KEVIN D.

Kevin is a classroom teacher who has two bachelor’s degrees in Education and Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary. During the school year Kevin teaches a Grade 3/4 class with the Calgary Board of Education. In the classroom Kevin has experience working with diverse school communities, unique student learning needs and uses a student-centric approach to instruction. Kevin has 10 years of tutoring experience and has tutored math and sciences for a wide range of grade levels. Through these experiences Kevin has continued to grow and adapt his teaching practice to better fit the needs of his students. In his spare time Kevin enjoys the outdoors, sports and trying new restaurants.

BRANDON A.

Brandon is currently pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Calgary, with an expected graduation in 2026. He holds a Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Pharmacology from the University of Alberta, completed in April 2023. Brandon has extensive experience in youth development and education, having served as a Youth Coordinator at the Boys & Girls Club and a Child & Youth Coordinator at the Northern Alberta YMCA. In these roles, he developed and facilitated educational programs tailored to meet children’s learning needs and foster academic growth.

Brandon also has a rich background in behavior management and educational support, highlighted by being a Classroom Behavior Manager and Teaching Assistant. He has consistently demonstrated leadership and commitment to creating supportive and enriching learning environments for students, promoting both academic and personal development.

Additionally, Brandon has been actively involved in mentorship and volunteer work, including roles as a Youth Mentor with the Youth Restorative Action Project and a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Additionally, He is bilingual in English and French, enhancing his ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of students.

JOSEPH S.

Joseph Schmaltz is a teacher who holds a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Studies through the West Kootenay Teacher Education Program (WKTEP) at the University of British Columbia. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Calgary, providing him with a strong foundation in scientific inquiry and analytical thinking.

Joseph’s volunteer work includes roles with the Alberta Junior Forest Wardens and The Howl Experience, where he focused on environmental education and youth engagement. He enjoys getting to know his students and building educational programming around their unique skills, requirements, and interests. When he’s not tutoring or teaching, you can catch him outside skiing, biking, climbing, swimming, or hiking. Joseph strives to create an inclusive and personalized educational experience for all students. He teaches all subjects but specializes in earth sciences, general science, outdoor education, math, social studies, and writing.

SAMUEL S

Samuel has Master’s degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Toronto. He has conducted basic biomedical research sciences for over a decade, with a focus on vascular biology. Samuel has had a depth of teaching professionally and privately in the biological sciences at the undergraduate and graduate levels including the professional MCAT exam.

Ivan Ly

Ivan is a passionate educator dedicated to helping students thrive. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and is currently pursuing a career in education in Teachers College at York University, specializing in the Junior/Intermediate divisions.

With extensive experience as a Kumon teaching assistant, a private tutor, and running an after-school math tutoring program at a TCDSB school, Ivan has developed a strong foundation in supporting student success. Additionally, Ivan’s student teaching experience with the TDSB has further honed his skills in creating engaging and effective learning environments.

Ivan is committed to providing personal, professional, and supportive tutoring to help his students reach their full potential. Mia G.

Hello, my name is Mia G. and I have been tutoring since 2021. I graduated from St. Mary’s University in December 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in psychology. I have experience tutoring all grades from preschool to seniors in college. I specialize in tutoring biology, psychology and English, but I have tutored all subjects. I can also tutor people who are interested in cooking and baking, dance, and college admissions. I have experience working with students who have anxiety, ADHD, Autism and Down Syndrome. I will be starting my master’s degree in personalized molecular medicine in August 2025 from UT Health San Antonio. After that my goal is to go to medical school to become a neonatal geneticist.

 

 

 

Zoë M.

Zoë graduated magna cum laude from the University of Toronto, specializing in research psychology and minoring in English.
They graduated from York University with an MA in critical psychology, their thesis focusing on accessibility in undergraduate education.

Zoë’s passion is teaching and learning, and they have expertise in a variety of subjects. Most notably, they have been an SAT tutor for over ten years — tutoring 1-1, teaching intensive courses, designing lesson plans and curricula, training other instructors, and even writing an SAT Teacher’s Manual, which was sold to various test prep and tutoring companies, and which they still update yearly for personal use.

Zoë’s teaching style is reflexive, engaging, agile, and learner-centred, informed by their extensive knowledge of psychology and pedagogy, and enriched by their confidence in every student’s ability to succeed when given the right tools.

MARZIA H.

Marzia is currently completing her undergraduate Honours degree in Cellular Molecular Microbial Biology with a minor in Psychology at the University of Calgary. Marzia has been tutoring young students for over 8 years, developing her own unique strategies and best practices along the way. Marzia’s passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education extends beyond tutoring. She has been working with Minds in Motion to deliver hands-on STEM concepts to groups of students from grades 1- 9 through summer camps, kid’s clubs, and classroom workshops. Marzia focuses on fostering excitement about the intricate world of STEM, creating an inclusive environment, and sparking curiosity in young minds.

Having worked extensively with students across different age groups and academic levels, Marzia is adept at tailoring lessons to meet the individual needs and learning styles of each student. She believes in creating a supportive and engaging environment where students feel empowered to reach their full potential. Marzia is known for her patient and encouraging approach and is skilled at building strong, positive relationships with students and parents alike.

In addition to Marzia’s passion for knowledge through reading and watching various genres of documentaries, she enjoys painting as a way to express creativity and relax. Marzia often incorporates random bits of obscure knowledge into her teaching, relating to her students, making learning more engaging and enjoyable!

 

 

 

Simone T.

Ms. Timbers joins Prep Academy Tutors with 10 years of teaching experience and has taught Preschool through Fourth grade in two different states. Ms. Timbers graduated From West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2014 with a degree in Elementary Education and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at St. Joseph’s University. She won the “Most Valuable Teacher Award” for elevating her student’s math scores tremendously during her time as a third-grade teacher in Arizona.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Timbers is a new mom and an only child. Her personal goal is to write a cookbook and she collects healing crystals.

 

MARIE CELESTE F.

Celeste graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston with a Bachelor of Honours in Arts and Science. She majored in Global Development Studies, a cross-disciplinary department teaching courses exploring politics, philosophy, economics, environmental justice, public relations, global governance, religion, history, geography, and social justice. Celeste was also a concurrent education student working to complete her teaching certification alongside her undergraduate degree. She is entering her final year of teacher’s college, completing three classroom placements and fulfilling her teachable subjects, history and geography. Celeste has been engaged in teaching since she began coaching volleyball at fourteen. This sparked her love for teaching and encouraged her to seek further opportunities. She has worked at Olympia Sports Camp as a counsellor and a summer schoolteacher for their outdoor ed high school leadership credit. She has taught grade nine English, science, and geography, as well as grade twelve English, grade ten world religions, grade ten civics and careers, and grade eleven world history while on placement. Celeste has experience working with elementary school students through her responsibility of caring for students from junior kindergarten to grade five at Pickering Colleges After Care Program. She has worked with the Helen Tufts Society in Kingston, where she was paired with a grade four student whom she met with once a week for tutoring. In her free time, Celeste enjoys being outside with nature, whether walking her dog Aussie, going for a bike ride, or playing pickleball. Celeste is honoured to be a part of a student’s success and learning in the same way her tutors were for her.
