Matt C. is a retired, certified math teacher with 25 years of teaching experience. He spent 20 of those years at Churchill High School, where he also served as the AVID Coordinator for 17 years. Matt holds a BA in Accounting from Texas Lutheran University and an MA in Education with a minor in Math from the University of the Incarnate Word. Before transitioning to education, Matt worked for 10 years as an accountant and CPA, but his passion for helping others inspired him to pursue a career in teaching. As the AVID Coordinator, Matt became highly skilled in teaching AVID strategies, such as time management, note-taking, organization, and inquiry-based tutoring, all aimed at improving student success. Beyond education, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, attending church and participating in life group, coaching and practicing CrossFit, and working with athletes as a licensed massage therapist.

Bianca G.

Bianca is an accomplished educator, academic coach, and student advocate with a diverse background in English, writing, test preparation, career readiness, and supporting students with different learning needs. A lifelong South Texas resident, Bianca brings a combination of strong academic credentials, professional training experience, and a genuine passion for helping students recognize their abilities and achieve their goals.

Bianca graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Journalism. Her academic studies included concentrations in document design, publishing, and grant writing, providing her with an especially strong foundation in written and verbal communication. Her background in English, journalism, professional writing, and public speaking allows her to help students develop the communication skills that are essential for success in school, college, and future careers.

Bianca has extensive experience teaching and mentoring learners across an extraordinary range of ages and backgrounds. Her work has included academic tutoring, adult literacy, professional training and curriculum development, youth education, career guidance, and individualized support for students with disabilities. She has developed instructional materials, led classroom and professional training sessions, created testing and evaluation procedures, and taught learners in both individual and group settings.

In her professional role as a Student HireAbility Navigator with Workforce Solutions Alamo, Bianca works closely with school districts, families, community organizations, and vocational rehabilitation professionals to help students with disabilities successfully transition into postsecondary education and employment. Her work includes career exploration, workplace readiness, self-advocacy, postsecondary planning, and connecting students and families with educational and community resources. This experience gives Bianca a particularly valuable perspective when working with students who may need additional patience, encouragement, organization, or individualized support.

Bianca specializes in English, English Language Arts, reading, writing, college and scholarship essays, Spanish, and standardized test preparation, including the ACT, PSAT/SAT, SSAT/ISEE, and STAAR. She also helps students strengthen test-taking strategies, academic organization, written communication, and study skills. Her bilingual background in English and Spanish allows her to support students across both languages.

Bianca has considerable experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including students with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other disabilities. Through years of professional and volunteer work, she has helped create inclusive programs and learning opportunities designed to ensure students feel capable, welcomed, and supported. She understands that successful instruction is rarely one-size-fits-all and adapts her approach to the personality, strengths, challenges, and goals of each learner.

Families appreciate Bianca’s patience, compassion, versatility, and ability to connect with students. RISHI B.

Rishi is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a bachelors in computing science, and a minor in Math, as well as a certificate in advanced game programming from Sheridan College. Born in India, and immigrating to Canada when he was 3 years old, Rishi has lived in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Oakville, and, most recently, Toronto. Growing up all over Canada and frequently visiting his home country helped to developed in him a deep love for travel and making connections with people from all over the world. During these visits to India, he would spend much time with his extended family, specifically his younger siblings. Helping with his siblings school work fostered in him an immense passion for teaching. While completing his bachelors, Rishi chose to spend his spare time volunteering for organizations on campus that focused on education. Through these organizations he has visited elementary schools as a guest science teacher, helped with high school exam and university prep for newcomers to Canada, and helped university students with first year math courses. In addition to his volunteer experience, Rishi has also worked as a math, science, and English tutor for Sylvan Learning and Oxford Learning. As a tutor, Rishi is very capable of teaching a wide array of subjects, but loves nothing more than teaching math & English. His goal with his students is to breakdown the stereotype of math and English not being fun. For him, seeing the moment when a concept finally clicks in a students mind and they start enjoying what they are learning is incredibly rewarding.

ANTHONY M.

