EMILY F.

Emily has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Studies and she also holds a Bachelor of Education in intermediate and senior English and History. She also completed a Special Education Part 1 course, which led her to teaching experiences in both senior and elementary Special Education classes.

Emily has also taught English at applied and academic Senior levels. She has been tutoring for over ten years and really enjoys working with students of all all ages – from the early literacy student to the high school essayist.

JORGE S.

Jorge is a student, tutor, and published author. He is studying Computational Applied Mathematics and Philosophy at the University of Calgary and has extensive experience tutoring, particularly in the maths and sciences.

Jorge strives to understand where each student is at and their unique learning curve. He works with his students to formulate a plan for their studies to help them reach their academic goals.

 

AMY C.

Amy is a Bachelor of Education student at Mount Royal University. She previously completed a Bachelors and a Master’s degree in Music Performance, providing her the opportunity to teach in both the classroom and individual studio settings. Amy returned to school to become an elementary school teacher after experiencing the magic of teaching dyslexic children to read. She firmly believes all children are capable of learning with evidence-based instruction, practice, and patience.

In her free time, Amy enjoys reading aloud to her three children, sewing, quilting, and journaling.

 

 

LILY S.

Lily is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Elementary Education. She is bilingual and is completing her minor in French. Lily has experience teaching children swimming lessons, including working with children with special needs in the Swim Abilities program. Lily is passionate about ensuring a fun and positive learning environment for all her students. When she is not at school or teaching, Lily can be found reading, horseback riding, skiing, or relaxing with her friends and family.

 

TRACY L.

Tracy graduated from Mount Royal University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Education and a minor in General Science. Throughout her studies, she gained extensive experience working with children with various backgrounds, learning styles, and needs. Tracy has expertise in whole-group instruction and one-on-one support, both inside and outside the classroom. Passionate about nurturing a growth mindset, she works hard to build students’ confidence and enthusiasm for learning. Her teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in a holistic approach, as she strives to understand each student’s unique needs to craft engaging and personalized learning activities. Tracy also takes great pride in building meaningful, trusting relationships with her students and their families so that they may reach their academic goals.
Outside of teaching and tutoring, Tracy loves traveling, playing basketball/volleyball, eating new foods, and spending quality time with friends and family!

 

MATT D.

Matt has two degrees from the University of Calgary, one in Education and the other in Fine Arts. He has worked as a teacher at the Calgary Catholic School Board, the YMCA, and has worked with artists in residency programs throughout the province. Matt has experience working with all grade levels with a focus on Junior High and High School. He has taught a wide variety of different subjects, and has developed curriculum and programming for youth. His pedagogical philosophy is that creativity and innovation are important skills that are applicable to absolutely any subject from Art, to Math, to Science, and beyond. He enjoys helping students find their passion for learning. Matt’s passions include travel, theatre, and his entrepreneurial endeavours he takes on in his spare time.

MAKENA R.

Makena is currently working on her dual bachelors degree in Inclusive Education and English at the University of Calgary. She is focused on elementary ages but has a range of experience working with any age group. Among her studies in the inclusive realm Makena has experience working with nonprofit organizations that aim to help bridge gaps for immigrant and newcomer children and families.

Makena is passionate about finding alternative ways of learning that can make education fun and build connections beyond the classroom. Outside of tutoring and teaching Makena is passionate about literature and spending time with friends and family.

DJOHRA B .

Djohra is an accomplished academic with a solid foundation in economics and applied statistics, currently pursuing a PhD at the National School of Statistics and Applied Economics in Algiers, Algeria. She holds a Master’s degree in Actuarial Studies in Social Security and another in Quantitative Finance. Additionally, she has an Engineer degree in Statistics in Finance and Actuarial Studies, and a Bachelor’s degree in Planning and Statistics.

Djohra’s expertise spans macroeconomic analysis, financial programming, and advanced statistical methods. Her proficiency with software tools like Microsoft Office, Stata, and Eviews enhances her analytical capabilities. She is multilingual, fluent in French and Arabic.

Professionally, Djohra has a rich teaching background, having served as a Professor of Statistics and Probabilities in Algiers for two years. Her research credentials are equally impressive, with significant contributions as a Research Assistant in the Applied Statistics Laboratory (LASAP) and as a member of the Research Team for University Training Research Projects (PRFU), where she focused on the pension system in Algeria.

Djohra’s commitment to advancing knowledge in her field is evident through her active participation in academic conferences and workshops related to finance, statistics, and economics. Her diverse skill set and academic achievements make her a valuable asset to the academic community.

CHRISTINE M.

Christine has a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and works as a Research Scientist at the University of Calgary. She has interdisciplinary work experience in science, engineering, pharmaceutical and IT industries. She is a problem solver and helps graduate students solve various experimental, theoretical, technical and academic problems in their research.

Currently she works on research projects that turn seafood waste into biocompatible precursors for heavy metal adsorption and CO2 capture, devoting efforts to solving ultimate real-world problems of environment pollution and global warming.

She likes to read lots of books in her free time and enjoys self-learning the newest AI technologies. She is passionate about the rapid development of modern technologies.

KEVIN D.

Kevin is a classroom teacher who has two bachelor’s degrees in Education and Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary. During the school year Kevin teaches a Grade 3/4 class with the Calgary Board of Education. In the classroom Kevin has experience working with diverse school communities, unique student learning needs and uses a student-centric approach to instruction. Kevin has 10 years of tutoring experience and has tutored math and sciences for a wide range of grade levels. Through these experiences Kevin has continued to grow and adapt his teaching practice to better fit the needs of his students. In his spare time Kevin enjoys the outdoors, sports and trying new restaurants.
