Anita M. M.

Anita has always loved to teach—whether it was multiplication tables at the kitchen table with her younger brothers or helping her friends study for History exams, she has many fond memories of supporting others in their academics. Anita has recently graduated from a Marketing Management certificate at Humber, and has an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in English and Media Studies under her belt. She is dedicated to providing a high-quality, collaborative tutoring experience to her students, ensuring that her teaching style adapts to their unique needs. Anita’s specialties include English literature/literacy, college essay prep, humanities, and social science.

When she isn’t working, you can find Anita cooking up a storm in her kitchen or obsessing over her newest craft (air-dry clay at present). She loves to learn new things, and this passion is what drives her to inspire the same love for learning within her students.

 

 

TIMOTHY T.

After Tim graduated with a bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria, he went to teach English as a second language in Victoria, before moving to South Korea to teach English for a year. From there, Tim returned to Vancouver to acquire a Bachelors of Education from the University of British Columbia. He then spent 5 years teaching at Vancouver Christian School, as a Grade 7 Homeroom Teacher, teaching a variety of subjects such as English, Math, Social Studies, and Phyiscal Education. Tim also has experience as a teacher-on-call, and has subbed for Grades 3 to 12. Tim is also well-versed in music and music theory and plays the piano, guitar, and flute.

LAXSHAA N.

Dr. Laxshaa Nadpurajah is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in education, data analysis, digital content management, fitness, and nutrition. She holds a Doctorate in Business Administration; a Master of Education, specializing in Assessment & Evaluation; and a Master of Management Analytics, both from Queen’s University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology and Criminal Justice & Public Policy from the University of Guelph.

Hope D.

Hope is a Certified Teacher. She grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, before moving to Idaho. She completed her Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Creative Writing and then went on to get a Master in the Art of Teaching at The College of Idaho. Hope has worked in education for almost a decade as a college writing tutor, an AVID tutor, middle school teacher, and academic interventionist. Hope grew up with a deep love of stories and the natural world. She takes the motto of “jack of all trades” to heart and works to learn any and all skills she has interest in. During her free time, Hope can be found reading, writing, gardening, embroidering, or out seeing theater performances. In teaching, Hope has a passion for media analysis and the interconnection of literature and history. She believes personal connection is important and the integration of subjects with each other and the world is a cornerstone to understanding in education.

Gabriela M.

Gabriela is a bilingual teacher and reading interventionist with 7 years of teaching experience and 10+ years teaching English to children in China on an online platform. Gabriela holds a bachelor degree in bilingual bicultural education as well as a master’s degree as a reading specialist. She likes to personalize instruction to each individual as she understands the importance of building a strong student-teacher relationship to set the foundation for learning. Gabriela enjoys working with all students and families. She enjoys working with students with different abilities as she believes all students can learn given the right amount of care and support.

ANTHONY M.

Anthony Mayadunne is a multi-disciplinary educator up to the university level in Mathematics (ALM, Harvard), English (MA, UBC), and Business (MBA, U of T). He is passionate about delivering a focused and exciting learning experience to his students—whether they are in Grade 6 … or pursuing their PhD. He is also a SAT trainer (integrating both English and Mathematics sections), and University Admissions Coach for undergraduate and graduate programs, having placed many students in leading universities around the world. When invited to teach Calculus in Engineering Outreach programs (Gr 9 – 12) at U of T Engineering, he developed an engaging approach to teach a famously challenging subject: Calculus. Later, completing his Masters in Mathematics for Teaching, he specialized in teaching Calculus to meet rigorous standards: AP/IB Calculus, Engineering Mathematics, and Mathematics in Arts & Science. His warm and engaging manner has led him to mentor many students in their academic and professional careers. He hopes to persuade the world that all people (including parents) are innate mathematicians, and that Calculus can bring as profound joy as Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, or Maurice Sendak’s Night Kitchen. So far, he has succeeded with about 50 people, and optimistically looks forward to the still 8 billion more people to go.
He has traveled extensively, living for many years in Japan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, and uses these experiences to write short stories, essays and poems. He describes himself in four verbs: I teach, I travel, I read, and sometimes, I write.

Alice I.

Alice has been a teacher for 26 years. She loves helping children reach their full potential! She has experience as an English as a second language teacher, kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grade teacher. Her favorite subject to teach is math and she is also a certified reading specialist. In her free time, she likes to read, garden, spend time with her 3 children, and hike outside with her 2 dogs.

Kristen H.

Kristen Henry is experienced and passionate educator with more 17 years of experience. She has been a classroom teacher, an instructional coach, a tutor, an administrator, and now supports preservice teachers. She enjoys working with students to help them reach their goals and support their learning.
Kristen has a Bachelors of Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, a Masters of Art in Curriculum and Instruction from UTSA, and is currently in the home stretch of her doctorate in Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching at UTSA.

When she is not involved in education, she’s an avid runner and mentors newer athletes in a local trail running group. She has two mischievous cats and enjoys a good book. She is native of San Antonio and loves exploring her city with friends and family.

Diana F.

Diana grew up in San Antonio, Texas and attended UTSA for her BA in English, then UIW for her Masters in Management. She worked for several years in the training department at a large insurance company writing policies and procedures, and conducting training classes. The idea to switching careers from teaching adults to teaching children came about when she had her own children, one of which has Down syndrome. Working with her son really opened her eyes to how all children learn differently. Diana enjoyed the challenge of discovering how to best help her son learn.

Diana strongly believes in the power of relationship building. “It’s important that my students trust me and understand that I want to help them be successful.” Throughout her 12 years as a classroom teacher, Diana has spent time on the social emotional skills necessary to build relationships and boost student confidence. She believes that once trust is built, students are ready to learn.

In her free time, Diana enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, reading, and keeping her home and classroom clutter-free, and organized.

MARY A.

Mary is an enthusiastic and passionate educator with 35 years experience as a classroom teacher and reading specialist. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Masters in Developmental and Remedial Reading, as well as Academic Curriculum Instruction. Mary has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Elementary Education.

Mary has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout her career. She was awarded Teacher of the Year for her innovative teaching practices, which incorporate her creativity, subject knowledge, and strategies to engage students and foster growth mindset.

What truly sets Mary apart is her passion for teaching and unwavering commitment to helping each student reach their full potential.

As a classically trained chef, Mary has been known to “Cook with Books!” Reading, writing, and math skills are strengthened and students celebrate by enjoying their creations!
