Hello, I’m Adeola, a college student with a passion for nursing and biology. Currently on the path to becoming a psych nurse, my journey involves delving into the intricate world of human psychology and healthcare. Alongside my studies, I’ve taken on the role of a tutor, sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow students.

Beverly Y.

Beverly graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Harvey Mudd College and an Master’s of Education from Boston University.

She is a Certified Teacher who has worked with elementary and middle school students in Taiwan, Japan, and the United States.

Beverly’s diverse teaching experience has shown her that building relationships with students is the most important step in meeting their educational needs.

She believes every student is a “math person” and prioritizes developing number sense and critical thinking during her sessions. Beverly is excited to help students find learning strategies that work for them and encourage their curiosity about math.

In her spare time, Beverly enjoys hiking through autumn landscapes, solving jigsaw puzzles, and pondering why students have contentious arguments over whether a hotdog is a sandwich. (She’s inclined to say, “Yes,” per the Merriam-Webster definition.)

Jen N.

Jen N. is a certified teacher, who is currently an assistant principal at a middle school. She holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an endorsement in English as a Second Language as well as a master’s degree in School Leadership. She has taught in the elementary grade school setting for over 10 years. Prior to teaching, she worked in the incentive travel industry and has visited over 25 countries. Jen loves working with children. She created an after school program at an elementary school to assist students in achieving their full potential in the areas of math and reading. She believes that building strong student relationships is critical to success. She holds all students to high standards and does so in an engaging and enjoyable manner. In her free time she enjoys all outdoor activities, including running, hiking, and camping with her children.

Halle M.

Halle obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Music with a certificate in Statistics and Machine Learning from Princeton University, where she graduated with high honors. Halle was awarded multiple prizes for her senior thesis musical and a prize for outstanding work by underclassmen in musical theater. With her strong background in and passion for mathematics, she has had professional employment experience in the data analytics sector. Along with her years of tutoring experience in a variety of subjects, Halle has experience guiding and mentoring students as they approach the college application process. Halle believes strongly in the importance of developing a relationship founded on trust and respect with her students. As a high-achieving student from a rural community, Halle’s passion is providing students with the support and resources they need to succeed, just as her mentors did for her. A fun fact about Halle is that she completed a virtual internship entirely in Spanish for a non-profit organization based out of Argentina, and hopes to visit the country soon!

Sunny S.

Sunny is a prior math and ESL educator with a passion for supporting students to not only think, but create. With three years of experience teaching Algebra 1 using Peter Liljedahl’s Thinking Classrooms model, her priorities are building genuine, encouraging relationships with students, and using that foundation to develop their confidence as mathematicians and problem-solvers.

Sunny grew up in Sacramento, California before attending Brown University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education. In her spare time, you will find her bouldering, learning guitar, and optimizing her Wordle score.

 

Lauren H.

Lauren is a native New Yorker who spent her life steeped in all the art and culture the city has to offer. She is a born educator, lifelong learner, and giant nerd who is obsessed with music, literature, history, technology, and social justice. Lauren spent her formative years dedicated to writing and visual and performing arts, and still had time to get a perfect score on the SAT. She also worked as the Vocal Director and Science Lab Instructor at a camp for gifted and talented children. While studying studio production and composition at the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase she began tutoring students to prepare them for various standardized tests and subjects. Rather than attend law school, Lauren became a full-time tutor, and has been one for over 15 years. Lauren truly loves what she does, and aims for every student to become confident, intellectually curious, and passionate about learning. She believes education is holistic, enthusiasm infectious, and this is what keeps students engaged and excited to pursue their goals as they become better critical thinkers, readers, and problem solvers who are always pushing the boundaries of what is possible. In addition to tutoring and advising, she also teaches a robotics class in which elementary school children build and program their own Lego robots. Lauren’s passions include eating her way across every continent, collecting records, and curling. She has been playing the game, known as chess on ice, for 6 years, is a certified USA Curling instructor, and is also Co-Director of Education at Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club.

Michael K.

Michael K. is a Certified Teacher. He grew up in NJ and completed an Undergraduate Degree from Northeastern University. He completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Education focusing on Middle School Math. He grew up with a deep love of the city and once he decided to move into the city, he never looked back. Michael always had a passion for working with children which led him to his teaching career. Through teaching, he has been able to help students connect their prior knowledge to new topics in Middle School Math. Michael has extensive experience working with neurodivergent students and a variety of curriculums including Engage NY, Singapore Math, and Math in Focus.

Antonio B.

Antonio B. is a certified mathematics teacher with over 16 years of teaching experience. Mr. Bayuk grew up in New York and attended the prestigious Bronx High School of Science. He went on to receive Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. While working as an engineer, Mr. Bayuk returned to Stevens and obtained a Masters Degree in Computer Science.

During his career as an engineer, Mr. Bayuk began teaching courses as an adjunct professor. Given the important role that a strong public education played in his life, Mr. Bayuk decided to get his teaching certification from New York University and began teaching high school mathematics.

Mr. Bayuk’s wealth of experience in both the private sector and class room brings a real-world perspective to his students. He is able to teach all levels of mathematics from middle school up through Calculus 3. Mr. Bayuk has a love for teaching and is able to connect well with a diverse group of learners.

Monisha B

Having travelled widely and worked in various countries as a professional as well as an entrepreneur, I wish to now pursue my true calling, helping young minds grow. My five years of experience as an English teacher followed by CELTA qualification in 2014 were steps in this direction.

Before this I have been a global Sales and Marketing executive with more than 20 years of experience in Business Development, Sales, and International Finance. I work well in fostering relationships and have a goal-oriented approach with an emphasis on a well-planned path towards the same.

Umir B.

Umir is a Miami native currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science Degree at Florida International University, specializing in pre-dentistry. From sixth grade onwards, Umir has harbored a passion for tutoring in various subjects. During high school, he assumed leadership roles in math and science clubs, taking charge of organizing after-school tutoring sessions. Now, at the university level, Umir serves as a Learning Assistant for biology and English classes, in addition to his role as a tutor in the math lab.

Umir’s journey as a tutor commenced during high school when his voluntary assistance to fellow students caught the attention of teachers. Impressed by his dedication, they recommended Umir join after-school tutoring clubs. In university, his professors recognized his outstanding academic record and extended an invitation for him to become a paid Learning Assistant and math lab tutor. Endowed with the trust of professors, the respect of peers, and fuelled by his personal commitment to making learning enjoyable and accessible, Umir draws upon his own love for education to contribute to the success of others.
