts his teaching approach to suit different learning styles, creating an engaging and supportive environment that fosters both understanding and academic confidence.

In addition to tutoring, Freddie volunteers with the Start2Finish Running and Reading Club, mentoring young students in academics and physical activities. Chiara B.

Chiara B. is finishing her Master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania, in Materials Science and Engineering with a minor in Mathematics and a concentration in Energy and Sustainability. Passionate about sustainability, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, Chiara is eager to pursue a career in academia, focusing her research on energy storage solutions.

Beyond academics, Chiara has teaching and coaching experience, having coached sailing programs for students of all ages, including children with learning disabilities. She has also held leadership roles in her team, leading meetings and mentoring high school students in math and chemistry.

An accomplished athlete, Chiara is a dedicated member of the Penn Sailing Team, where she has held leadership positions, including team captain. She is also actively involved in the engineering honor society, leading tours for prospective students and engaging with the broader academic community.

Originally from Italy, Chiara moved to Miami at the age of 10 and speaks Italian, English, and Spanish fluently. A passionate world traveler, she loves exploring remote destinations and immersing herself in new cultures. She believes that fostering curiosity and connecting academic concepts to real-world applications is key to helping students build confidence and succeed.

 

 

 

Hilary R.

Hilary completed her undergrad education at Western University, majoring in Psychology and Studio Art. She has always wanted to be a teacher, which she feels was a calling for her. She completed her Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University, specializing in Environmental Education and is currently working towards getting her Intermediate teachable in Phys-Ed. Through education and experience, Hilary infuses her teaching practice with passion, creativity, vibrant energy, and a deep sense of patience.

Hilary has worked in classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 7, with experience teaching internationally at a nature-based school in England for children aged 4 to 8. Both students and teachers can attest that Hilary left a positive mark on her classrooms in these practicums. She currently works as a middle school teacher in Toronto.

In addition to her teaching experience, Hilary has supported children and adults with disabilities, working in elderly care homes and as a disability support worker. Hilary is passionate about the arts and enjoys activities such as painting, pottery, and drawing. She also loves staying active, whether through running, walking, working out, or spending time outdoors.

Hilary brings her expertise and passion to students through Prep Academy, offering support in all subjects from K-8. She looks forward to embarking on this learning journey with you!

 

 

JOYET C.

Joyet holds a Master’s Degree in Child Study and Education from the University of Toronto and has been a teacher with the TDSB for almost 20 years. Her strong foundation in child development informs her teaching approach, allowing her to adapt her instruction to meet the unique needs of each student. Joyet has extensive experience teaching a wide range of subjects across grades 1 to 8, as well as special education. For the past five years, she has led an intensive remedial reading program, finding immense joy in helping struggling readers develop confidence and fluency. She is particularly devoted to teaching mathematics and implementing systematic, structured approaches to literacy instruction. Joyet recognizes that students’ emotional and mental well-being are critical to their learning and is committed to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where they feel safe and valued. Her tailored approach ensures that each student receives the support they need to thrive academically and personally.

In her spare time, Joyet enjoys spending time in her garden, doing DIY projects, and spending time with her family

 

 

Michael B.

Michael graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a Masters of Science in Mathematics, a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, and a Bachelors of Science in Physics. He is currently finishing up a Masters in Philosophy.

Before joining Prep Academy Tutors, Michael had 4 years of experience as a Teaching Assistant and Tutor in both Mathematics and Philosophy. He also has served as a guest lecturer in philosophy courses. Michael’s commitment to his students is strong, and he cares deeply about teaching and helping people learn.

 

Alexandra H.

Alexandra (Alex) H. is an experienced tutor and teacher who has dedicated the last 12 years to helping kids (elementary through high school) achieve their highest potential. Alex has tutored and mentored children and teenagers from diverse backgrounds, including those with learning disabilities such as ADHD and moderate autism. She collaborates diligently with parents to ensure that their children not only improve their grades but also develop a love for learning by teaching them how to study and mentoring their success. Her specialty subjects are sciences, Spanish, and math. She taught at Cobb County school system Spanish 1, 2, 5, and AP.
Alex was born in Argentina. After high school, she relocated to the USA to further her studies. Alex obtained a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in science majoring in chemistry with minors in physics and math at Georgia State University. Alex worked for fortune five hundred companies such as Amoco, Coca-Cola, and Kellogg’s for 27 years with several accomplishments in research & development, laboratory testing, employee training, management, and auditing. However, her dream was to become a professor or a teacher. She developed a passion for teaching and helping those who struggle with learning difficulties. Alex realized that many children and teenagers need additional help learning due to overcrowded classrooms, leading her to become a tutor.

 

 

Tristan B.

Tristan Beauchamp is a fourth-year Civil Engineering student at McGill University, set to graduate in April 2025. He has a strong academic background in mathematics, physics, and engineering, with experience both in the classroom and in hands-on applications.
Tristan worked as a Teaching Assistant at McGill, grading assignments and assisting students with complex engineering concepts. His experience leading student teams, such as serving as Team Captain for the Concrete Canoe Design Team at McGill, has strengthened his ability to explain technical material clearly and effectively. He has also worked as a Project Management Intern at ARCO Murray, gaining insight into real-world engineering applications. In tutoring, Tristan aims to adapt to different learning styles to ensure students fully understand the material.

LEISHA D.

Leisha competed her Education degree while simultaneously completing a Psychology minor at the University of Calgary. Her teaching experience ranges from being a teaching assistant in preschools to currently being an online K-12 tutor with the Werklund School of Education. Her specializations include Math, Science, and English Language Arts at the K-6 level.
Her major combined with her tutoring experience has given her a strong foundation of the Alberta Curriculum and the confidence to teach it. Additionally, she has gained a deeper understanding of working with online teaching platforms and Zoom, which complements her teaching as an online tutor. Utilizing a student-centered teaching approach is a crucial lesson she has learned from her degree, and it is something she ensures to incorporate into her teaching.
She believes teaching is a privilege where one gets the opportunity to guide, support, and help students succeed through their educational experiences. Here, she intends to create a student-centered learning space where she can help students thrive in their journeys.
