Zainab H.

Hi, My name is Zainab and I’m passionate about helping students cultivate a love for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)  subjects! I recently completed my Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto and have worked as a teaching assistant for 7 University level STEM courses. I have also been involved in curriculum development at OCAD University and have published an academic paper on teaching computer science literacy and am working as a Course Instructor at OCAD University. My favorite part of teaching is seeing how much a student’s understanding of a subject can change from the start to the end of the semester. I also currently work as a User Experience Designer where I work to make technology more accessible for Blind and Partially Sighted Individuals. In my free time I like to read, paint and play volleyball!

Mitchell N.

Mitchell recently graduated from the University of Toronto, where he completed a Master of Science (MSc) through the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. For his MSc thesis, Mitchell conducted research at the Hospital for Sick Children in the lab of Dr. Lili-Naz Hazrati, where he studied the impact of mild traumatic brain injury (or concussion) in women’s brains. GALE M.

Gale is a mathematics and philosophy student at the University of Toronto. He has been working with children of all ages for more than five years, and has taught math, science and English as a private tutor for over three years. Gale is a former debate team captain and DECA champion, and spent a great deal of time coaching high school students in those competitions. Mathematics and the sciences are just a few of Gale’s many areas of interest; he loves to read novels (as long they’re older than fifty), play tennis and listen to music of all kinds.

Gale has always loved to teach, so he started working with children in early high school: first as a swim instructor, then as a teacher’s assistant, and finally as a private tutor. He has taught students as young as four, and as old as seventeen. Gale is very comfortable with kids, and knows how to make academic material as fun and engaging as it can be. Whether a child is struggling with a subject, or trying to excel in it, he can help them reach their academic goals.

Katherine C.

Katherine is completing her bachelor’s degree in math and physics from McGill University. She has attended both English and French educational institutions throughout her academic career. These include her studies at a French high school, Pensionnat Saint-Nom-de-Marie, as well as Vanier College to complete a DEC in Pure and Applied Science. In both of these schools, she consistently made the honour roll and excelled academically. Her most notable achievements would mostly be seen in her college years. There, she was appointed as a teaching assistant for several of the upper level mathematics courses where she helped students in courses ranging from Calculus to Linear Algebra. It was also during this time that she became a research assistant for her professor’s biology course and lead a team of other students through an experiment whose paper was eventually published in the Vanier Sigma Science Journal.

Despite being very occupied with her studies during her academic career, she began to take an interest in tutoring others a long time ago. As she went through high school, she saw her classmates struggle in subjects she both enjoyed and did so well in. It was then, at the age of 15, that she decided to start helping them after school. This is something that she would for years to come and now, at the age of 20, she continues to tutor, utilizing her vast knowledge and great experience in this field to help her students.
