SANDY A.

Sandy was born in Venezuela. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a double major in Education and Physical Education and a minor in Spanish. After completing her degrees, Sandy began her teaching career teaching Spanish to students from grade 5 to 12. In 2006, Sandy completed a master’s degree in Spanish Language and Culture at the University of Granada in Spain. Teaching Spanish to children and adults is a passion that Sandy has successfully pursued for more than 17 years. Sandy believes that learning another language allows students to not only communicate but to also become active and participatory global citizens. Learning a second or a third language and their respective cultures allow students to see the world and other point of views through a critical, caring and compassionate lens.

JAE J.

Jae is working on concurrent degrees majoring in Education and Mathematics. She has a vast array of experience with students of all ages from Kindergarten to High School. She has worked with younger students through her volunteer work and in high school through after-school programs, tutoring and summer camps. Currently, Jae works with students ages 2-6 every Sunday through her church’s Sunday School program and tutors high school math students on the side. Jae has also completed the International Baccalaureate, where she studied higher level Mathematics, English, and Economics. Jae’s passion is helping her students feel confident in their learning and in themselves.

LEISHA D.

Leisha is in her third year of the Education degree while simultaneously completing a Psychology minor at the University of Calgary. Her teaching experience ranges from being a teaching assistant in preschools to currently being an online K-12 tutor with the Werklund School of Education. Her specialisation includes Math, Science, and English Language Arts at the K-6 level.

Her major combined with her tutoring experience has given her a strong foundation of the Alberta Curriculum and the confidence to teach it. Additionally, she has gained a deeper understanding of working with online teaching platforms and Zoom, which complements her teaching as an online tutor. Utilising a student-centered teaching approach is a crucial lesson she has learned from her degree, and it is something she ensures to incorporate into her teaching.

She believes teaching is a privilege where one gets the opportunity to guide, support, and help students succeed through their educational experiences. Here, she intends to create a student-centered learning space where she can help students thrive in their journeys.

YVONNE S.

Yvonne received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary, specializing in Elementary Mathematics. She has been a classroom teacher for almost a decade, working in both public and private schools. Yvonne has taught all core subjects in elementary and middle school grades. Her personal interests include art and cooking.

MADDIE E.

Maddie is working toward her Bachelor of Education with a minor of mathematics. She has experience working in classrooms, observing lessons, teaching small lesson plans, and helping students one-on-one. In addition to all elementary subjects, Maddie specializes in intermediate math, another of her passions. Maddie has worked with children of all ages volunteering with a variety of children’s programs from science to reading to art.

ANTONIA A.

Antonia is working toward her Bachelor of Education Degree at Mount Royal University. Antonia has previous experience in tutoring and teaching within a classroom with a range of students and subjects. Antonia aims to infuse fun and enthusiasm into her lessons so that her students learn not only the subjects at hand but also the love of learning.

NIKKI J.

Nikki is currently in her second year at Mount Royal University pursuing a Bachelor of Education Degree. She is a competitive figure skater and skating coach. Additionally, she has extensive experience with one on one tutoring particularly with math and reading support for a variety of ages. Nikki loves musical theatre and also is a summer camp instructor with Chinook School of Music. She has a passion for teaching, helping others, and loves kids.

OLIVIA B-H.

Olivia is currently in her second year of the Bachelor of Education program at Mount Royal University with a double minor in English and Indigenous Studies. So far in her degree Olivia has done fieldwork in Cochrane and is currently at Westmount Charter Elementary in Calgary.

When she is not in school or tutoring, Olivia spends her time teaching children’s dance classes! She has a passion for working with children, and enjoys helping them work to achieve their goals, whatever they may be.

YIMAN Y.

Yiman has a Bachelor Degrees in Education and Mathematics. She is a dynamic educator with experience in both Canadian and international school settings. She strives to help students realize their potential through goal setting and understanding students’ passions. Whether tutoring young children or at the high school level, Yiman aims to support students in understanding why academics are important and how it will help them in life and school.

VIVIAN O.

Vivian graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor’s in Education and holds an Alberta Teaching Certificate.

Vivian’s passion for education has driven her to take on many roles. As a pre-service teacher, she provided support to children in various learning environments such as in schools, at a community center and online via Zoom. During this time, she primarily worked with children who spoke English as a second language. Once she became a certified teacher, she had the opportunity to run her own classroom, teaching pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children full-time.

Vivian is currently working in early intervention as an Education Coordinator, providing support to pre-school aged children with special education coding. When she is not working with the little ones, she is a substitute teacher with the public-school division where she enjoys teaching all subjects to all elementary levels.
