MIRA F.

Mira has been teaching for over 9 years, after graduating from Canisius College with her MEd. She has taken many Additional Qualification courses including Spec. Ed., Reading and Kindergarten and is currently working as a Kindergarten teacher in Toronto. Mira has experience working as a Spec. Ed. and ESL teacher with students from Grade 2 to Grade 8. She has worked with many children that are on IEPs, with exceptionalities such as ADHD, Gifted and ASD. Mira is qualified to tutor children in all areas, from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

HOOMAN R.

My name is Hooman Razavi. I graduated from University of Toronto with degree in Biochemistry in 2006 and then finished my B.Ed in 2007 at OISE. Since graduation, I have taught for the last twelve years in schools in Toronto and China and tutored many students from various backgrounds. I enjoy interactions at every level and love to see when my students ask questions, learn something new and share their ideas with me. I truly believe in the idea that success has more to do with hard work than natural depositions and try to cultivate good skills and love of learning in my students.
I enjoy playing Basketball, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Soccer and love reading Philosophical books especially classics to enrich my perspective on Education and life in general.

GEORGE Z.

George received his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in 2009 with a double major in Math and Chemistry, followed by a Bachelor of Education at Tyndale University specializing in Junior, Intermediate, and Senior levels. George’s diverse experiences working with students of all ages and backgrounds, as a classroom instructor, home tutor, and international teacher have framed his love of learning and passion to teach.

Following his B.Ed., George worked as a contract teacher in England in his first year and has gained invaluable experiences in a classroom setting. He has worked with students who excel at Math/Science as well as students with LD’s and helped them gain confidence and positive results. Since coming back from the UK, George have been teaching for a number of private institutes as well as 1-on-1 tutoring all across Ontario. George is also fluent in Mandarin and loves to play board games and watch basketball in his spare time.

NICOLE T.

Nicole joins Prep Academy with an extensive background working with youth in an educational context, both in and out of the classroom. She completed her undergraduate degree in 2013 at the University of Toronto in Life Sciences – majoring in Human Biology and double minoring in Physiology and Psychology. After taking a year off to travel, Nicole returned to pursue a Studio Arts certificate from Seneca College. She discovered her passion lay in education and making science learning accessible and enjoyable for all, using visual arts as a means to accomplish this. She then spent the following two years at the University of Toronto’s OISE pursuing a Masters of Teaching, graduating with qualifications in Junior/Intermediate Science and an additional qualification in Senior Biology. Her research focused on the effectiveness of Problem-based learning (PBL) strategies in intermediate science education. During this time Nicole worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Toronto teaching a second year Neuroscience course. With a variety of instructional roles in her portfolio (skating instructor, swimming instructor, Me to We Trip Facilitator, T.A., certified teacher, private tutor etc.) Nicole is equipped to teach a wide range of learners across a variety of subject areas and learning skills. She is a very visual learner herself, and frequently strives to incorporate art, colour, and creativity into content learning, no matter what the subject. She loves being outside, playing team sports (especially ice hockey and soccer), travelling, and surrounding herself with family, friends, and lots of food!

SOHUM V.

Sohum graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Sohum has a Post-Graduate Certificate specializing in autism and behavioral science from Seneca College. Her studies covered Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), intervention methods including Intensive Behavioural Analysis (IBI), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Verbal Behaviour Therapy (VBT) theory working with families and treatment teams. Sohum is currently a Junior/Intermediate teacher candidate in the Masters of Teaching program at the University of Toronto. Her educational experiences have given her the confidence and perseverance required in this progressive field of education. Her goal as a teacher is to create meaningful relationships with her students which promote inclusiveness, diversity, responsibility and cooperation. Sohum has three years of teaching experience working in an educational assistant at Milliken Mills High School and in her practicums in the Toronto District School Board where she fosters engaging and interactive lessons. In her spare time Sohum enjoys hiking, swimming, badminton, playing board games and as well spending time with her friends and family.

ATHI S.

Athi is a recent graduate from the University of Toronto, having completed his Honours Bachelor of Science in Conservation, Human Biology and Geoscience. As you can tell, he’s quite the STEAM fan and has shared his education by working at the Ontario Science Centre for the past 10 years! He is currently a Host Scientist and Science Educator, delivering curriculum-connected science and math programs to both the general public and school groups. You might also see him in Ministry of Education videos and hopes to be the next Bill Nye! He has been with Prep Academy Tutors since 2018, focusing on tutoring and helping students understand and excel in the maths and sciences. He knows firsthand that confidence in the course and balance are key factors in reaching success and is eager to help his students master those same skills! In his spare time, he enjoys playing chess, creating art with photography and furthering science literacy!

Andrew Plessas is an OCT Certified Teacher who graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from York University and a Bachelor of Education from UOIT in Intermediate and Senior levels. He later took Additional Qualification courses in Primary and Junior Education, allowing him to teach students of all grade levels. He is a passionate TDSB High School Teacher with a specialist in Biology and is currently teaching Science at Leaside High School. For over 15 years he has dedicated his time to working with youth, in camps, tutoring, volunteering in schools and teaching in private schools and with TDSB. He has worked with a diverse set of students who were behavioural, ESL and special needs students, who were autistic, nonverbal, and had ADHD, as well as Down syndrome, and has developed a keen ability to identify students strengths and weaknesses and work with their unique needs in order to create an individualized plan to help them succeed. He believes that with dedication and the right support all students can succeed.

Hello There!
I am Reetika and I believe one should do what they really feel happy about and is never tired of doing. This is my Fundamental of Life and this is why I opted Teaching science as my Career. I am a Research Scientist by Background( Majors in Genetics and Microbiology) but I eventually realized teaching Science is what makes me happy and cheerful. I love to teach and communicate/engage with young age groups of students. Looking forward to make Science an easy experience!

KATE M.

Kate earned her bachelor’s degree in Primary/Junior Education from York University’s Faculty of Education. She also holds a B.A. in Sociology and Criminology from the University of Toronto. While completing her Social Service Worker certification through Seneca College, Kate discovered her passion for working with kids and decided to pursue teaching as a career.

Kate has worked in various TDSB schools, an after school literacy program based out of an independent bookshop, and as a science camp counsellor. She has worked with students from Kindergarten to grade 8. Kate loves learning about her students’ communities and interests. She has also volunteered with Frontier College as a tutor for adults with learning disabilities and with Sunnybrook Hospital.

Kate is a born and raised Toronto resident who enjoys yoga, exploring the city’s many parks and ravines, and horseback riding.
