KELLY C.

Kelly is a certified teacher who really enjoys working with individual students and small groups of children to accelerate their learning and academic confidence. Teaching is Kelly’s passion and she was a full time teacher for 15 years in England and Spain in both private and state run schools. Kelly also has significant experience working with diverse learners (providing academic support, diagnosing learning needs and planning learning sequences). She has over 6 years of tutoring experience working with students from Grades 1 to 12 in a wide range of subjects. Tutoring offers Kelly the opportunity to determine individual learning needs, design personalized study habits and to develop a relationship of trust and confidence – a recipe for success!

JENNY L.

Jenny is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) teaching at St Matthew High School in Ottawa and is a Master of Education (M.Ed) candidate at the University of Ottawa. Jenny graduated from McMaster University with a BAH in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour. During her time at McMaster University, Jenny was the captain of the Varsity Women’s Lacrosse team. She also completed her B.Ed degree at Queen’s University.
Jenny is qualified to teach at the Primary and Junior level (K-6), Intermediate Mathematics (7-10), Intermediate/Senior Phys Ed (7-12), Intermediate/Senior English (7-12)Senior Social Studies (11-12), and Special Education. Moreover, Jenny has ample experience coaching Varsity Soccer, Hockey and Lacrosse and is a supervisor for the Athletic Council at her school. Jenny also coached the U-19 Ladyhawk Lacrosse team in Oakville, Ontario.
As a tutor and a mentor, Jenny shapes her pedagogy around deep learning; having students transcend surface level knowledge to retain information over longer periods of time. Jenny is energetic, supportive, and demands the best out of her students.

ALEXANDRA C.

Allie is an Ontario Certified Teacher with a Masters Degree in Developmental Psychology and Education. With over 10 years of experience in the field of education, Allie has taught Grades 1, 2 and 5 and currently teaches Grade 3 in Toronto. Alongside teaching her own class, she is also a Special Education Resource Teacher for students in kindergarten to Grade 8. Allie strongly believes that every child is capable of success. She works closely with each student to provide individualized support and active encouragement which is reinforced by establishing and maintaining close communication with families. Allie is dedicated to teaching the holistic student and creates engaging lessons that are centred around students’ interests and experiences. In her free time, Allie enjoys travelling, painting, dancing, and reading as many books as she possibly can. Though during the school year, she can usually be found on the couch with Netflix and her dog, Charlie.

JOEY O.

Joey is an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) teaching at Immaculata Catholic High School in Ottawa and is an M.Ed candidate for the Leadership, Evaluation, Curriculum and Policy Studies program at the University of Ottawa. Joey graduated from Queen’s University with a BAH in Global Development Studies and a minor in History. He also completed his B.Ed degree at Queen’s University. During his time at Queen’s, Joey was an undergraduate Teaching Assistant (TA) and tutor for first-year students. He also helped facilitate Research Essay Workshops in Joseph S. Stauffer Library.

Joey is qualified to teach 7-12 History, 7-12 FNMI Studies, 7-12 English, 7-12 Health and Physical Education, 7-10 Mathematics, 11-12 Social Studies, and K-12 Special Education. Moreover, he has ample experience coaching Varsity Hockey, Lacrosse, XC T&F and is a supervisor for the Black Student Association and the Athletic Council.

At the heart of Joey’s pedagogy is establishing trust to promote deep learning. Trust is multifaceted and we base our judgements of trustworthiness based on whether or not we believe a person possesses integrity, benevolence, and competence. In establishing authentic trust, Joey uses his strategies centered around emotional intelligence, namely, the ability to accurately perceive emotions in others; the ability to use emotions to facilitate thought; translating emotion into construction thought and action.

As a tutor and a mentor, Joey believes that the core of education is rooted in one word: relationships. In recognizing the importance of relationships, the complex aspects of trust, and the necessity to be emotionally intelligent, effective and authentic tutoring can take place.

 

JILL B.

Jill Ann has a Bachelor of Applied Science honours degree from the University of Guelph, as well as Advanced ECE and a TESL certificate. She has taught students for many years. She teaches students from Kindergarten through high school, as well as adult students. She primarily teaches English and math, but also helps with other subjects. Her passion is to help students learn and succeed.

STEPHANIE K.

Stephanie is an Ontario Certified Teacher. She graduated from York University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Sociology. In 2019, she graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Education in Primary/ Junior grade levels and a concentration in Exceptional Learners. Stephanie has taught in a variety of school settings, including both the Catholic and Public School Boards and Private Schools in the Primary and Junior Divisions. Stephanie also holds additional qualifications in Special Education and Teaching English Language Learners. Stephanie’s empathy, positive attitude, enthusiastic leadership and responsibility, are some of the characteristics which she brings forth as a result of her experiences with teaching students. She will continue to educate and inspire young minds as a teacher. Overall, her goal is to support all students’ needs and to get children excited about learning!
Outside of the classroom and tutoring, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, staying active by going to the gym and yoga.

CAVELL B.

Cavell is a highly skilled and very experienced teacher. She has her Master’s in Curriculum Design and has been an Educator for over 20 years. Cavell is very passionate about helping children succeed and find their way to discovering how they can be a successful learner.
Cavell’s expertise covers a broad range of skills and her career has been vast and full of adventure. Cavell has been from one side of Canada to the other, as a classroom teacher, an Education Consultant for the Yukon, and as an Education Coordinator here in Alberta.
Cavell’s energy for learning and building relationships with her students shines through in every conversation. Cavell’s knowledge in curriculum allows her to be able to assist in many academic areas across a broad range of ages. She welcomes early learners as well as those children in the higher grades.

 

MEAGHAN H.

Resilient, kind, and innovative primary educator with a passion for helping others in hopes of fostering a curiosity for lifelong learning among Canada’s youth. Meaghan is committed to developing positive relationships within the classroom, connecting students to the outside world through the power of knowledge while upholding both the highest academic and ethical standards. She approaches learning through a holistic lens, placing equal emphasis on both academics and social-emotional learning. Meaghan incorporates nature and physical activity into daily life, both in a personal and professional setting. Her strong ability to work well in dynamic team environments is demonstrated through years of participation within successful sports and academic teams.

NICK H.

Nick is a Grade 5/6 teacher at a private school downtown Toronto and has 4 years of teaching experience. Nick has a Bachelor’s in Education from Queen’s University, specializing in Primary Junior. Nick has an undergrad degree from the University of Ottawa with a Major in Geography and a Minor in Sociology.

OLIVIA U.

Olivia is an Ontario Certified Teacher. She grew up in Toronto and attended the University of Toronto where she completed her Undergraduate Degree as well as her Bachelor of Education. She also has a Master of Arts in Dance Performance in Traditional Irish Dance from the University of Limerick, Ireland. Olivia is a competitive Irish dancer and has been dancing since the age of 7. Through dance, Olivia discovered her love of working with children. Olivia loves to travel, and has frequently with her family. She frequently travels to Tegucigalpa, Honduras to a children’s home where Olivia works with the children in a variety of ways. Olivia has a passion for special education, this has come from her travels as well as her early teen volunteer work at the Spiral Garden summer camp (operated at Holland Bloorview Rehabilitation Hospital). She has spent many summers volunteering with children with special needs and through that experience has discovered her love of teaching. Olivia has taken several additional qualifications in special education to deepen her knowledge of teaching and how best to meet the needs of her students. Olivia is also fluent in French, having spent many years in French education. Olivia is an energetic individual who believes that creating a positive relationship with a child is the best way to engage them in learning. Olivia loves to connect with her students through common interests.
