Cherisse is a warm, friendly and adaptable educator who believes in meeting students exactly where they are. Cherisse sees teaching as a two-way experience — one where she learns just as much from her students as they do from her. She graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and has since developed a deep passion for working with young learners. Her journey into education began in Canada, where she discovered her love for teaching while working as a ski instructor at Silver Star Mountain. Cherisse is passionate about helping students grow in confidence by connecting learning to their natural curiosity and personal interests. In her spare time, Cherisse enjoys hiking, reading, playing tennis, and spending time with friends and family.

 

Oscar R.

Oscar R. is a passionate and experienced tutor specializing in Math and Science for bilingual learners. With a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso and a strong academic foundation in mathematics and physics, Oscar brings clarity, structure, and enthusiasm to every tutoring session.

Oscar has over five years of tutoring and teaching experience, both in the U.S. and abroad. He has taught Math, pre-Calculus, and Physics to bilingual students, with a focus on helping learners build confidence and excel in challenging subjects. His global teaching experience includes tutoring English and Math in Spain and serving as a translator in Honduras for two years- strengthening his ability to communicate across cultures and support multilingual students.

Since moving to Austin two years ago, Oscar has worked as an English teacher for adults and provided tutoring in Math and English Language Arts (ELA) for local elementary schools. He currently tutors students from 4th to 8th grade, helping them master foundational skills, prepare for assessments, and develop a positive mindset toward learning.

Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, Oscar is especially effective with students from diverse language backgrounds. Tammy G.

Tammy graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education, and completed a Masters Degree in Education from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Tammy has taught high school mathematics the past 25+ years in Appleton, Wisconsin, Fort Myers and Sarasota, Florida. She has tutored both middle and high school students for homework help, to pass ACT/SAT, PSAT, CLT, and the HESI Nursing Exam. She is very patient and nonjudgmental. It makes her happy when a student finally “gets it” understands a concept they couldn’t previously.

Outside of school, Tammy enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach and reading.

Eric B.

Eric Barbosa is Certified 4th-8th grade math teacher in San Antonio, TX with 10 years of experience with 6th-8th grade math. He has 23 years of experience in middle school education, which include teaching math and coaching. Eric enjoys teaching students and helping them to understand mathematical relationships in a way that makes math fun and relevant.

Within Eric’s professional responsibilities are academic leadership, curriculum planning and data analysis. Eric also plans academic interventions for students in need. He finds satisfaction in inspiring student motivation and the joy of learning through success, confidence and fun. One of his favorite quotes is, “If you make your work fun, then you get to wake up and go to “fun” everyday.”

Personally, Eric enjoys spending time with family, reading, outdoor activities and carpentry.

Jamari G.

Jamari is a dedicated educator and certified instructional coach with diverse backgrounds in special education, elementary instruction, academic tutoring, educational research, and scholarship application review. In the past, he was an ABA and worked closely with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He is currently an instructional coach, where he supports new teachers in developing effective classroom practices; alongside this role, he is a classroom teacher. Jamari has taught a range of subjects, including special education, elementary core academics, middle school, and high school Algebra I, US History, and English. He has even earned recognition as a Teacher of the Year nominee for his impact on student growth in math and ELA.

Since 2018, Jamari has worked as a private tutor for students in grades 3–11, helping many improve by two grade levels or more and achieve top scores on state assessments. He holds a Master’s in Forensic Psychology from the University of Louisiana–Monroe and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. It is during this time he made the conscious effort to study insects—mosquitoes in particular; these mosquitoes were reared in a controlled environment within a science lab. He’s clearly a lifelong learner and was called to teach. In his calling as an educator, he possesses a Level 3 teaching certification with a Special Education endorsement.
He is currently working toward receiving an add-on certification as an Educational Diagnostician. He possesses certifications in elementary computer science education through LSU and supports learning with technology. With a strong foundation in data-driven instruction and individualized learning, Jamari empowers students to reach their full potential.

Josh R.

Josh is a certified educator with a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a literature emphasis, who has helped students not only boost their academic skills but also gain clarity, confidence, and direction in their educational journey. With experience teaching college-level writing for Boise State University and guiding high school students through English, digital literacy, and post-secondary planning—including college enrollment, career exploration, and financial aid—he brings both expertise and empathy to his sessions. Josh coaches students across multiple content areas and has supported learners with scholarship essays, senior capstones, job applications, and executive function strategies. He builds trust quickly through open communication and leads with a teaching philosophy rooted in empathy and critical thinking. He has developed onboarding materials and coached peers in service strategy, and he has also led training sessions for hospital staff, honing his skill for translating complex ideas into accessible, meaningful instruction. Students appreciate his calm presence and clear guidance. Some even say he makes grammar feel like solving a puzzle. When not teaching, Josh enjoys walking the Boise Greenbelt with his family, watching baseball, or helping friends build computers.

Kristine K.

Kristine is a Certified Teacher with more than 30 years’ experience both in the classroom and as a tutor. She graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Math Education. Kristine spent most of the 30 years in Jefferson Parish Public School System high schools teaching everything from remedial through honors math classes and taught 5th grade for 3 years. She loves one-on-one work, as it allows the time for her to verify the student’s strengths and weaknesses to focus on areas where improvement is needed. She uses topics that interest each student for a more personal and engaging learning experience. As a tutor, Kristine is very dedicated to using methods that each student can learn from. She also believes in frequent communication with parents as part of the learning team. She believes that laughter is an essential part of learning and considers all questions to be important.

 

Victoria P.

Victoria is originally from St. Petersburg, Russia. She received an excellent education in both countries: Lyceum 239 (the top 1% Advanced Math High School in Russia), a BS/MS in Applied Mathematics from St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (St. Petersburg, Russia), and an MS in Computer Science from Tufts University (Medford, MA, USA). Victoria has 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom. She is a Florida-certified math teacher (grades 5-12). Currently, she tutors Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, as well as EOC and High School Entrance Exam Preparation, accommodating various learning styles. Luke graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics. Though he completed his degree in Arizona, he has primarily lived in the Boise area since 2016. During his undergraduate studies, Luke served as a math and physics tutor at the university’s tutoring center and led discussion groups for an introductory physics course for engineering students. He is passionate about communicating the importance of science and enjoys deepening his technical understanding through collaborative, thoughtful discussion.
