CYNTHIA Z.
Cynthia grew up in Calgary, and moved to Toronto almost 10 years ago. She studied at McGill University receiving a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Finance. She’s spent her entire career working in commercial real estate, working in both lending and development.
Her interest in teaching started since she went to university- tutoring for a private company in Calgary during her summer’s back from school, and eventually in Toronto for Prep Academy.
Cynthia really enjoys the collaboration between student, parent and teacher and the witnessing the progress made in each student she teaches. Much like the relationships she fosters in her daily 9-5, she brings the same energy, excitement, and trust with her to students and their families. She strives to ensure that her students come out of the sessions more confident, and interested in the material.
SHUBHAYAN K.
Shubhayan earned his Master’s Degree in Applications of Mathematics at the Chennai Mathematical Institute in 2013 and is currently pursuing independent studies in Machine Learning and Data Science.
With over 6 years of experience in Mathematics teaching and tutoring at various levels ranging from middle school to professional education, he incorporates his love for the subject with a passion for sharing and exchanging knowledge to create a unique learning experience for each of his students.
His study resources extend beyond books and lectures, and out into the real world and online math learning platforms. He makes efficient use of tools like Desmos and Geogebra, and refers to captivating sources like Numberphile and 3Blue1Brown on YouTube for inspiration.
He is a former candidate delegate for the World Cube Association, and his special skills and interests include Cooking, Karaoke, Board Games and being able to solve a Rubik’s Cube in under twenty seconds, one handed.
JENNY C.
Jenny is a K-12 Ontario Certified Teacher who has specializations in Math and French. Jenny is currently a secondary teacher working with Halton District School Board and Toronto District School Board teaching Core French, French Immersion, Mathematics and Mandarin. She has experience and certifications in SSAT Prep, and IB programs and taken on various roles; teacher, mentor, tutor, coach and supervisor. Jenny believes that all students will succeed when given the right tools and resources based on the needs of the student. In her free time, she enjoys travelling, cooking, badminton, volleyball and exploring new music.
Sally B.
Sally graduated from Princeton University with honours, where she studied English Literature with a minor in Global Health & Health Policy. She subsequently pursued pre-medical sciences training at Columbia University, before obtaining a Master of Philosophy in Health, Medicine, and Society at the University of Cambridge. She lives between Cambridge (UK) and Toronto, where she works with students & families as a private tutor and admissions consultant.
Aiyana K.
Aiyana has an Honours Bachelor of Science in Physiology, Genetics, and Psychology from the University of Toronto. She has 7+ years of experience working with children with and without special needs as a tutor, camp counsellor, volunteer caretaker, and child life volunteer at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. In her current position as a clinical research coordinator at The Hospital for Sick Children, Aiyana enjoys interacting with children and their families and educating them about the ongoing research studies in the department.
Aiyana has a holistic approach to tutoring. She understands that a student’s mindset, study habits and test-taking skills are just as important as their understanding of core material when achieving academic success. She is passionate and knowledgeable yet approachable and friendly. Aiyana hopes to help her students gain confidence in their academics by breaking down concepts, adopting healthy study habits and having a positive mindset. In her free time, Aiyana enjoys exploring the city, spending time with friends and family, and walking her cockapoo, Leo.
Christine L.
Christine J. Loh, PMP, ISTQB certified and is a Manager of Data Science at a tech start-up. A former national mathematics contest competitor from Toronto, Ontario, she earned her bachelors from the University of Toronto. Her students come from a diverse background and needs (AP/IB/remedial/SAT/SSAT/PSAT/GMAT/competitions ie. Caribou, Canadian Math League, Waterloo contests, Kangaroo, Beaver etc) She collaborates with parents, tutoring companies, consultants, and organizations to promote mathematics excellence and equity for young people. Her students have gained interviews to the University of Toronto Schools, scored in the top 2-15% of admission tests, top 7-30% of worldwide/national math contests. top 7% in Ontario, and top 10% in Peel District School Board. Christine has been recognized as the Tutor of the Month, for her efforts. She has also published an article in “Authority Magazine” entitled “5 Things You Need To Know To Be A Highly Effective Educator”. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, chess, travelling, and playing the violin.
KELLY C.
Kelly is a certified teacher who really enjoys working with individual students and small groups of children to accelerate their learning and academic confidence. Teaching is Kelly’s passion and she was a full time teacher for 15 years in England and Spain in both private and state run schools. Kelly also has significant experience working with diverse learners (providing academic support, diagnosing learning needs and planning learning sequences). She has over 6 years of tutoring experience working with students from Grades 1 to 12 in a wide range of subjects. Tutoring offers Kelly the opportunity to determine individual learning needs, design personalized study habits and to develop a relationship of trust and confidence – a recipe for success!
CHRISTINA G.
While completing her undergraduate studies at McGill, Christina tutored on behalf of the Sociology department, preparing students for upcoming exams and assignments. As well, Christina volunteered at the essay writing center, where she edited and assisted students with papers.
Christina is passionate about literacy and believes that skills in reading and writing are fundamental to success in any subject. She has worked extensively with students with developmental and processing problems, working to help the students overcome difficulties and obstacles. She is trained and very experienced in SAT and SSAT preparation as well as assisting students with writing personal statements of excellence. She teaches students studying skills, test-taking strategies, and how to overcome test-related anxiety. As well, Christina specializes in preparing students to transition from public to private schools. Her preparation is exhaustive, including test-taking prep, interview prep for the student, and interview prep for the parents.
Christina believes in developing and fostering relationships with each student to create a comfortable environment that allows the students to flourish and learn. She is a firm advocate for different learning styles and tries to incorporate a variety of techniques that deviate from standardized education, as she considers each student’s learning style to be unique and accommodable.
AMMARAH S.
An educator for eight years in Canada, the US, China, and the UAE, Ammarah has taught STEM subjects and standardized test preps. The international experience she has gained over the years has made her adept at developing and delivering plans that reach students with unique learning styles. Ammarah is a passionate teacher with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and truly enjoys the STEM subject area.
