Walker J.

Walker is an Idaho native, born and raised in Idaho Falls. He moved to Boise in 2023 and is currently a full-time Junior at Boise State University, majoring in Construction Management with a minor in Spanish. A high achiever in high school, Walker served as Senior Class President before graduating summa cum laude with a 4.2 GPA. During that time he worked as a tutor for his twin sister who struggled with information retention. By using real-world scenarios and hands-on examples, he made learning more engaging, and discovered a genuine passion for teaching in the process. Instead of lecturing, Walker continues to use a conversational, student-centered approach, encouraging dialogue and active thinking. He looks forward to building meaningful connections with each of his students and supporting their growth through patience and collaboration.

David R.

“Salud, pesetas, amor, y tiempo para gozarlos,” “Health, wealth, love, and time to enjoy them ” is the motto of David R. He is a certified teacher in secondary social sciences grades 6-12, speaks Spanish and is working on his Creole. He grew up in Westfield, New Jersey with a profound respect for history and other cultures and languages. Since he was 17, he has worked with children from pre-k all the way to being seniors in high school. He completed his Undergraduate in history at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania in 2009. To further his education, he went on to study the social sciences such as geography, civics, political science, macro and micro economics, psychology, anthropology, sociology, US history, world and ancient history, in more depth at Rutgers University and Union County College until 2012.

After moving to Florida in 2012, he quickly became a substitute teacher in Collier County Public Schools. He worked his way to becoming a certifiedteacher at FGCU through the Teacher Immersion Program. His goal is to make informed citizens that are capable of making decisions and being able to differentiate truth from opinion. He has years of experience teaching various subjects such as ELA, Spanish, and, of course, various social studies subjects. Fostering the need for knowledge, the need for objectivity, to embrace our humanity and work together are at the forefront of his goals.

He currently resides in Naples, Florida with his fiancé and two children; his four-year-old daughter and one and a half year old son…who somehow is already in his terrible twos. His special interests vary greatly, much like the subjects he teaches; from sci-fi fantasy classics like Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, anything by Isaac Asimov and Max Brooks to Shakespeare and Ernest Hemingway. Anime has always been a favorite form of media as well. Playing, fixing, and modifying his guitars and bass guitars is also one of his hobbies; he cannot wait to teach his children music.

Justin E.

He has taught and supported students from kindergarten through college in Social Studies and has also developed a strong record of success teaching English at every level and various subjects of Math through eighth grade. Justin’s students show noticeable improvement under his instruction, with many seeing an increase in their test scores and overall grades by at least two levels. Outside of the classroom, Justin brings his love for history into his hobbies. He enjoys playing video games like Assassin’s Creed for their historical settings, as well as reading both history books and science fiction novels. These interests show his belief that learning goes beyond the classroom, and he strives to share that excitement with every student he works with.

He has taught learners in every grade and over fifteen subjects, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Earth Science, Reading, and Language Arts.  Dr. Barclay holds a Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Maryland at College Park, a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Western Michigan University, a Master’s of Science in Logic, Computation and Philosophy from Carnegie Mellon University, and PhD in Philosophy from the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Barclay’s pedagogy has been acknowledged by others. In 2019, he was awarded the Graduate School’s Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for AY 2018. This achievement is given to the top 2% of 4,000 Graduate Assistants in a given year.

Dr. Barclay has a range of experience in private tutoring, including tutoring students whose native language is not English. He understands that tutoring is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and, consequently, aims to work with students and their families to understand the unique needs of the students. To that end, Dr. Barclay tries to create a tailored tutoring approach, specific to the learner by walking the student through a range of assignments, including homework assignments and projects. When necessary, Dr. Barclay even communicates with the student’s teachers about missed work and additional resources that could enrich the student’s education. His commitment and wholistic approach to tutoring is seen in the success of his students – many of whom see significant improvements in test scores and overall GPA.

Finally, it should be noted that the breadth of Dr. Barclay’s teaching experience has given him opportunities to teach a wide range of students from the general student population to students with learning, mental, or physical disabilities. Indeed, some of Dr. Barclay’s students with special needs continued to be tutored by him even after graduating high school. Through his teaching experiences, Dr. Barclay recognizes that learning is a life-long journey and he is happy to play a role in the learner’s journey.

Doug Joubert is an accredited elementary and middle school teacher, receiving his permanent teaching certificate from the State of Louisiana in June of 1982. Mr. Joubert has taught mostly in middle school in a self-contained classroom. Though he is credentialed to teach all subjects in grades 1-8, he considers middle school U.S. History, Math, Language Arts, and Literature his strongest subjects. From 1997 through 2024, he served in various capacities at Christian Brothers School, including the lead 5th grade teacher, tutoring students in methods to get “caught up” to the rigorous CBS advanced placement programs he taught; creating a program for students transitioning from elementary to middle school that emphasized study skills, note taking, organizational skills, and more; teaching project-based Computer Science the last ten years at CBS in addition to his Director of Technology responsibilities. Mr. Joubert truly believes in meeting his students where they are. He believes very strongly in the specific tenet of the founder of the Christian Brothers, John Baptist de La Salle, that in order to teach effectively, he must touch the hearts of his students.
