ALEC M.

Alec is an Ontario-certified History/Social Sciences teacher and current M.A. History student at the University of Toronto. Before moving to Toronto, he completed his Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa, specializing in Grade 4-10 History. Before that, he graduated from Queen’s University in 2016 with an honour’s degree in History and World Religion. He began teaching ESL to students of all ages in 2016 while living in Europe. He speaks French and a little Spanish and loves learning new languages. He has taught Grade 3-4 Core French, Grade 7/8 Language Arts, History, and Health, and Grade 6/7 English Literacy in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB). He also taught various subjects – primarily English, Social Studies, and Physical Education – from kindergarten to Grade 10 in the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE). In his spare time, he loves to play music with his siblings, especially guitar and bass. He also loves to play and coach basketball and is a huge Toronto Raptors fan. He has some suggestions for how the team could be improved but does not have the influence to secure a meeting with management. Since 2010, he has been a support worker for an individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their family. What he loves most about teaching is seeing students gain confidence in themselves.

LES T.

 

Lesley, or Les as she likes to be called, is a certified teacher of 22 years.  Les came from Montreal to complete M.A. courses at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and then completed her teacher certification as well as specialist courses in Special Education. She later acquired a  Masters in Social Work at U of T with a focus on children and families.
Les loves kids and likes people. She is a kind, energetic and creative person who would like to share her love of teaching with younger learners in the earlier grades.  Les has a profound love of books and reading and art. Even before she had her own child, Les began to collect children’s books and is happy to have a little library of her own.
Les is experienced working with students with diverse learning styles and challenges (including learning differences / disabilities, attention issues and anxiousness).  She is well-equipped to build an effective plan to support young learners on their journey to tackling reading, language and numeracy skills. Les has excellent people skills and will communicate clearly with parents about their child’s progress. She employs creative strategies and engaging resources for learners. Les has a patient, friendly and playful approach to teaching.

Gureet K.

Gureet is a certified Ontario teacher with about 8 years of teaching experience (both in the professional and volunteer sections). She completed her Honours Bachelor of Science at Glendon Campus, York University in 2019, double majoring in Biology and Political Science. She completed her Bachelor of Education at York University in 2021 and expanded her knowledge of teaching throughout the summer of 2021 in Special Education and Mathematics, Grades 7 & 8. Moreover, Gureet has attained certificates in other post-secondary institutions regarding teaching and inclusion at University of Toronto and Harvard University (online). She has always wanted to become a teacher since she was 5 years old, and she continues to expand in her experiences and be open-minded in supporting students that need it the most, as well as creating a positive learning experience for all students.

Connor G.

CHRISTINA G.

Christina graduated in April of 2020 from McGill University with a degree in Political Science and Sociology. Her interests in school also extended to Gender Studies and Communications. In September of 2021 Christina will begin a Master’s Program focusing on International Economics and Policy. While at McGill, Christina tutored on behalf of the Sociology department, preparing students for upcoming exams and assignments. As well, Christina volunteered at the essay writing center, where she edited and assisted students with papers.

Christina’s passionate about literacy and believes that skills in reading and writing are fundamental to success in any subject. She has worked extensively with students with developmental and processing problems, working to help the students overcome difficulties and obstacles. She is trained in SAT and SSAT prep and has experience teaching and preparing students to successfully write the exam.
She has worked with children in different capacities, ranging from camp counsellor, swimming instructor, and tutoring. Christina believes being patient and firm while encouraging students is paramount to achieving goals.
Christina believes in developing and fostering relationships with each student in order to create a comfortable environment that allows the students to flourish and learn. She is a firm advocate for different learning styles and tries to incorporate a variety of techniques that deviate from standardized education, as she considers each student’s learning style to be unique and accommodable.
In her spare time, Christina volunteers as a peer support worker at a rehab center for addicts. She is fluent in Italian, enjoys reading, traveling, watching and playing sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Magdalene S.

Magdalene graduated from OISE’s Master of Teaching program and holds her Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto. Magdalene has been teaching in professional and social settings since 2015 and has experience working with diverse learners. She has taught grades 1 through 12 with a focus on English, math, and the social sciences. Magdalene also has experience teaching English internationally.

Magdalene seeks to advance students’ self-confidence and self-efficacy while cultivating a love of learning and empowering students on their journey to academic success. She embodies and exemplifies an ideology that centres around self- discovery and personal growth, with an emphasis on critical thinking, adaptability, and resiliency.

When Magdalene isn’t in school or tutoring, you can find her curled up with a good book, visiting the animals at the Toronto Zoo, or taking pictures of different foods she’s tried around the city.

TRACEY C.

Tracey received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba and has almost 25 years of experience in a variety of teaching environments. Tracey has worked with Indigenous learners in northern Manitoba, taught ESL to engineers from the former East Germany, taught piano to Early Years students, and taught high school courses at correctional centres.

Tracey’s philosophy of teaching is to make learning fun and engaging by relating the subject matter to real-world examples as well as incorporating a student’s own interests.

In her free time, Tracey is a designer and illustrator, likes to travel to far-flung places, enjoys scuba diving and likes to spend time with her cat, Mia.