Anthony Mayadunne is a multi-disciplinary educator up to the university level in Mathematics (ALM, Harvard), English (MA, UBC), and Business (MBA, U of T). He is passionate about delivering a focused and exciting learning experience to his students—whether they are in Grade 6 … or pursuing their PhD. He is also a SAT trainer (integrating both English and Mathematics sections), and University Admissions Coach for undergraduate and graduate programs, having placed many students in leading universities around the world. When invited to teach Calculus in Engineering Outreach programs (Gr 9 – 12) at U of T Engineering, he developed an engaging approach to teach a famously challenging subject: Calculus. Later, completing his Masters in Mathematics for Teaching, he specialized in teaching Calculus to meet rigorous standards: AP/IB Calculus, Engineering Mathematics, and Mathematics in Arts & Science. His warm and engaging manner has led him to mentor many students in their academic and professional careers. He hopes to persuade the world that all people (including parents) are innate mathematicians, and that Calculus can bring as profound joy as Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, or Maurice Sendak’s Night Kitchen. So far, he has succeeded with about 50 people, and optimistically looks forward to the still 8 billion more people to go.
He has traveled extensively, living for many years in Japan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, and uses these experiences to write short stories, essays and poems. He describes himself in four verbs: I teach, I travel, I read, and sometimes, I write.

Vincent De J.

Vincent De Jesus is a teacher, musician, and creative technologist from San Antonio, Texas. His interests are at the intersection of arts, design and creative technology. He is a graduate of Southwestern University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies with a minor in philosophy (2009). Today he splits his time between performing music (in musical theater productions, recording studios and stages around the world) and teaching and tutoring. With over 15 years of teaching experience, he has taught multiple subjects including math, science, video game design, design thinking, 3D design and printing, music, drumming and creative technology. He loves cooking Mexican and Puerto Rican foods, playing music with friends, creating music in his home studio, and going on nature walks. He enjoys reading, discussing ideas and learning about how the human brain works.

STEPHEN C.

Stephen Carter has a BA, MA and PhD (ABD) in English literature. He was a University Teaching Assistant for five years at two Canadian universities, and he has taught and tutored elementary, high school, and college/university students for over ten years. As a teacher, Stephen helps students cultivate a love for learning, achieve academic success, and develop advanced skills in reading, writing, analysis, critical thinking and speaking.

Zoë M.

Zoë graduated magna cum laude from the University of Toronto, specializing in research psychology and minoring in English.
They graduated from York University with an MA in critical psychology, their thesis focusing on accessibility in undergraduate education.

Zoë’s passion is teaching and learning, and they have expertise in a variety of subjects. Most notably, they have been an SAT tutor for over ten years — tutoring 1-1, teaching intensive courses, designing lesson plans and curricula, training other instructors, and even writing an SAT Teacher’s Manual, which was sold to various test prep and tutoring companies, and which they still update yearly for personal use.

Zoë’s teaching style is reflexive, engaging, agile, and learner-centred, informed by their extensive knowledge of psychology and pedagogy, and enriched by their confidence in every student’s ability to succeed when given the right tools.

Hannah P. 

Hannah P. is a certified teacher. She grew up in Davie, FL, moving to University of Florida to complete her Undergraduate Degree. After graduating, she was accepted into Teach for America, where she taught at an underserved school so she could transform education and expand opportunity for all children, regardless of their economic background. While working in the classroom, Hannah’s passion for teaching further developed. She took on more leadership roles in her school so that she could impact more students than just her own. She became the Reading Department Chair her school, as well as the Model Teacher of the school to serve as a guide to help new teachers deliver effective and meaningful instruction. As well, she completed a Post Graduate Diploma at Florida State University where she received her Masters in Educational Leadership and Administration. Through her deep knowledge of instruction, her energetic and charismatic personality, her interactive and hands-on learning experiences, and the solid relationships she builds with her students, Hannah has helped the most fragile of students grow a love for learning. She finds that helping students reach their highest potential is the most rewarding experience.

MARAL G.

Maral has a master’s degree in civil engineering and gained extensive professional experience in the civil engineering field. Alongside her engineering background, she has years of experience tutoring mathematics across various grade levels. Tutoring students to achieve exceptional exam results is her goal. Maral believes students need to feel confident in their work and knows how to approach problems from multiple perspectives.
