Lizzie M.
Lizzie is a UK Certified Teacher with a rich and varied background supporting students in their learning and development. After earning her BA (Honours) in History and Politics, she began her career as an Elementary School Assistant, working with small groups across core subject areas.
Her love of travel led her to unique experiences abroad, including working as a scuba dive instructor and spending time at a marine biology research camp in Madagascar. She later returned to her passion for education, earning her Cambridge certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, followed by her UK teaching qualification.
Lizzie went on to teach as a High School Humanities Teacher in the UK, while also providing private tutoring focused on time management, study skills, and overall academic support. James O.
James is a veteran educator with 25 years of experience in the High School English Language Arts classroom, where he has taught every grade and ability level. While his formal teaching background is rooted in ELA, he is a versatile scholar capable of tutoring across the broader Humanities, including History, Government, Social Studies, and Philosophy. A double alumnus of Quinnipiac University, James holds both a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Education, and he furthered his expertise by earning a Sixth-Year Degree from the University of New England. From guiding honors students through complex literary analysis to helping reluctant learners find their voice, James has a proven track record of making even the most daunting subjects accessible and engaging. He has spent over two decades mastering a wide variety of curricula and has extensive experience with standardized test prep and the high-stakes art of the college essay. James believes that tutoring is most effective when it fosters true student agency and confidence, and he treats every session as a partnership tailored to each student’s unique learning style. When he isn’t helping students unpack the complexities of a well-crafted thesis statement, James can almost certainly be found on the water. An avid boater with a passion for warmer climates and the great outdoors, he brings that same sense of adventure and steady navigation to his work with his students. With James at the helm, students don’t just survive their coursework; they master the skills to chart their own course to academic success.
Theresa R.
Throughout her many years at school, Theresa R. worked to create a learning environment where ideas can flow freely and expanding knowledge is the name of the game. She learned to share her values and teaching experiences with others all the way back in high school, when her English teachers allowed her to begin tutoring other students in the ways of reading and writing. Following this, she graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a degree in English, alongside a minor in History. From there, she went on to get her Master’s in Literature at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she not only focused on writing, literature, and grammar, but also took several classes in history, from Native Americans in the U.S. to women’s place in Europe during war times. Though her focus these days has been on her job in generative A.I. for Google’s Gemini, helping and tutoring others has been a passion that she wants to pursue once more. She plans to bring her excitement for learning, as well as her skills in American Sign Language (ASL) that she picked up while in Lafayette, to help young people in today’s educational environment. She provides a hands-on learning experience for those who may be struggling and brings a passion for literature and history that is infectious, all while fostering a safe and fun environment for children of all ages.
Luke H.
Luke is a dedicated tutor based in Marietta, Georgia, bringing a rare combination of academic excellence and real-world resilience to every student he works with. A four-time consecutive Dean’s List honoree at Kennesaw State University, Luke graduated with honors in Biology in December 2025 and has since been accepted into KSU’s Master of Science in Integrative Biology program. His ability to connect with students of all ages is no accident. Luke is the youngest in his family, both his parents were the youngest in theirs, and he spent years studying alongside people much younger than himself after returning to college at 38, giving him a natural ease in spanning generations. His teaching instincts were recognized early at KSU, where his own classmates elected him (despite the position not being an election!) as their Supplemental Instruction leader for Introduction to Biology while he was still taking the course, a distinction that speaks for itself.
Having personally navigated diagnoses of ADHD and OCD throughout his studies, Luke brings genuine empathy and creative problem-solving to students who learn differently. His sessions are built around analogies, drawing concepts out visually, and focusing only on the very next step so students never feel overwhelmed. He looks forward to working with students from elementary through high school in Science, English, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies. When he is not tutoring, Luke is a huge nerd who has to keep busy, spending his time remodelling, painting miniatures, playing bass, tinkering with hobby electronics, and living by his personal motto: “No growth in comfort, no comfort in growth.”
Rich T.
This summer, Rich and his labradoodle, Bernie, drove 6,800 kilometers from Maine in the US to BC. His family joined him in Squamish as he pursues a Master of Education in Social Studies Education from UBC. Before becoming a teacher, Rich worked as a trial lawyer arguing cases in criminal court. He traded closing arguments for something far more rewarding: the moment a student finally “gets it”.
With over 16 years of teaching experience in both private and public schools, Rich has helped thousands of young people of all abilities overcome obstacles and improve as students. Succeeding in school is neither simple nor easy. But being a “good student” requires skills and a change in mindset that can be learned. It starts with a deep breath and continues with a fresh approach to learning. That new approach could be as basic as creating a system for tracking assignments or as complex as learning new ways to synthesize information into an essay. Everyone can improve. All students can learn hard things. Complicated subjects can be broken down into simpler pieces. Step-by-step, learning happens. Rich is dedicated to helping students believe in themselves and reach for results they can be proud of.
When not in the classroom himself, you’ll find Rich training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, playing the guitar, or watching movies with his family.
Corinne B.
Throughout her 25+ years of classroom teaching, Corinne B. relied upon several core principles to ensure successful student learning. First, students are participants in the learning process; they bring themselves and their experiences to it. They are not empty vessels for expert instructors to fill with information. Whether the student is 5 years of age, or 50, each holds a wealth of ideas, memories, skills and feelings – and these form the ground of all learning. Second, she values questions and answers equally; a student’s evolving intellectual confidence means demonstrating both ways of knowing. Finally, a student should be able to apply what they are studying to the everyday world; to make the abstract into something observable or measurable. Corinne’s instructional approach has been validated by the academic success of hundreds of her students, and by twice being granted the DePaul University Excellence in Teaching Award (2007 & 2024). Corinne holds a doctorate in sociology from the University of Chicago, and has designed multi-disciplinary teaching curricula and lessons for many years. Her work in single-student education is marked by an individualized approach emphasizing the interests and talents of the pupil. Learning goals and metrics for successful evaluation are shared with students and parents/guardians at the outset of the tutoring relationship, and updated as the pupil’s educational experience unfolds.

Meghan P.
Meghan has an MA in History and a BA (double major) in Classics and International Development from McGill University. She is in the final stages of completing her PhD in History and Classics at Yale University. Meghan has published a number of articles in academic publications and presented her research at conferences around the world. She speaks three languages fluently (English, French, and Romanian) and works in several others (Italian, German, Latin, and Ancient Greek).
Meghan is a passionate teacher who believes that every student is capable of excellence. Her approach is characterized by empathy, patience, and kindness. With over 15 years of experience in higher education, Meghan is sympathetic to the pressures modern students face: difficulties in focus, wavering confidence, and the temptation of unethical AI use among others. Meghan has had particular success in motivating students who were especially shy, withdrawn, or otherwise on the margins of the classroom. Strategies for how to bring such a student back into the fold differ on an individual basis but are always couched in mutual respect and understanding. Frequently, students who may have been struggling the most at the beginning of the term—be it with meeting deadlines, quality of work, or something else—became some of Meghan’s strongest and most self-motivated students by the end of the academic year.
