Wajd A.
Wajd is passionate about helping students succeed and currently serves as a teaching assistant at Western University in advanced Medical Science courses. Her teaching journey began in high school, where she volunteered as a kindergarten teacher assistant and a library assistant for Westmount Public School, and then proceeded to one-on-one tutor her high school peers in math and science subjects as requested by teachers. Through these experiences, Wajd has proven to many students that no goal is impossible to achieve, as long as they have the right guidance and resources. Beyond academia, Wajd thrives in leadership and community roles, as highlighted by her three-year experience as a Western International Ambassador, Peer Guide, and a librarian at Weldon. She supports multiple projects yearly, including international orientation planning. As described by many, Wajd is a social butterfly who cherishes opportunities to connect with others and can often be found in taekwondo and belly dancing classes, where she continues to build friendships and explore new passions.
Arathi C.
Arathi is a passionate and enthusiastic tutor who has immense love for the subjects, Science and Mathematics. She holds an Engineering degree in Electronics and Communication, as well as a Master’s in Human Resources and Marketing Management (MBA). She is also a dedicated reading coach with the Strong Start Reading Program, supporting early literacy development and helping children build the foundational skills needed to become confident readers. With a diverse background and a passion for empowering others, Arathi combines analytical thinking with strong interpersonal skills to make a positive impact in her community. Her love for children and the desire to share knowledge made her choose the career interest in teaching. She values lifelong learning, thrives in collaborative environments and finds immense pleasure in helping children realize their potential. Her balanced mix of determination and kindness allows her to build meaningful relationships while achieving her goals with integrity and focus. Arathi believes that a good teacher’s success is when she is appreciated and well recieved by her students.
Dr. Stephen H.
Dr. Stephen H. (he/they) holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Physics and Bachelors degrees from Rutgers University in Physics and Computer Science. They’ve worked as an instructor at Penn and Swarthmore and know what it takes to excel in the college classroom. They use thoughtful and compassionate teaching strategies to identify each student’s unique skills and specific needs and help them to improve both their performance and their understanding of challenging material. Stephen is attentive to the many stresses that students experience in todays highly competitive academic environment and is passionate about supporting the wellbeing of their students as they work to deepen their understanding and master challenging content.
Michael B.
Michael is a third-year undergraduate student at Western University pursuing an Honours Double Major in Biochemistry and Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences. An aspiring physician with a passion for learning, he was recognized with AP Calculus and Statistics awards in 2023, scoring top marks on AP exams, and has since maintained a near-perfect 3.94 GPA. Since 2019, Michael has worked in education, serving as a teaching assistant at Spirit of Math Schools and Villanova College, as well as a private tutor. As a math and science mentor, he teaches with enthusiasm, inspiring students to approach science with curiosity and discovery. Outside academics, Michael enjoys playing the saxophone, chess, golf, and biking. In addition, Michael devotes his time to social work by volunteering and his local food bank as well as acting as the founder of the BEAM group, a student initiative targeted at providing academic mentorship to underprivileged students.
Tom B.
The joy and challenge of mathematics has always been a large part of Tom’s life, from participating in maths olympiads and running revision classes at school to his masters’ degree at Warwick University and beyond to ‘recreational’ reading on infinity, statistics or symmetry. He finds the purity of the subject, the neatness and objectivity, fascinating, and brings his enthusiasm and deep understanding to his teaching.
Since teaching roles at University, Tom has been accepting students for tuition both online and in person, and ten years after graduating he has coached dozens of students through their studies and exams at a high level. With a focus on high school math and beyond, Tom brings an understanding of calculus and algebra which allows him to provide students operating at the upper end of their school careers with insights and context they will not find on the regular curriculum, and does so in a friendly and informal manner.
Outside of mathematics, Tom is a keen outdoorsman and can often be found attached to a rope and up a cliff or running on the many trails in the sea to sky corridor (all of which seem to be uphill). He enjoys creative writing, loud music and runs a dungeons and dragons game for friends in Squamish and Whistler.
James C.
James is a teacher who can teach in British Columbia, California and Ontario. He grew up in northern BC and completed post-secondary studies in Alberta and Ontario before going to California to start his career. He has taught students from Gr. 6 to post-secondary (mostly in the STEM subjects from Computer Studies to Calculus to Chemistry and Physics). Outdoor education was always in the mix from running an outdoor programme for a school board to teaching skiing and white-water kayaking. He was selected to create and review online Physics and Chemistry for both Ontario high schools and later within the Ontario College system; these experiences deepened his understanding of barriers to success in students who had already experienced frustration in math or science. Empowering students to move from discouragement to a growth mindset has been the fulfilling part of his career. A move to Squamish after 30 years of teaching has expanded outdoor adventures but he still longs to help students take on challenges and to also find some fun in the work.
Trey B.
Trey is a certified high school math teacher and tutor from New Orleans, specializing in everything from 6th grade math to Precalculus. Currently entering his fifth year as a high school educator, Trey has taught a variety of subjects, including Honors Geometry, Honors Precalculus, and Algebra 2. This will be his second year at Isidore Newman School. A proud graduate of Holy Cross School, Trey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Math Education from Xavier University of Louisiana and a Master’s of Science in Applied Mathematics from Elizabeth State University.
With several years of experience tutoring in both one-on-one and small group settings, Trey has helped undergraduate students during his time in graduate school and continues to support students outside the classroom. He has a deep love for mathematics and is enthusiastic about sharing that passion with the students he works with. His dedication to student success is evident as he enjoys seeing students grow in both their mathematical abilities and their self-confidence.
When he’s not teaching or tutoring, Trey is a basketball enthusiast and enjoys rollerblading. Trey believes that “Math isn’t just a subject; it’s the formula for success.” His approach to tutoring is not only to help students achieve academic success but also to make the learning process engaging and, dare we say, a little bit fun.
Josianne G.
Josianne is a passionate tutor specializing in mathematics and science. She has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, with majors in biology and mathematics, and is currently working on her master’s degree. For the past 5 years, she has been teaching at a high school in Whitehorse, Yukon. She also has experience tutoring students of a variety of levels. Josianne is bilingual, speaking both English and French.
Ensuring good communication, having clear expectations, preparing engaging lessons, and helping students achieve their goals are at the core of her philosophy as a teacher. She always makes sure to adapt the lessons to each student’s needs and create an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. The Yukon uses British Columbia’s curriculum, so she is very familiar with the learning objectives and the big ideas that are taught in schools. Luke graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics. Though he completed his degree in Arizona, he has primarily lived in the Boise area since 2016. During his undergraduate studies, Luke served as a math and physics tutor at the university’s tutoring center and led discussion groups for an introductory physics course for engineering students. He is passionate about communicating the importance of science and enjoys deepening his technical understanding through collaborative, thoughtful discussion. Luke plans to pursue a master’s degree in Atmospheric Science, focusing on weather modeling. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, fly fishing, and working in the garden.
