DAVE M.
Hello! I’m Mr.Dave, and I’ve been helping students understand physics, math, and science for over 30 years. I started my tutoring career by answering an ad when I was in university, and I was amazed at how much fun it was to watch a student suddenly understand concepts they had been struggling with for months.
That first experience changed the course of my life, and led me into a lot more tutoring work, and a second Bachelor’s degree. Eventually, I found myself teaching physics, mathematics, and general science in a private high school for 25 years.
Now I’m transitioning my teaching to a more online medium, and I still love helping young people overcome their challenges in those tough courses.
My focus, especially in physics and science, is to help students really grasp the material conceptually first. Once they have a “gut feeling” about how things really work, students can quickly understand the deeper levels of what is going on.
I have developed a logical, step-by-step approach that really applies to all physics problems. I want to help students learn to know intuitively what to try next. I use a similar approach in teaching math – and in both subjects, I like using several different ways of explaining each idea; different students perceive and learn in different ways, and I love to figure out which approach will work best with each individual.
After 25 years of teaching high school and designing courses, I have gigabytes of images, video clips, handouts, practice problems, and lesson ideas. I’m ready to share those resources to help students not only get unstuck, but also re-discover how much fun learning can be.
I’ve found that once a student is able to overcome a few key points of frustration, their natural curiosity and interest in the subject can be rekindled – and once that happens, the sky is the limit!
If you’re feeling frustrated and confused, it’s time to get connected, get a nudge in the right direction, and get back to enjoying your courses!
