DANIELA H-D.
Daniela is completing her two-year after degree in Education with a specialization in French at the University of Calgary. Prior to starting her second degree, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a minor in French. During her fall semester at the University, she had the opportunity to travel abroad to volunteer as an English teacher in Goiania, Brazil. Upon returning, she completed her third practicum in a French Immersion junior high, teaching Social Studies and French.
In addition, she has years of previous tutoring experience, including small group and individual tutoring to meet students’ unique needs. She is determined to get to know each student’s areas of growth and opportunities for learning and to tailor her approach when learning on a one-on-one basis.
NIRKAMAL S.
Nirkamal earned a Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering in 2022 and has since developed a strong passion for teaching mathematics and physics. With two years of experience tutoring Math 30-1 at the YMCA, he has honed his ability to engage students in complex topics and to foster a love for learning. Nirkamal’s engineering background and familiarity with the Alberta curriculum allow him to teach all grades of math and physics, as well as calculus.
Nirkamal is committed to inspiring curiosity and critical thinking among his students. He is determined to make a meaningful impact on his students’ academic journeys, equipping them with the skills and understanding to achieve their goals.
SAVANAH B.
Savanah is a certified teacher with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) from the University of British Columbia. With a passion for stories and what they can teach us about ourselves and the world, she specializes in teaching English, Social Studies, and other humanities subjects. Currently, Savanah works as a substitute teacher for grades 4-12 in the West Kootenays.
Savanah’s teaching philosophy emphasizes fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a sense of belonging in all learners. She is passionate about helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed academically and beyond. Recognizing that every individual learns and shows knowledge in different ways, she prioritizes identifying how her students learn best and building plans that will help each student succeed. She enjoys finding ways to connect learning to her students’ interests, bringing in more opportunity for student voice and choice.
Savanah has received several academic awards, including the Bill Davison Memorial Prize for Literacy Education, recognizing her academic excellence and commitment to teaching literacy. Beyond the classroom, her background in coaching basketball and facilitating outdoor education activities strengthens her ability to connect with students and promote well-rounded personal growth. She enjoys spending both active and slow time in nature, creating art, reading, and gardening.
JAMIE M.
Jamie has a Bachelor of Education Degree from Acadia University and has been teaching for 22 years. His passion and expertise is in teaching English and Social Studies from Grade 7 to 12. Jamie has experience teaching all subjects at the junior high level including Math and Science.
Jamie is competent with D2L, Google Classroom and numerous software applications that students are currently using for their courses.
Jamie has a strong work ethic and understands the learning challenges that students are currently facing. He strives to teach good study habits, organizational skills and a clear understanding of what it takes to be a successful student.
Jamie earned the Above and Beyond award from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools for showing drive, passion and perseverance as he lead his students towards academic success.
Jamie believes that tutoring is so much more than simply helping a student improve their grade. It is about building meaningful, transformative relationships. To provide students with the skills they require to be a successful life long learner.
NICK M.
With over 12 years of experience in both private and public educational settings, Nick is a creative and engaging tutor known for making learning fun and motivating. As a college instructor and former elementary teacher, Nick has taught a broad range of subjects, including science, math, English, social studies, and college-level courses. He uses games, positive reinforcement, and foundational support to inspire intrinsic motivation and build character in students. By fostering a supportive environment, Nick helps learners develop confidence and achieve lasting academic results.
EMILY F.
Emily has an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Studies and she also holds a Bachelor of Education in intermediate and senior English and History. She also completed a Special Education Part 1 course, which led her to teaching experiences in both senior and elementary Special Education classes.
Emily has also taught English at applied and academic Senior levels. She has been tutoring for over ten years and really enjoys working with students of all all ages – from the early literacy student to the high school essayist.
JORGE S.
Jorge is a student, tutor, and published author. He is studying Computational Applied Mathematics and Philosophy at the University of Calgary and has extensive experience tutoring, particularly in the maths and sciences.
Jorge strives to understand where each student is at and their unique learning curve. He works with his students to formulate a plan for their studies to help them reach their academic goals.
LILY S.
Lily is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Elementary Education. She is bilingual and is completing her minor in French. Lily has experience teaching children swimming lessons, including working with children with special needs in the Swim Abilities program. Lily is passionate about ensuring a fun and positive learning environment for all her students. When she is not at school or teaching, Lily can be found reading, horseback riding, skiing, or relaxing with her friends and family.
MATT D.
Matt has two degrees from the University of Calgary, one in Education and the other in Fine Arts. He has worked as a teacher at the Calgary Catholic School Board, the YMCA, and has worked with artists in residency programs throughout the province. Matt has experience working with all grade levels with a focus on Junior High and High School. He has taught a wide variety of different subjects, and has developed curriculum and programming for youth. His pedagogical philosophy is that creativity and innovation are important skills that are applicable to absolutely any subject from Art, to Math, to Science, and beyond. He enjoys helping students find their passion for learning. Matt’s passions include travel, theatre, and his entrepreneurial endeavours he takes on in his spare time.
MAKENA R.
Makena is currently working on her dual bachelors degree in Inclusive Education and English at the University of Calgary. She is focused on elementary ages but has a range of experience working with any age group. Among her studies in the inclusive realm Makena has experience working with nonprofit organizations that aim to help bridge gaps for immigrant and newcomer children and families.
Makena is passionate about finding alternative ways of learning that can make education fun and build connections beyond the classroom. Outside of tutoring and teaching Makena is passionate about literature and spending time with friends and family.
