Lauren S.

Lauren Santana is a Certified Teacher in the state of Florida and Illinois. She grew up in Tampa, Florida. Lauren completed her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education at Nova Southeastern University. She has an endorsement in reading and ESOL. She is also experienced in Wilson Fundations and the Wilson Reading System. Lauren has been teaching for five years and enjoys building relationships with her students and growing her scholars love for learning. Lauren loves to involve scholars by creating hands on, engaging activities that challenge conceptual understanding and enforce critical thinking skills. When Lauren is not teaching or tutoring during the school year, she travels with her family and get lost in a good book

Samantha T.

A true New Yorker, Samantha started her educational journey at the Nightingale Bamford School in NYC before pursuing a degree in Communications at Syracuse University, where she graduated cum laude. Following graduation, Samantha spent over a decade working in Public Relations, where she honed her communication skills and problem-solving abilities.

Now, she has set her sights on a new path, and is attending Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education, where she is working towards her goal of becoming a School Counselor. Fueled by a strong passion for working with children and helping them unlock their full potential, Samantha takes great pride in her ability to simplify complex concepts into easily digestible formats for kids of all ages. As a tutor, her expertise lies in reading comprehension, writing, and executive function skill building. In her spare time, she enjoys going to museums, taking long walks in Central Park, and exploring all that NYC has to offer.

TARA B.

Hi my name is Tara and I am a high school teacher in the subject areas of English and Geography mainly. I have over seven years of teaching experience in both these subjects and in Special Education. I have also taught on a 1-1 basis for learners both in mainstream and with special educational needs. I have taught English as an additional language to many learners who have arrived to the country with little to no English. I also have experience in teaching children in elementary school both in mainstream and in special education too.

I studied a three year Joint Bachelor of Arts degree in the subjects of English & Geography and a two year Professional Masters of Education, both in University College Cork in the Republic of Ireland.

I have made the exciting move to North Vancouver from Ireland and I am very excited to develop my skills and teaching experience here. I really enjoy working with children and I feel a great sense of reward when they develop their understanding of areas that were once very difficult for them to learn about and comprehend. I also love to create a learning environment where the learner feels confident to ask questions and engage in a way that they feel excited to learn. I create this learning experience by having multi-sensory classes therefore each learner can thrive in a way that suits their learning style and needs.

Nava A.

Nava is a certified teacher who graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She also holds an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood and is currently working on her Montessori certification. Nava has taught internationally as well as in Canada and the United States. She has had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of students from different backgrounds and enjoys instilling a love of learning in her students. Nava enjoys baking, making jewelry and would like to travel more in the future. Nava enjoys discovering techniques to help her students better understand the content.

ANGELO K.

Angelo Kontos is enjoying a long and rewarding career in education. Angelo has worked in a variety of roles for over twenty years, including being a Global Studies and English teacher, and curricular head. After gaining several years of experience teaching and developing courses, Angelo realized how important it was to a school to have passionate and caring vice-principals and principals, so he made a rewarding transition into administration and works as a secondary school principal with the Peel District School Board. He thrives on the daily challenges of leading a busy high school and the energy of his students. Angelo is a passionate learner, and often says the best school leaders always think of themselves as teachers first. Before completing his teaching certification, Angelo earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours Degree with York University. Over the years Angelo has added several qualifications to his professional practice, including specialists in Writing and Contemporary Studies. Angelo loves writing and he recently self-published a novel called The Tournament. In his spare time, when he is not writing, Angelo is reading, exercising, or taking his adorable but highly sensitive dog for walks.

Joshua L.

Josh is a Certified Teacher, having completed his Bachelor of Education at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Having an Undergraduate Degree in Biology and a Minor in English Literature gives him backgrounds in Science, Math, and Language Arts to draw from as a tutor. He believes in having a strong relationship with students as a means to build their confidence, using their interests to inspire their curiosity, and developing good study habits. Alongside learning all sorts of weird and wonderful trivia, Josh also enjoys playing guitar, creating and performing songs, playing video games, badminton, and being awestruck by the vastness of space.

HEIDI S.

Heidi Seibert is an Ontario Certified Teacher. She is from Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she completed a BA from Dalhousie University, majoring in Russian and Spanish. Between University and beginning her career as a teacher, Heidi lived and travelled in Japan where she taught English to students of various ages. After living overseas, Heidi spent some time in Central America furthering her love of languages. Heidi then returned to Canada and completed a BEd from Mount Saint Vincent University before moving to Toronto where she has been a teacher for over 20 years. Heidi has worked predominantly in grades 2-6 where she has gained a wealth of experience in both literacy and numeracy. For the last few years of her career, she has been an English as a Second Language teacher as well as a Special Education teacher. This role has been particularly rewarding and Heidi has gained a lot of knowledge in how children learn to read. In her free time, Heidi enjoys long walks, baking, photography and of course reading. Heidi contributes to her school environment by initiating new learning opportunities for her students, organizes clubs and also volunteers with the CNIB. Heidi continues to have a passion for travel and learning from others.

Mikayla P.

Mikayla grew up and studied in Prince Edward Island, Canada. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English. During this degree she took an Introduction to Education course as an elective; this is where her passion for education and teaching was born. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Education degree, specializing in Elementary, Indigenous, and International Education, also with UPEI. As a part of her Bachelor of Education degree she had the opportunity to travel to New Zealand to complete her practicum. This opened her eyes to new teaching methodologies and incorporating cultural awareness in the classroom. It also fostered a deep love of travel and openness to new experiences. Since 2018, Mikayla has taught in classrooms from K-9. She has experience with all subjects in the elementary curriculum, but her passion lies with literacy. This past year, Mikayla worked with students both in school and also after school as a tutor, with students who needed extra support in literacy. It was the favorite part of her day to meet with these students and build their confidence and skills in both reading and writing. Her approach is student centered, focusing on students strengths and interests. Her belief is that learning should be engaging, positive, and approachable. Mikayla loves teaching so much that she is constantly practicing at home teaching her dog, Gunner, lots of new tricks.

I started my career in Northern Manitoba, eventually settling down in the Southwest, teaching Literacy and English Language Arts. I am positive and energetic, and have taught students from Elementary to Senior High School. I am very passionate about education and always seek meaningful connections and creative ways to engage my students.
