Christine F.

Christine is a certified math teacher with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2005.   Christine’s journey into teaching was inspired by her own math teachers, who went above and beyond to help her succeed. Their willingness to offer extra help before and after school left a lasting impression on Christine, showing the power of patience and personalized support.  Christine Fontenot strives to bring that same dedication and compassion to her tutoring sessions.

As an energetic, down-to-earth educator, Christine enjoys connecting with students on their level and making math approachable.  Her creativity allows her to find engaging and unique ways to explain concepts, while her compassion ensures that every student feels supported and encouraged.   Christine believes that learning should be enjoyable and that every student has the potential to excel with the right guidance.

Ultimately, Christine Fontenot wants to be a math tutor to inspire students just as her former teachers inspired her–to show them that with effort, encouragement, and the right approach, they can achieve more than they imagined.

Sai N.

Sai is a motivated graduate student at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he is pursuing a Master’s degree in biomedical engineering with the ultimate goal of applying to medical school and becoming a physician. He is hoping to work at the intersection of patient care and cutting edge medical technology. Sai graduated high school with 37 transferable AP credits; this in conjunction with his Biology undergraduate background and Engineering graduate background makes Sai a strong candidate for STEM subjects with a solid understanding of Math up to Calculus 2/BC, Chemistry from high school to Organic Chemistry 2 at the collegiate level, AP Physics, and PSAT/SAT and ACT Prep.
Alongside his academic pursuits, Sai has copious experience volunteering and working with special needs children over multiple summers between academic seasons as well volunteering experience at multiple free clinics in San Antonio that provide medical care to those in need completely free of charge to the patient. Through these activities, Sai has developed a deep affinity for working with people of all kinds of people and sharing a love for learning through companionship. In his free time, Sai enjoys training in boxing/muay thai and singing.

Chris L.

Growing up in Cardiff, Wales, Chris was drawn to the outdoors despite the city’s amenities. As a child, he joined outdoor clubs, cubs, scouts, and played various sports; fostering a love for new activities, challenges, and meeting people. This passion led him to the Sea to Sky region, where a temporary visa turned into a lifelong adventure. For Chris, the satisfaction of overcoming a challenging target, problem, skill, or puzzle has always been worth the effort, work, and occasional pain and frustration

While in university, Chris worked at a summer camp in North Carolina, where he helped campers grow physically, socially, and emotionally, sparking his interest in academic teaching. In 2013, he earned a BA in education from the University of the West of England, Bristol. Through this course, he was incredibly fortunate to have extensive placements in a range of settings, with a range of grades. Chris has worked in both traditional and non-traditional settings; in schools with everything imaginable and schools with almost nothing; and taught from the very youngest learners up to adults in their golden years.

Chris blends educational theory with his active outdoor background to create engaging, multidisciplinary learning experiences, emphasizing hands-on learning and understanding rather than doing. He strives to find creative ways to show that learning is real rather than a lesson in a room. Chris loves finding opportunities to get outside and do something, rather than learn about something. He encourages movement, noise and active participation. Critically and fundamentally, Chris believes in teaching a person at their own individual level and to their own individual needs, encouraging everyone to take ownership of their learning and to support them in overcoming challenges to aid understanding and ability.

Making mistakes and finding things hard is the first step to learning something. If it was easy, were we learning, or just completing tasks?

Vito S.

Vito has over 25 years of experience in the electrical engineering field where he utilized analytical and problem-solving skills on a daily basis. Born and raised in New Jersey, Vito holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of New Jersey.

Later in his career, Vito worked as a manager where he had the opportunity to mentor and train
his staff into the engineers they yearned to become. Vito guided a variety of professionals with diverse technical backgrounds by tailoring his teaching approach to the specific needs and skill sets of each individual.

Vito also has experience tutoring middle and high school level mathematics. He finds great joy in teaching a subject that he strongly utilized throughout his profession as an engineer. Not only does Vito boost students’ confidence, but he is also able to provide them with a practical understanding of the subject matter. Whether it is solving an equation or balancing a checkbook, Vito excels at bridging the gap between theory and application.

In his spare time, Vito enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with his family. Vito puts his heart into everything that he does, which makes him an authentic and dedicated tutor.

Ken L.

Ken earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Purdue University. He went to a well-known university in Shanghai when he was 15 years old. Ken has more than 30 years of college math teaching experience. He has great patience tutoring any type of student, and he always tries to find ways to relate math to real world situations. He is knowledgeable in a wide range of subjects. Recently, he began tutoring a college student in economics. His personal life experience shows that he is a fighter and a very kind person. He places great importance on the people he connects with. Once a shy boy during college, now he can talk to anyone. Ken wants to make a very positive impact on anyone he tutors.

Jordan G.

Jordan is certified through the Texas Education Agency in Mathematics, grade levels 4 through 12. Jordan has 10 years of experience teaching in the public school system, charter school system, and private tutoring. His experience is with mostly middle school and high school grade levels (6th-12th). In today’s education world, students are being asked to problem solve using algebra at younger ages. This is why students must be mathematically prepared for whatever their future holds, whether it is scoring better on college entry tests or daily at whatever skill they seek to pursue.

Jordan is a Marine Corps veteran, but don’t worry, he’s actually one of the smart ones! Seriously though, Jordan is very sincere and passionate about mathematics and connecting/teaching students. Jordan discovered that this was his God-given purpose in life during his time as a youth minister at his home church for 2 years, soon after being honorably discharged from military service. Jordan looks forward to serving the community by assisting students to develop a growth mindset and a passion for the most important topic in school, MATH! Although, Mr. Guerrero is somewhat biased in this opinion!
