David S.

David is a student at the University of Illinois Chicago majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics. He went to Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, and during his time there, he dedicated a great deal of time to the orchestra and math team. His other hobbies include volunteering and lifting weights at the gym, to name a couple. If you find out about any particular passions of David’s, be weary of mentioning them, as his mouth will not close for some time after. He is also bilingual in English and Russian, with native-speaker proficiency in both. David has taken advanced classes in math and physics including Mechanics, Electricity & Magnetism, Calculus 1-3, and Discrete Mathematics, among others, and has an understanding of all prerequisite topics for each. On the teaching side of things, he believes that intuition and deep understanding are the most effective ways of learning a given topic, not just memorizing the methods needed to solve homework problems. David is very patient and will ensure that a student fully understands the “why?” before moving on to the “what’s next?” without getting bogged down. He does not hand out answers like candy and will challenge a student to guide them to a solution on their own. Being a student himself, David is understanding and still sculpts his teaching methods to each individual.

Carly C.

Carly C. graduated from University of Michigan with a B.S. in Neuroscience. She has tutored while in school and after graduation in subjects such as Math, Science, ACT/SAT, and the ASVAB. Carly has experience tutoring elementary level students through collegiate level students, as well as students who are neurodivergent. She loves helping and pushing students to reach their academic best. She strives to ensure that each of her students understand the material using different strategies and techniques. Two of her favorite quotes are:
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life thinking that it’s stupid.” – Albert Einstein
“Intelligence is not measured by how much you know but by how much you have the capacity to learn.” – Francesca Zappia

Five Star Google Review: “…Carly was amazing. She was very diligent and patient with our daughter.  Prep Tutors was the way to go, and the best service.”

Ozzy C.

Ozzy, a fourth-year Industrial Engineering student minoring in Business at the University of Toronto, is currently diving into the practical world of engineering through a co-op internship as a Supply Chain Technician at a biotech firm. With a natural knack for math and physics, he was drawn to the exciting world of STEM and chose to pursue an engineering degree. Remembering his own early challenges, Ozzy stepped up as a mentor in his faculty, eager to ease the journey for first-year students and those transitioning from high school to engineering programs.

Ozzy stands out for his unique and practical way of tackling problems. He has a talent for breaking down tough concepts into bite-sized, understandable pieces, making him a go-to tutor for university courses. His approach not only simplifies complex ideas but also sparks creative thinking in his students.

When he’s not immersed in engineering, Ozzy likes to play the piano and guitar. He’s also deeply intrigued by the mysteries of human behavior and evolutionary psychology, often found with a book on these topics in his downtime. A chess enthusiast, Ozzy loves the game’s blend of skill and strategy, teaching lessons in accountability. And for a bit of fun, he can whip through a Rubik’s cube in under 90 seconds!

Zainab H.

Hi, My name is Zainab and I’m passionate about helping students cultivate a love for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)  subjects! I recently completed my Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto and have worked as a teaching assistant for 7 University level STEM courses. I have also been involved in curriculum development at OCAD University and have published an academic paper on teaching computer science literacy and am working as a Course Instructor at OCAD University. My favorite part of teaching is seeing how much a student’s understanding of a subject can change from the start to the end of the semester. I also currently work as a User Experience Designer where I work to make technology more accessible for Blind and Partially Sighted Individuals. In my free time I like to read, paint and play volleyball!

Mitchell N.

Mitchell recently graduated from the University of Toronto, where he completed a Master of Science (MSc) through the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. For his MSc thesis, Mitchell conducted research at the Hospital for Sick Children in the lab of Dr. Lili-Naz Hazrati, where he studied the impact of mild traumatic brain injury (or concussion) in women’s brains. Prior to his MSc, Mitchell completed a 4-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) at Ontario Tech University, majoring in Biological Science (Life Sciences specialization) and minoring in Sustainability Studies.

Having previously worked as a peer tutor at Ontario Tech University, and as a current volunteer tutor for middle school students at the Working Women Community Centre in Toronto, Mitchell has experience tutoring students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. He firmly believes that all students deserve an opportunity to reach their full academic potential and is passionate about training students to become independent problem-solvers. Mitchell is experienced in tutoring various STEM courses—namely, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Math—and helps his students learn how to navigate abstract concepts and multi-step computational problems.

In his free time, Mitchell enjoys gardening, indoor bouldering, and reading.

GALE M.

Gale is a mathematics and philosophy student at the University of Toronto. He has been working with children of all ages for more than five years, and has taught math, science and English as a private tutor for over three years. Gale is a former debate team captain and DECA champion, and spent a great deal of time coaching high school students in those competitions. Mathematics and the sciences are just a few of Gale’s many areas of interest; he loves to read novels (as long they’re older than fifty), play tennis and listen to music of all kinds.

Gale has always loved to teach, so he started working with children in early high school: first as a swim instructor, then as a teacher’s assistant, and finally as a private tutor. He has taught students as young as four, and as old as seventeen. Gale is very comfortable with kids, and knows how to make academic material as fun and engaging as it can be. Whether a child is struggling with a subject, or trying to excel in it, he can help them reach their academic goals.
