FRANCIS S.
Francis has a Master’s degree in Applied Math from York University. He is a former instructor for Calculus (MATH 265) at the University of Calgary. Francis has worked with a wide range of students to help them improve their math skills. From learning about fractions in middle school to taking the definite integral in a university calculus course. He views math tutoring as both a profession and a hobby of his.
Francis has a growth mindset and believes that every student can reach their full potential given the right support.
RACHAEL L.
Rachael holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Lethbridge and has spent the past five years teaching a wide range of ages and subjects. She is especially passionate about mathematics and science, and she also brings creativity into her work through her love of fashion and running her own small sewing business.
Her teaching journey has even taken her abroad, as she spent a year in Australia, where she gained valuable experience in a new school system while exploring the country.
Rachael is a dynamic and enthusiastic educator who is committed to providing high-quality, one-on-one support tailored to each student’s needs.
ZAHRA A.
Zahra holds two master’s degrees – one in Pure Mathematics and another in Mathematical Finance from the University of Calgary.
She has extensive teaching and tutoring experience at multiple levels of education. Zahra has three years of experience teaching mathematics at the high school level, where she prepared students for provincial exams while fostering strong problem-solving skills. In addition, she worked for over two years as a teaching assistant at the University of Calgary, supporting courses such as statistics, calculus, linear methods, and differential equations. In this role, she not only assisted professors with instruction but also provided one-on-one support to students and was nominated for the Best Teaching Assistant Award. She also has two years of experience working with students from Grades 1 through 12, helping them strengthen foundational math skills and prepare for advanced concepts.
Zahra’s goal is to help students experience the rewarding feeling of solving challenging problems. She believes that building confidence in mathematics is essential for academic success and also helps students develop lifelong skills such as perseverance, logical thinking, and creativity. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in patience, clarity, and adaptability, ensuring each student’s unique learning needs are met.
ERIN S.
Erin is a passionate educator planning to pursue an after-degree in education in the fall of 2026. She currently holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Conservation Science from the University of Alberta, completed in 2024. She has experience teaching children of all ages in dynamic environments as a gymnastics coach and dance instructor, and also worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Alberta. These experiences have taught her many techniques on how to best tailor her lessons to the needs and capabilites of her students to find what best motivates them to succeed.
Additionally, Erin has experience in various public-serving and supervisory roles. As a result, she displays a high level of leadership, adaptability, and conflict resolution capabilities.
Erin has a strong passion for education (especially STEM education) and as a life-long learner herself, she revels in the opportunity to inspire a passion for learning within others. She prioritizes fostering a safe and accepting learning environment, with a focus on boosting students self-confidence while also increasing their knowledge.
SARAH V.
Sarah brings a decade of experience teaching French Immersion across grades 5–9 and knows what it’s like to learn French in a primarily English-speaking environment—she herself is a former French Immersion student. She earned her Bachelor of Secondary Education from Campus Saint-Jean, a Francophone university, and completed a Master of Education in Second Language Education. She is also a certified DELF A1–B2 examiner. Sarah helps students build confidence, develop strong language skills, and think critically, while making learning engaging and meaningful.
A former Department Head for Languages, Sarah has led initiatives to support language learning and mentor teachers, sharing her expertise in second-language acquisition and designing inclusive, practical curricula. She combines this experience with student-centered strategies that meet learners where they are and help them reach their full potential.
Sarah models lifelong learning in her own life, pursuing Business Management studies and exploring new ways to grow professionally. She believes strongly in the value of education and strives to inspire her students to see learning as both relevant and rewarding.
MARIETTE G.
Mariette has been teaching Math for 20 years. She completed her Bachelor of Education degree in 2000, from McGill University. While attending, Mariette was part of the National Honor Society.
Mariette is very passionate about teaching Math. She shows tremendous compassion with her students. She is understanding, patient, caring, easy to talk to, and will not stop trying, until your child understands the concept at hand.
CAVELL B.
Cavell is a highly experienced educator with over 20 years in teaching, curriculum design, and educational leadership. With a Master’s degree in Curriculum Design, she has dedicated her career to helping children discover their strengths and succeed as lifelong learners.
Her journey in education has taken her across Canada, from classroom teaching to serving as an Education Consultant in the Yukon and an Education Coordinator in Alberta. Most recently, she has stepped into the role of Education Specialist, where she continues to support inclusive, student-centered learning and provide guidance to both educators and school teams.
She is passionate about building meaningful relationships with students and colleagues, and her energy for learning shines through in every interaction. Her expertise in curriculum allows her to support a wide range of academic areas across multiple age groups, from early learners to students in higher grades. At the heart of her work is a commitment to empowering students to see themselves as capable, confident, and successful learners.
KIAYANA B.
Kiayana is a certified teacher in Alberta and holds a Bachelor of Education with minors in Social Studies and History. She has experience teaching Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 6, and has also worked as a Diverse Learning Teacher. Her background includes working as a Preschool Teacher, where she focused on fine motor development, letter formation, and early phonics skills. In addition to her classroom teaching, Kiayana has worked as a Behavioural Aide supporting a student with Autism and ADHD. Through this role, she gained experience in social-emotional learning, functional language development, and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Kiayana is especially passionate about literacy. She has worked as a Reading Instructor for two years and has supported a wide range of learners, including those with complex needs, to build confidence and skills in reading. She is patient, flexible, and committed to fostering a growth mindset. Kiayana values creating fun, engaging learning environments and building meaningful, long-lasting relationships with her students to help them grow both academically and personally.
MOSA A.
Mosa is an MRU Alumni, graduating from Mount Royal University with an English Degree. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Education at St. Mary’s University. He is also the author of two novels, which helps bring a more creative and engaging approach to learning. Mosa is also TEFL certified and has over two years of tutoring experience, helping both children and adults alike to develop their confidence and abilities to excel in their academic skills, most notably around English. Watching a student discover that “Oh” moment fuels his already strong passion for teaching.
Mosa’s teaching philosophy revolves around adapting to each and every student as he understands that what may work for one may not work for the other. He takes the time to know and understand each individual’s learning style so that he may create a supportive and personalized environment. He wants students to become confident and to take ownership of their learning journey.
During his free time, Mosa loves going for long walks, reading fantasy novels, and writing about any creative ideas that come to his mind.
TYLER M.
Tyler graduated from the University of Calgary with a BA in English literature and a certificate in creative writing. She has a passion for reading, extensive experience running and participating in writing workshops and Volunteers at Lord Beaverbrook High School coaching their youth slam poetry team. Tyler struggled with learning disabilities from a young age, and thus did not learn the necessary skills to achieve academic excellence until she reached university. She wishes to impart those skills onto students earlier then she was able to grasp them, so they may flourish in their academic careers.
